Thomas
Allen Connoley Sr. (Tom) of Floyd, formerly of Lindside, WV, passed away
September 25th, 2022, surrounded by the love of his two best girls. He was
born on August 5th, 1936 to William B and Mary Ellen Connoley. He was
preceded in death by both parents, two brothers Donald and William B
Connoley II, one sister and brother in law Doris and Richard Fruth, and
numerous furry companions.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 48 years C. Jeanne
Connoley, his daughter Kelly Connoley-Phillips and her husband E. Kelley,
three grandchildren: Kayla Reed (Dwight), Nathan Phillips (Adella Boone),
his namesake Luke Thomas Phillips, and three beautiful great grandchildren,
all of Floyd.
An eight-year veteran of The United States Airforce, Tom was always a
patriot and loved his country deeply. Both he and all the dogs would run
for the front porch every time a fighter jet would pass over. He was also a
member of The American Legion. As an avid outdoorsman, you could usually
find him enjoying nature and he was an expert marksman with both rifle and
recurve bow, and he cultivated numerous skills as an Eagle Scout. He served
as a longtime member of and then President of the Lindside Volunteer Fire
Department for several years and loved serving his community. Family and
dear friends meant everything to him, with countless people over the years
adopting the name "Daddy Tom".
The family wishes to specially thank their many dear friends at Mountain
View United Methodist Church in Meadows of Dan, Randall and Sandy Harmon,
the members of the Floyd Mystical Witches for bringing meals and smiles,
Tracy Turpin, Jamie Wickline, Richard and Marcy Miller and countless others
who prayed them through this journey.
Funeral Services will be Friday September 30, 2022 at 11AM at Gardner
Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Martin Officiating. interment will follow in
Duncans Chapel Cemetery.

She was born July 3, 1953, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to the late Eugene
Kelly Phillips, and Margie Stutler Phillips who survives.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah
Guilliams; son, Tony Stutler; and three brothers, Tommy, Roger, and Paul
Phillips.
Virginia is survived by her mother; her husband, Garland Conner; daughters,
Lynne Fox (Sam) and Karen Conner; son, David Morris (Chasity); brothers,
Eugene, Walter, and Joseph Phillips; grandchildren, Ashley Rowland
(Jessie), Heather Perdue (Josh), Cy Guilliams, Daniel Morris, and Brayden
Via; and great-grandchildren, Madison Rowland, Brennen Fox, Autumn Preeman,
Wesley Catron and Aalyah Perdue.
The service will be Monday, July 19, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Duncan Chapel
Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will

Q. Holstein 84 of Canton, Ohio and more recently of Lakeland, Fla., passed
away Jan. 30, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center following a sudden
illness. He was born April 6, 1925 in West Virginia. He was in the Third
Armored Division of the US Army and was wounded serving his country in
World War II. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and
Trinity Gospel Temple.
Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Avis Ilene Holstein in 2007 and
son Marshall S. Carroll in 2005. Survived by daughter Marlene (Wayne) Lowe,
son, John L. Holstein of Canton, son Dawson (Elaine) Crews of Roanoke, Va.,
son Wayne Holstein of Savannah, Ga., and granddaughter Melody Dyer of
Canton; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews
and numerous friends.
Special thanks to Thannah and Harry Redford for their love and
support."Dad"and "Papa" will be greatly missed. His
smile made him a friend to everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled
American Veterans or Trinity Gospel Temple.
Calling hours are 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday Feb. 5, 2010 with the funeral at 1
p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the Maberry Funeral Home. Burial will take

William Lawrence Howell, 77, of Christiansburg,
Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. He was preceded in death
by his father, William Jackson Howell; mother, Rhetta Aquilla Akers Howell;
sister, Iva Carroll; daughter-in-law, Linda G. Howell; and his first wife
and mother of his children, Janet S. Howell.
He was a veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict,
and was wounded during combat.
He was the founder and owner of Howell's Auto Sales for
over 50 years where he repaired and sold countless vehicles for numerous
people. He was always willing to help anyone at any time or just sit and
enjoy a lengthy conversation. Not much could rival his passion for his
antique cars and trucks and his love of visiting car shows and cruise-ins.
He was also a racing fan and competitor in his early years. He shared his
knowledge and supported his sons, "Bo" and Tony, in their racing
achievements. He enjoyed going to the Floyd Country Store every Friday
night where he would listen and flatfoot to the music. He was very well
known and respected by everyone in the community. He will forever be
missed, especially by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Weeks, Timothy
"Bo" Howell, Tony and wife, Linda Howell, Amy Howell, and
Christopher Howell; eight grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and
numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday,
September 12, 2009, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy
Turpin officiating. Interment to follow in the Duncan Chapel Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at
the Maberry Funeral Home, as well as on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the
service time at 1 p.m.

the result of an automobile accident. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Walter C. Phillips; a son, Herbert Phillips; four grandsons and
two great-grandsons. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and
Margie Phillips, of Willis; daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Fielding
Shockley, of Lewisburg, W.Va.; daughter and special friend, Darlene Perdue
and Frank Bobbitt, of Woodlawn; seven grandsons and seven granddaughters-in-law;
five granddaughters and four grandsons-in-law; 27 great-grandchildren; nine
great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one
stop-great-great-grandchild; several special nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Duncans Chapel Cemetery.

