GHIO, Michelle Suzanne - A memorial service for Michelle Suzanne Ghio of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home with the Rev. James Lee officiating. Ms. Ghio of 2100 Alabama St., Apt. V4, was the victim of a homicide on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 1994. She was 32. Born April 28, 1962, to Mickey and Carole Boston Ghio in San Pedro, Calif., she was a resident of Bellingham since 1974. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1980 and was a member of Assumption Church. She worked at Cost Cutter Foods in Bellingham for many years. Survivors include her parents of Bellingham; brother Kirk Ghio of Friday Harbor; grandparents Jimmie and Minnie Ghio of San Pedro; and aunts Janis Heuser of Gold Beach, Ore., and Judi Boston of San Pedro.GHOBRIAL, Naima, age 70, from San Diego, passed away in Bellingham on Thursday January 8, 2009. Son of John and Mary (Ghiosso) Giacoletti, he was born Sept. 15, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. He retired from Intalco Aluminum. Preceded in death by both his parents, he is survived by two sons, John E. Giacoletti of Blaine and Steven E. Giacoletti of Bellingham. A surrogate grandfather to Robert and Chris Seffern, he will be missed by everyone who knew him. Graveside services will be held, Tues., Sept. 9, 2003, 2 p.m., Greenacres Moles Cemetery, 5700 Northwest Dr., Ferndale.

Christian prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Westford Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Assumption with the Rev. James Lee officiating. He was born Nov. 10, 1920, on the Island of Vis, Yugoslavia, to George and Donima Giaconi. At age 14 his parents put him on a boat to Ellis Island, N.Y. He joined the Navy and served his tour in the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. Mr. Giaconi was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a fisherman in Alaska and managed the Bornstein and Dahl Fish canneries until he retired at 62. Survivors include his wife, Alma Giaconi, of Bellingham; brother Andrew Giaconi of Waveland, Miss.; daughter Domina Howe of Racine, Wis.; step-daughter Marian Knutsen of Anacortes; step-sons Bob Chase and Don Chase, both of Bellingham; sisters Mariosha Giaconi and Tetena Giaconi of Komiza, Yugoslavia; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. Arrangements are by Westford Funeral Home.
GIARDE, Ella F., age 83 of 1021 Liberty St., B'ham passed away Fri. June 6. 1986. She was a lifetime resident of B'ham & is survived by brothers, John & wife Minnie Giarde, George & wife Tena Giarde; sister-in-law Elsie Giarde all of B'ham & numerous nieces & nephews. GIARDE, Elsie - Bellingham resident Elsie Giarde died Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, at her home. She was 91. She was born Feb. 26, 1901, in Tower, Minn., to Ole and Clara Hugdahl. She graduated from Bellingham Normal School in 1920. She taught in Poulsbo until her marriage to Gilbert Giarde. Mrs. Giarde attended the Goshen Community Church and was a member of the Goshen Grange. She enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert in 1968, her daughter Barbara Kincaid, and sister Alta Lee. Survivors include daughters, Beverly Odell and Virginia Richardson, both of Bellingham, Patricia Foot of Seattle, and Geraldine Graden of Ft. Bragg, Calif.; brother, Paul Hugdahl of Hemet, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Mr. Giarde of 3095 Goshen Road died at home Friday, Sept. 29, 1995. He was 88. He was born Aug. 16, 1907, to Peter T. and Gina Langass Giarde on the family homestead on Goshen Road. Mr. Giarde graduated from Harmony High School, now Mount Baker High, in 1925. A dairy and berry farmer, he married Tena Slikker on Jan. 13, 1934, in Bellingham. A member of Goshen Grange for 50 years and of Happy Travelers Camper Club of Bellingham, Mr. Giarde enjoyed fishing and playing pool. A gardener, he donated produce to the Salvation Army, Lighthouse Mission and the Bellingham Senior Activity Center. Survivors include his wife; daughters Dorothy Royal of Marysville and Nancy Burke of Spokane; twin brother John Giarde of Bellingham; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ten Mile Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Grace Baptist Fellowship Church, Lynden. Mrs. Giarde died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in her Bellingham home. She was 86. She was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Lynden to Henry and Magdalene Miller. She was an