AKERS, WILLIAM H., JR. "BILL", age 77, of Elliston passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

A long time devoted employee of Big Spring Mill, Elliston. The son of the late William H. Sr. and Lula P. Akers he was also preceded in death by a son, Howard Taylor and a brother, Marvin "Ache" Akers and a nephew, Buddy Jones.

Very loved by everyone, he is survived by his fiancé, Christine R. Taylor; daughters, Darlene Peoples, Marilyn R. Taylor; grandchildren, Machelle Taylor, Karen Dooley, Jeremy Akers, Kathy Jarrell, Chris Jarrell and Oscar Jarrell; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beulah Akers; an uncle Fred Pelton, an aunt, Milda Pelton and several nieces & nephews.

The family would like to extend to friends and family a very special thank you. He will be truly missed and will always be in our hearts.
The body will be placed in the Elliston Church of God Tuesday, where the family will receive friends from 5 until 8 Tuesday evening. Cassandra A. Alderman (Sandy), 44, of Christiansburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Sandy was employed by Blacksburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff Department. She was a member of Faith Christian Church of Christ. Her true love of her life was her two sons.

Sandy is survived by her two sons, Jacob W. Hutchison and Andrew G. Hutchison; parents, Wayne and Phyllis Alderman; sister, Kimberly A.

Buzzard and husband Owen Q. Buzzard; niece, Constance M. Buzzard; nephew, Jesse O. Buzzard; Jacob and Andrew's godmother, Michelle

Linkous; and close friend, Shirley Bower.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on

She was the loving mother to Donna Brown, Boones Mill; Sharon Huffman and husband, Tony, Elliston, Janice Loving, and Linda Dull and husband, Roger all of Shawsville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; also, many special nieces and nephew.

Claude Washington Baker was born in 1877 to George Washington Baker and Mary Frances Simpkins. In 1880 at age two he resided in Central Depot (now known as Radford) which is next to the New River on the Montgomery County side.

In January 1899 he married Rebecca Ellen Graham, the daughter of James Madison Graham (buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Shawsville, a few miles east of Den Hill Cemetery) and Charlotte C. Lane (buried in Den Hill Cemetery).

Claude worked early in life as a farm laborer, and by 1910 he and Rebecca had purchased property and built the house where they would raise their nine children. This residence still stands and is located in the Den Creek Valley about a mile west of the Cemetery on Den Hill Road.

In 1929 his son Willie was murdered in a knife fight at age 16 at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church across from the Cemetery. Claude returned to farming his land until his death at age 91 at the Radford Community Hospital.

Claude's sister Ada May married his wife Rebecca Graham's brother, Archie Walter Graham.

No photo attached to this memorial so I can’t be sure, but the dates given match EXACTLY with those for Roxie E. (Walters) Baker ID 10844512, on same stone as her husband Raynard Hamilton Baker. As a Raymond Baker has not been noted on any of the previous surveys done of this cemetery, I’m thinkin’ they may be one & the same. Your thoughts?

He was born on March 28, 1952, to the late Harvey Lee and Virginia Epperly Bland.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Collins Bland; brothers, Fred Bland, Edward Bland; sisters, Linda Barker, Barbara Spradlin.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina East, Trish Bland; grandchildren, Ethan Slusser, Breanna East; brother, Phillip Bland; special niece, Elicia Bland; aunt, Louise McGuire; cousin, Fran Cecil.

Special Thanks to the Medical Care Unit at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center for their care and compassion during Mr. Bland’s illness, especially Christin Smith.

Virginia Epperly Bland, 77, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born on August 1 7, 1920, to the late Grover and Annie Jones Epperly, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Bland.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara B. Edmonds of Christiansburg and Linda B. Barker of Blacksburg; four sons, Freddie Lee Bland, Allen Bland, both of Christiansburg, H. Edward Bland of Blacksburg, and Phillip Bland of Newport News; three sisters, Margaret Smith of Richmond, Frances Mills of Roanoke, and Louise Hearse of Dublin; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dusty Etter officiating. Interment will follow in the Denhill Cemetery, Shawsville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Maggie Graham; husband, George H Brumfield; son, Jeffrey Lee Brumfield; brother, Frank A Graham Sr. and wife, Kathleen Oakley Graham, of Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Graham of Salem; and an uncle and his wife, William and Lucille Brumfield of Roanoke.

