(From The Bellingham Herald, 8 May 2008) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.BOYDSTUN, David Ray died unexpectedly on Lummi Island, Washington, while going for his daily morning run on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. So far, there is no explanation for his death. David was an exceptional athlete, competing in his first marathon in Dubai in January. Recently he participated in Bellingham's Ski to Sea as the runner. Last weekend he and his best friend, Robert Mosher, circumnavigated Orcas Island by kayak and he appeared to be in perfect health. He loved to run in cool, misty weather, and was undoubtedly having a phenomenally beautiful run when he suddenly died. He was employed by ChevronTexaco and worked in Bakersfield and Ventura, CA; Ferndale, WA; Aksai, Kazakhstan and, most recently, he and his family have been living in Al-Zour, Kuwait. They were on Lummi Island for their summer home-leave. David was an inspiration to all who knew him because of the way he treated others. He embodied the fruits of the Spirit: unending patience, kindness, love, joy, peace, goodness, gentleness and self-control. He did not get caught up in the minutiae of daily life; he seemed keenly aware of life's impermanence, and he never let any special moments pass without celebrating them. Last week he climbed odd hillsides to pick ripe salmonberries for Bryn. He met his wife, Anne Madsen, at a triathalon in Bakersfield, CA, in May of 1992; they were married in Yosemite in March of 1993. Their daughter Bryn was born in March 2002 and son Dylan was born in Kuwait in January. He was a selfless husband and a doting, indulgent father. ... David is survived by his parents, Richard and Betty Boydstun of Sedalia, CO; his wife Anne Madsen-Boydstun; his children, Bryn and Dyland; and his sister, Beverly Clemens of Castle Rock, CO. A Celebration of David's life, followed by a time of sharing and a meal, will begin at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11th at the Grange on Lummi Island. Jones|Moles Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
