Mr. Gene Garfield Barnard, 80, of Hurricane Ridge Road, Meadows
of Dan, Va. passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 at Forsyth Medical
Center. He was born in Patrick County on March 5, 1927 to the late Guy
Garfield and Bertha Stanley Barnard. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Puckett Barnard. He had been the
owner/operator of Hurricane Ridge Dairy Farm, had served in the United
States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Grover King VFW
Post #1115. Mr. Barnard is survived by three daughters, Deborah Jean
Barnard DeHart and husband, Danny, of Patrick Springs, Dorothy Lelia
Barnard Dalton and husband, Robert Curtis, of Meadows of Dan and Judy
Lynn Barnard of Meadows of Dan; two sons, Lesley David Barnard and wife,
Laura, of Meadows of Dan and Gary Jehu Barnard and wife, Helen, of
Stuart; ten grandchildren, Susan Parks and husband, Ben, James Barnard,
Alicia Theriault and husband, Patrick, Justin DeHart, David Barnard, Dawn
Barnard, Benjamin G. Harris and wife, Rachael, Angela Harris, Michaela
Barnard-Wester and Shylah Barnard-Wester; two great-grandchildren, Nathan
Parks and Thomas Smith; and special care givers, Tina Puckett, Candy
Galliana, Mary Lynn Massey and Anita Coleman. Funeral services for Mr.
Barnard will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Moody
Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Lowell Willis officiating. Burial
will follow in the Barnard Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan with
military rites by the Grover King Post 1115 Honor Guard. The family will
receive friends on Wednesday evening, October 17, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m.
at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Flowers will be accepted or memorials
may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vesta, Va. 24177 or
to the Grover King VFW Post #1115, P.O. Box 1952, Hillsville, Va. 24343.

Nellie P. Barnard, 80, of Meadows of Dan, died Friday, Sept. 21,
2007, at the home.
She was born in Patrick County on Oct. 8, 1926, to Samuel
"Sambo" Puckett and Dora Lee Cockran Puckett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister,
Myrtle Boyd; and one brother, Charlie Puckett.
She was co-owner of Hurricane Ridge Dairy.
Surviving are her husband, Gene Garfield Barnard; three daughters,
Deborah Jean Barnard DeHart of Patrick Springs, and Dorothy Lelia Barnard
Dalton and Judy Lynn Barnard, both of Meadows of Dan; two sons, Lesley
David Barnard of Meadows of Dan and Gary Jehu Barnard of Stuart; two
brothers, Otis Puckett of Meadows of Dan and Leonard Puckett of
Chesterfield; one sister, Thelma Puckett Lewis of Martinsville; several
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Moody Funeral Home Chapel,
Stuart, with the Rev. Lowell Willis officiating. Burial will be in the
Barnard family cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Memorials may be sent to Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vesta, Va.
24177, or sent to Alzheimer's Association, Patrick County Chapter, c/o
Sally Smith, 2448 South Mayo Drive, Stuart, Va. 24171.

Isham Juston Barnard, age 99, passed away Friday, August 7, 1992
at the Blue Ridge Highlands Nursing Home, Galax. He was a World War I
veteran, also a past VFW Post Commander and past VFW District Commander.
He was born in Patrick County, February 18, 1893, a son of the late Jehu
Barnard and Virginia Oreander Barnard. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Nettie Susan Barnard. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law,
Madeleine and Joel McAlexander, Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law,
Leonard and Carole Barnard, Laurinburg, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Lois Harris,
Meadows of Dan; two granddaughters, three great-grandchildren. Funeral
service will be Monday, August 10, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville with the Dr. William Gunter
and Elder Carbon Vass officiating with interment in the Barnard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the
Hillsville VFW Post #1115.

father died of TB when Norman was just a babe. He was raised by Mary &
her 2nd husband Richard Barnard Marshall and assumed the
Marshall surname.
Norman J. Marshall, 84, of Terry's
Mill Road, Meadows of Dan, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Heritage Hall
Nursing Home in Laurel Meadows.
He was born in Franklin County on Oct. 14, 1920, to Richard and Mary
Marshall.
He attended the College of William and Mary. He served in the Army and
taught at Hillsville High School. He attended Reed Island Springs Baptist
Church.
Survivors include cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Moody Funeral Home chapel in
Stuart with the Rev. Nathan Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in the
Barnard family cemetery with military honors by the Patrick County Veterans
Memorial Honor Guard.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