Survivors include her son, George Michael Brumfield; daughters, Beverly Ann Newman, and Theresa Lynn Esquivel (Carlos); grandchildren, Tracy Marie Newman, Matthew, and Graham Brumfield; brother, Kenneth E. Graham Sr. of Salem; and sister, Phyllis Ann Alderman of Christiansburg.

Her children consider one of their greatest gifts in life was having her as their mother.

Pleasant, N.C.; three daughters, Geneva Wells, Shawsville, Wilma Simmons, Pulaski, Carroll Bean, Christiansburg; two sisters, Rena Tolley, Christiansburg, Lucille Dalton, Galax; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Shepherd and the Rev. Leon Alley. Burial will be in the Den Hill Cemetery. Roxie Ellen Lane Davis, 100, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012, at Richfield Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Edward Davis.

She is survived by her daughter, Mammie Hall and husband, Elmer; son, Gary M. Davis and Becky Schmidt; two grandsons, Daniel and David Hall; a sister-in-law, Opal Davis; countless nieces and nephews; special friends, Margaret Woolwine and Betty Alley; and many other special
friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Richfield Recovery & Care Center for their care of Roxie.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. Clarence Roscoe Dove, 90, of Shawsville, died Friday, January 11, 2002. He was predeceased by two children, Mary Alice Woolwine and Clifford Roscoe Dove.

Mr. Dove was a retired carpenter. He attended Ellett Pentecostal Holiness Church and served the Lord for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louvenia.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who leaves daughter, Freda Epperly (Kenneth); four grandchildren, Robin Bane (Les), Leslie Epperly (Brenda), Jewel Sowder (Rodney), Jennifer Epperly; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Alley.

The funeral will be at the Ellett Pentecostal Holiness Church on Wednesday, January 16 at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Steve Akers, Willie Yates and Frankie Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Grant E. Bryant Funeral Home, Elliston, Va.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Dove; a daughter, Mary Woolwine; a son, Clifford Dove; a great- granddaughter, Mckensie Sowder; five brothers and two sisters.

She attended Ellett Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Kenneth Epperly, of Shawsville; sister, Irene Grubb, of Blacksburg; four grandchildren, Robin Bane and husband, Les, Leslie Epperly and wife, Brenda, Jewel Sowder and husband, Rodney, Jennifer Cook and husband, Ronnie; seven great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Ellett Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Steve Akers, the Rev. Frankie Graham, and the Rev. Wallace Yopp officiating. Interment will follow in the Den Hill Cemetery. Harley Q. (Butch) Dove Jr., 55, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 15, 2011, at his home in Fairlawn.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmit and Stella Dove, Fred Williams, and Carolyn Ford; and aunts, Frances Williams and Betty Hinkle.
Surviving are parents, Harley Q. (Pete) Dove and Alene Dove; Harley's longtime girlfriend, Joyce Brown and her children, Sandy and Larry Woolridge, of Tennessee, Angie and Ron Brun, of Pulaski, Kimberly and Mike Breeden, of Salem; her grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Chad Woolridge, of Tennessee, Heather Warden, of Pulaski, and Terrell Brugh, of Salem; uncles and aunts, Fred Williams, of Christiansburg, Douglas and Katherine DeHart and Betty Joe Davidson, all of Salem; and several cousins. Harley loved all children and grandchildren as his own.

