He is survived by his wife, Schelena Haley Cox of Riner; two daughters, Amanda Cox and Kerry Cox, both of Riner; one son-in-law, John Wilson of Riner; three grandchildren, Randall Wilson and Ronnie Wilson, "Angel Baby" Brittany Cox; special nephew, Donnie Cox; five sisters, Bessie Handy of Bassett, Ruby Wass of Roanoke, Eunice Goff of Michigan, Maxine Streetman of Michigan and Ruth Ann Miles of Radford; three brothers, Douglas Cox of Bassett, Leonard Cox of Riner and Carson Cox of Salem. Graveside Funeral Services will be Monday, 12 noon, July 10, 2006 at the Hale Family Cemetery, Dusty Rock Road, near Floyd with the Rev, David Hurd officiating. The family will receive friends 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home. Arrangements by Wood Funeral Home in Floyd.

Schelena Haley Cox, 53, of Riner, Va. passed away at her home, Wednesday October 10, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul V. Cox. She is survived by two daughters, Amanda Dawn Cox and Kerry Cox Goad and husband, Ricky, all of Riner; three grandchildren, Randal Keith Wilson, Ronnie Lee Wilson and Britttany Nicole Cox; mother and stepfather, Lucy H. and George Hale of Floyd; father and stepmother, Carlton and Mary Haley of Christiansburg; three brothers, Roy Haley, Leo Haley, and Virgil Hale; and three sisters, Dixie Tolley, Wanda Culverhouse, and Melita Stuart. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church with the Rev. David Hurd officiating. Interment in the Hale Family Cemetery, Dusty Rock Road, Floyd. The Family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church. Arrangements by Wood Funeral Home in Floyd.

George Tyler Hale RINER, Va. George Tyler Hale, 69, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Lucy Almita Hale; two brothers, Lee Hale and R.L. Hale; daughter, Schelena Cox; and granddaughter, Kerry Goad. George was a 40-year member of the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church where he held many positions. He was Vice Chairman for 22 years and Officer of Men's Ministry. He taught SS and was a youth worker and sponsor and he drove the youth van for several years. He also drove the SS van. He tag-teamed with the Pastor and mowed the church grounds with his grandson, William, while his wife, Lucy, worked in the flower beds. He worked several days a year making apple butter. George and Lucy rocked the babies in the nursery for several years. George was a friend and father figure to many members of the church where he stayed active until his death. He worked for Cooper Industry until their closing in 1994. He then started farming and raising cattle on five of the farms he had leased, with his wife by his side, until his illness no longer allowed him to farm. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Howard Hale of Riner; sons and daughters-in-law, Vergil and Wanda Hale of Riner, Leo and Cheryle Haley of Riner, Roy Haley of Christiansburg, and David and Debbie Hurd of Christiansburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Clinton Price of Riner, Dixie Tolley of Buchanan, Wanda Culverhouse of Trinity, N.C., Melita Stuart of Riner, and Betty and Eric Fraizer of Newport; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Francis and Galen Huff of Floyd, and Etheline and Milton Duncan of Floyd; and special friends, Pete Brougman, Sonnie Lovern, and Judy Dickerson. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church with the Dr. David Hurd officiating. Interment will follow at the Hale Cemetery. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Lucy Howard Hale was called home Saturday, February 20, 2016, while in the presence of her loving and devoted sons, Vergil and Roy, beloved daughter and granddaughters, Betty, Shian, and Chelsea; daughter-in-law, Mae Hale; and devoted caregiver, Cheryle Barrett. Lucy was a longtime active member of the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church. She and her late husband, George enjoyed working with children and drove a church bus full of grandchildren and neighborhood children to services. Lucy and George were responsible for many people hearing the Lord's word. One of Lucy's greatest joys was seeing her entire family in church. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Nellie Jewell Howard; loving and devoted husband, George Tyler Hale; daughter, Schelena Cox; beloved granddaughter, Kerrie Cox Goad; sisters, Stella Kozar, Melba Kozar, Shirley Reed, Sandra Gibson, and Maxine Miller; and brothers, Charlie Howard, and Early Ray Howard. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Vergil and Wanda Mae Hale, Charlie Roy Haley, and Carlton Leo Haley; daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie Tolley and Pete, Wanda Culverhouse, Melita Stuart and Sonny, and Bettie and Eric Frazier; sister and brother-in-law, Annie and Richard Caldwell; sisters-in-law and spouses, Francis and Galen Huff, and Etheline and Milton Duncan; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; special friends, Judy Dickerson, Richard Standford, Dovie Jordan, and Clinton Price; and special companion "Scruffy". A graveside service was held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Hale Cemetery with Pastor David Hurd officiating. Sandra Howard Gibson, 62, of Riner, passed Away at her home October 2, 2006. She was a member of the Christianburg Wesleyan Church. She is preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Howard Wilson; three sisters and a brother, Maxine Miller, Shirley Reed Bertha Howard and Early Ray Howard. She is survived by her husband, Kerry Ray Gibson of Riner; one daughter and husband, Donna and Doug Underwood of Elliston; and a son, Donnie Howard of Union Valley; three grandchildren, Vanessa Underwood, Daniel Howard and Wyatt Howard; four sisters, Stella Kozar and Melba Kozar both of Christianburg, Lucy and George Hale of Floyd, Annie and Richard Caldwell of Riner; and a brother, Charlie Howard of Floyd. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd with Dr. David L. Hurd officiating, with interment in the Hale Cemetery, Dusty Rock Road.