Dickerson, Kevin Hall, Andrew Thomas and Kevin Sowers. Other members of the
Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mabel Pearl Cox Reed, 82, of Floyd,
Va., the Alum Ridge community , passed away Friday evening, November 13,
1992, at Camelot Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg.
She was born in Floyd Co., August 17, 1910, a daughter of Zackriah
"Zack" Taylor and Eliza Ellen Reed-Cox. She was a united in
marriage in Floyd County, March 14, 1934 to Dewey Taylor Reed, who was born
on February 13, 1908 in the Alum Ridge community to William Reed &
Isabelle Reed-Reed.
She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the breather in the Alum
Ridge community where she resided with her husband, Dewey T. Reed, who
survives, and dear friends, Roy and Jaunita Turpin.
Also surviving are: seven sisters, Ocie Ellen Cox Dulaney of Troutville,
Rosie May Cox Clay of Floyd, Eulala Elsie Cox Dickerson and Edith
"Ilene" Cox Hylton, both of Willis, Clarice Elizabeth Cox Smith
of Indian Valley, Dorcas Elaine Cox and Lois Jean Cox, both of Floyd; also
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with
Rev. Carl Ratcliff officiating. Interment was in Duncan Chapel Community
Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Wood Funeral Home of Floyd.

Surviving are her children, Norma Sebastian, Kenny Reed, Doug Reed and
Sandra Dillon, all of Bassett, and April Reed of the Blue Ridge Nursing
Center, Stuart; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Essie Goad of Henry
and Rosie Akers of the Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd
with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Chapel
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

donating his eyes that someone else would be able to see. He never met a
stranger, was ornery, fun loving and set in his ways, but if he liked you
he was a good friend.
He is survived by his wife Juanita T. Salmons; son, Kenny
Joe Salmons; grandsons, Matthew & Kody Salmons; sister, Janette
Spangler; step-sister, Indy Mae Branscome; brother, David Salmons; special
doggie “Digger”; several brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law; many friends
and good neighbors.

feeding the birds and squirrels.

numerous aunts and uncles, including one special Uncle, Buddy Turpin, who
he took shopping once a week.

Uriah Elbert Turpin, 85, of Floyd
left on his heavenly journey Sunday October 14, 2007.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Geneva
Turpin; his ten children and their spouses, Ray and Linda Turpin, Roy and
Juanita Turpin, Wanda Cox, Bonnie and Jesse Lawrence, Juanita and Joe
Salmons, Kathy Adkins, Rita Turpin and James Worrell, Marla and Danny Owen,
Teresa and Scott Beard, and Buddy Turpin; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen
great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in
death by two sons, Guy Turpin and Garry Joe Turpin.
Uriah was known as a hardworking man who made providing for his family his
priority, who enjoyed visiting with and helping others throughout the
community, and who enjoyed having fun and bringing joy to the young and old
alike by always carrying around candy to share.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday October 16, 2007 at the Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating.
Interment will follow at Duncan's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Maberry Funeral Home.

Geneva Caryleen Marshall Turpin,
85, of Floyd, Va., left on her heavenly journey on Thursday, October 21,
2010. Those left to cherish her memory are her 10 children and spouses, Ray
and Linda Turpin, Roy and Juanita Turpin, Wanda Cox, Bonnie and Jesse Lawrence,
Juanita and Joe Salmons, Kathy Adkins, Rita Turpin and James Worrell, Marla
and Danny Owen, Teresa and Scott Beard, and Buddy Turpin; sisters, Isabelle
Jalis, of Dumfries, Va., and Oleda Henley, of Pulaski, Va.; brother, Guy
Marshall, of Max Meadows, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and
three great greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Uriah Turpin; two sons, Guy Turpin and Garry Joe Turpin; and three
brothers, Jesse Marshall, Everette Marshall, and Will Marshall. Always with
a ready smile and a great sense of humor, she rarely complained even though
you knew at times her heart was breaking. Her love of nature was apparent
by her surroundings, and she dearly loved her children, grandchildren,
great and great-great-grandchildren and being blessed with Buddy, has
filled her life with joy and happiness beyond compare. Funeral Services
will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Maberry Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating. Interment will follow
in the Duncan Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers,

Linda
Kaye Winfield, 74 of Stony Point, N.C., passed away on
Tuesday, July 1, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and
Sara Winfield; and daughter, Sara Elizabeth Carroll.
She is survived by her loving husband of 15 years, James Dale Carroll, Sr.;
sons, James Dale Carroll, Jr., and Michael Wayne Carroll (Kimberly);
daughters, Judy Elaine Hairston (Jeremiah), and Samantha Leigh Carroll
(Stephon); brothers, Keith Winfield, and Mark Winfield; and 12 grandchildren.
Linda loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and enjoyed attending Bible
Study with friends, Joe and Becky Merrill. She was a long time member of
Rock of Israel Congregation in Hickory, N.C., and attended until her health
declined.
She was an artist who loved making
stained glass creations and jewelry. She took pride in her work and loved
sharing it with others. She was witty and always had a quick come back.
Linda was the life of the party and everyone who knew her, loved her.
Even though she never had children,
she loved James' children and grandchildren as her own. She was
affectionately known as
"Grandma."
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025 in the
Duncan Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. The family would
like to thank the staff of Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., and
the in home hospice and palliative care for their love and care of Linda.