Harley Quentin (Pete) Dove, Sr., age 87, of Christiansburg died Sunday, February 11, 2018, at his home. He was born in Alleghany County, VA on May 15, 1930 to the late Emmett E. and Stella McNeil Dove.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Harley Quentin (Butch) Dove, Jr., sister and brother-in-law, Betty and James Hinkle; sister-in-law, Frances Williams. Pete was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Pete retired from Appalachian Power after 42 years. He attended Cambria Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alene W. Dove; adopted daughter, Joyce Brown; adopted grandchildren, Sandra Woolridge, Angela and Ron Brun, Kimberly Brugh; adopted great-grandchildren, Heather and Jamie Martin, Terrell Brugh, Chad Woolridge; five adopted great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Katherine and Douglas DeHart, Betty Joe Davidson; brother-in-law, Fred Williams, Jr.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cambria Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Crowgey

Surry - Blanche Lee Collins Dove, 99, entered into eternal peace, Saturday, June 24, 2017, in her daughter's home. Born in Giles Co., VA, November 16, 1917, Blanche was the daughter of the late Creed and Elizabeth Linkous Collins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Dove, and her son, Donald, and 16 siblings.
She her daughter, Frances "Fran" Stanfield and her husband, Stan; grandchildren, Sherry Adkins (Ronnie), Douglas Bennett (Diane), and Rodney Bennett, ; great-grandchildren, Desiree Craghead (Matt) , Nathan Adkins, Destiny L. Whitley (Russ), Lauren Collier (Adam), Danielle and Ashley Bennett; and great-great-grandchildren, Gabbie Wright and Eliza Collier; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
Blanche will be remembered for her kind heart, always taking care of others, even cooking and cleaning for those younger than her. She loved her family and her church family, volunteering often in her church community. She was an avid gardener and was awarded "yard of the month" on several occasions. Blanche was an enthusiastic wrestling fan and was even able to attend a wrestling match at the age of 89.
Family and friends will gather 6-8pm, Monday, June 26, 2017 in Colonial Funeral Home for visitation. A service celebrating Blanche's life will be held 11 am, Tuesday, June 27, in Community Baptist Church, 270 Old Burroughs Rd., Elberon, with Rev. Cashman officiating. Blanche's body will be taken to Den Hill Cemetery, 2264 Leather Road, Christiansburg, for a 2 pm graveside funeral service on Wednesday. She was also a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Southern Baptist Missionaries. She was employed at American Viscoes, Roanoke, Rose's Department Store, Christiansburg, and Andrew Lewis High School, Salem.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene H. East; sister, Ethel I. West; brothers, Forrest B. Sutphin and Joe C. Sutphin.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Judy East, Salem; daughter, Carolyn East Caldwell, Albany, Ga.; grandchildren, Robin Driver, Leesburg, Ga., Melody Caldwell, Fort Meade, Md., Candace Caldwell, Albany, Ga., Myracle Caldwell, Albany, Ga., Eric E. Paul is survived by his wife of 41 years, Frances; daughters, Ruth Carroll and her husband, Brian, and Teresa Gardner; two grandchildren, Jessee Gardner and Laura Carroll; sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Jim Bennett; nieces, Lisa and Diane; brothers-in-law, Wayne Quesenberry and wife Reda, and Frank Quesenberry; special cousin, Howard Gardner; as well as other extended family and friends.

He was born in Roanoke, VA to the late Ottie Wilbur and Glenie (Sutphin) Graham. Stanley worked in maintenance at Fort Meade, retiring June 5, 1992 after 30 years of service. He and his beloved and devoted wife, Rose Marie, celebrated 50 years of marriage in August 2016. Stanley was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. He was active in ten pin bowling leagues until last August. He also enjoyed playing pool. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chandler Graham; and Betty Evans (Glenie and Ramona's mother).
Stanley is survived by his beloved spouse, Rose (a lifelong resident of Severn); loving daughters, Ramona Graham Johnson and her husband, Harry Johnson Sr. of Severn and Glenie Mathues of DE; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Lurah Hess of Freedom, ME, Deborah Harbaugh of Lincolnville, ME and Kimberly Howells of Mechanicsburg, PA; and devoted cousins, Allen and Sheena Daniels of New Windsor, MD.

Rose loved children and was cherished by her grandnieces, Addy Rose, Maggie, Clara, Samantha, Tilly, Josie and Meredith; step-grandchildren, Harry, Jr. and Jeremy; and step-great grandchildren, Emma, Harry, Audrey and Jeremy; the children of her cousins, Stephanie, Heather, and Amber Rose; and the grandson of her cousins, Will. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kathleen Oakley Graham of Christiansburg; three children and their spouses, Thomas A. and Donna Graham of Elliston, Karen G. Alls of Christiansburg, and Frank A., Jr. and Carolyn Graham of Christiansburg; two sisters, Lois G. Brumfield of Richmond and Phyllis G. Wilma spent twenty years working as a supervisor in the shipping and handling department of the Home Shopping Network. She was an avid bowler and was named as one of Roanoke's top five bowlers on multiple occasions. She loved southern gospel music and enjoyed spending time with her family members  and friends as often as she could.

Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Alma Sower; four brothers, Elvin, Arlow, Don, and Curtis Sowers; as well as a sister, Oveeta Markle.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Kenneth Graham Sr.; children, Kenneth Graham Jr. (Penny), and Danny Graham; grandchildren Heather Howell, and Daniel Graham; great-grandchildren, Maggie, and Raelynn Howell.

He is survived by one daughter, Catherine H. Williams; one brother, Leo Luther Harris, Hollins; four sisters, Cleo H. Near, Mary L. Harris,

Dorothy H. Guilliams, Juanita H. Fox; also surviving are three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at Den Hill, Christiansburg, VA with Rev. Sammy Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

She was born January 20, 1923 in Franklin County to the late Flemon and Martha Turner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Newton Harris, seven brothers and sisters.

She retired after twenty-three years of service with Montgomery Furniture.

She is survived by her children, Raymond Winfred and Joyce Harris of Christiansburg, Curtis Preston Harris of Radford, and Marie and Steve Howard of Christiansburg.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Teresa and Mark Patrick of Christiansburg, Curtis and Teresa Harris of Giles County, Randy and Roberta Harris of Montgomery County, John P. and Angie Harris of Floyd, and Angie and Shane Robins of Roanoke; one brother, George Turner of Bassett; and ten great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Don Peters officiating. Terry “Joe” HatcherTerry "Joe" Hatcher, 73, of Lafayette, Va., passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010.

He was born in Dunns, W.Va. on April 25, 1937, to the late Beatrice and Esther Conner Hatcher.

He was also a veteran having served in the United States Air Force.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Terrel Hatcher.

His surviving family includes his wife  of 46 years, Bettie Hatcher, of Lafayette; daughters, Glenda Williams, of Elliston, and Darlene Flournoy, of Christiansburg; son, Steven Hatcher, of Christiansburg; sister, Pauline Hatcher, of Christiansburg; brothers, Tracy Hatcher and wife, Ida, of Princeton,W.Va., and James Hatcher and wife, Diane, of Christiansburg; granddaughters, Brittany Cochran, Samantha Cochran, Katelyn Cochran and Madison Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special thanks to Lewis-Gale Medical Center's 6 West staff for their great care.

Periods of visitation will be held on both Sunday and Monday evenings, May 16, 2010 and May 17, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lafayette United Methodist Church at 5310 Walthall Street in Lafayette. She was born May 14, 1930, to Edgar O. Graham and Mary Elizabeth Dove Graham, grew up in the Den Hill community of Montgomery County, and was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Hollandsworth Sr.; and brothers, Richard Graham of Christiansburg and Lloyd Graham of Salem.

Surviving to honor her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathie Hollandsworth of Christiansburg; granddaughter, Sidney

Hollandsworth of Blacksburg; grandson, Forrest Hollandsworth of Christiansburg; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lane and Michael Davis; and great-grandson, Alexander Davis, all of Weyers Cave; brother, James Graham of Shawsville; and many relatives and friends; notably special traveling companion, Frances Poff; and caring neighbors, Luther and Willie Mae Spencer.

Lindsey Graham Ibrahim, 42 of Shawsville went to be with the lord on Sunday September 8, 2019 after fighting a long battle of breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Marvin Nile Graham Sr. and Evelyn Smith Graham, Joseph Lee Worrell and Reba Ellen Worrell, Sister Tracy Graham and nephew Steven Robertson.
She is survived by her husband, Emad Ibrahim; mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and two sister’s-in-law residing in Egypt. Her daughter Afton Marie Graham and boyfriend Chris Hale, son Zane Emad Ibrahim and grandson Mason Harrison Hale. She is also survived by her parents Marvin Nile Graham JR and Rebecca Ann Graham; siblings Marvin “Bucky” Graham (Robin), Michele Shrader (Ken), Lisa Church (Tracy), Leslie Robertson, Sarah Graham (Wayne Hartman), Kelly Atkinson (Josh) and Zach Graham (Whitney). She had numerous nieces and nephews ranging from ages 1 to 32 years old.
Lindsey was a loving wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister and aunt who never gave up through her battle with cancer. She fought till the end with a smile on her face always putting others before herself. She had a heart of gold and enjoyed watching her children play sports over the years and spending time with her grandson. She spent much of her life as a home health caregiver and owner/operator of multiple businesses with her husband. Lindsey will be remembered by her love for others and amazing strength. She was an inspiration to many and will be missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home from 12 -2 Friday September 13, 2019. The memorial service will begin at 2 pm in the Chapel and graveside services will follow at Den Hill Cemetery. Earl was born on December 25, 1929 in Floyd County to the late Michael C. and Lilly King.

He was a veteran who served his country during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lebron Carr Winks, Dormal Vest, Lena Wright, Georgia Hix, and Hilda Flinchum.

He has two surviving siblings, Emma L. King and Lawton B. King, both of Vinton, Va. Also surviving are his loving children, Barry W. King and special friend, Samantha of Shawsville; Teresa Jones and husband, Bruce of Christiansburg; Cynthia Piskadlo and husband, Edward of Sterling, Va.; and B. J. King and wife, Amanda of Check, Va.

He was "Pappaw" to ten grandchildren, Jessica Hubbard and husband, Frank, Danielle Hawks, Ashley and Amber King, Christina, Courtney, Suzanne and Sara Jones, Morgan and Michael Piskadlo; five precious great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jacob and Logan King; and Kaylee and MacKencie Hubbard.

Phillip Gerald Lester, 62, of Riner, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lester. Survivors include his mother, Ruby Lester of Riner; and his sister, Angela Harvey of Riner. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buford Linkous officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the family to help with funeral expenses. The Lester Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, 382-2612. David Lee LuckadoDavid Lee Luckado, 56, of Pulaski, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. David was born on August 19, 1955, in Christiansburg, to Beulah and Henry Luckado. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jerry Luckado; and one brother, Donald Luckado.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Carol J. Luckado, of Pulaski; two sons, David D.B. Luckado, of Georgia, and Darrell Hogston (Kim), of Hiwassee; three daughters, Lorah Ellison (Roy), of Christiansburg, Delores Gillenwater (Ronald) and Theresa Hogston (Brian), of Pulaski; one brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Barbara Luckado, of Radford; two sisters, Dorothy Cumbee, of Pulaski, and Susie Foster, of Christiansburg; 14 grandchildren, Amber, Megan, Kayla, Derek, Austin, Ryan, Shelby, Abby, Heather, Ashley, Gary, Brandon, Amanda and Destiny; five great-grandchildren, Alisha, Noah, Logan, Kylie and Mason; plus aunts, uncles and several nieces and nephews.
David worked for 25 years at Marshall/Chandler Concrete. He was an avid football fan, especially the Cowboys. He loved riding his motorcycle, spending time outdoors and being with his family. His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Goldschmidt and the entire staff of the Blue Ridge Cancer Center; the doctors and staff at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital; the staff at the Food City Pharmacy for always going the extra mile; to Pastor Tim and Amanda West and the entire church family at the New Life Church of the Nazarene for all their help; Pastor James Walker for all his prayers; Robin at Medi-Home Health and all their family and friends for all they've done, whether it was a prayer or a kind word, it was all deeply appreciated.
"Pops, we love you, we will always miss you, but it brings us solace to know you are now in a better place and no longer suffering. We thank God for having you in our life as long as we did."
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home.