active member of the Goshen Community Church in Everson and was involved in ministries such as Child Evangelism Fellowship, Gideon's Auxiliary, Ten Mile Sunday School, St. John's Lutheran Church, and several mission organizations. She had a great love for children and spent much of her time in thinking of and serving others. Mrs. Giarde was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond R. Martinsen, in 1952, and her second husband, John P. Giarde in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Carlson, Mary Robson and Ellen Miller. Survivors include sons, Carl Martinsen of Guatemala, Elvin Martinsen of Yakima, Paul Martinsen of Bellingham, Duane Martinson also of Bellingham, and Glen Martinsen of Marysville; daughters, Miriam Sap, Janet Rubenack, Linda Watkins, all of Bellingham and Esther Waldemar of Lynden; two stepsons, John Giarde Jr. of Bellingham and Daniel Giarde of Edmonds; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters June Kaaland, Frieda Jordan, both of Bellingham, and Alma Gansler of Everson; brother Herman Miller of Everson and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. GIBB, Gladys F., 88, 229 N. State St., died Friday (April 6, 1984) in a local convalescent home. A lifetime Bellingham resident, she was born here on Feb. 14, 1896. She was one of the founders of the Bandage Club at St. Joseph Hospital during World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle, and is survived by a son, Dr. Robert Gibb, Bellingham; a daughter, Phyllis Holland, Ferndale; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister [Imojene Anderson]. Arrangements are pending at Westford Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gibb had resided in this community for the past 51 years, was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since 1905 and was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs and a member of St. Luke's Assistance League. Surviving relatives include one son, Earl Gibb and one daughter, Mrs. Floyd Ebright both of this city; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. B. W. Case of Seattle; one brother, George F. Pearse of Walnut, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Fr. W. Robert Webb and Cannon E. B. Smith Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 1:30 p.m., followed by cremation.

GIBB, Robert Bruce, Lt., age 37 years, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, (1945) at Las Vegas, Nevada. Lt. Gibb, born in Bellingham, had been in the service of the army medical corps, supply, since 1942. He was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal church. He is survived by the widow, Helen Gibb; mother, Mrs. Maude Gibb; one brother, W. Earl Gibb; one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Ebright, and an aunt, Miss Marion Pearse, all of Bellingham. The remains were received by the Harlow-Hollingsworth funeral home where services will be conducted by Rev. Canon E. B. Smith, Monday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. Cremation.
GIBB, William Earle, age 72, of 2144 Delesta Drive, passed away Saturday, April 9, (1966). A resident of Bellingham for the past 32 years, he was a retired medical technologist with the Gibb Labratory (sic) and had been the first labratory director for the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, many years ago. Mr. Gibb was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church; Bellingham Rotary Club; Bellingham Lodge No. 194, B.P.O. Elks; Bellingham Golf and Country Club; and the Washington State Association of Blood Banks. Survivors include his widow, Gladys F., at home; two sons, Dr. Robert P. Gibb, Bellingham, and Douglas F. Gibb, Pullman, Wash.; daughter, Phyllis Holland, Lynden; sister, Mrs. Floyd Ebright, Bellingham; 12 grandchildren; and a nephew, Dr. Robert Ebright, Bellingham. Ferndale Lodge No. 264 F&AM will assist. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery. Mr. Gibbons of 763 Cedar St. died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1994, in Bellingham. He was 71. Born Feb. 13, 1923 to Corneilous and Delilah Inez Jackson Gibbons in Hodgens, Okla., he married Virginia Lanford on June 13, 1943 in Leadville, Colo. Mr. Gibbons served as a demolition expert with the U.S. Marines from 1943-46 in Okinawa, Sipan and Guam. He worked with the U.S. Border Patrol and retired from the U.S. Immigration Service as a supervisory immigration inspector. Survivors include his wife of the family home; son Gary Edward Gibbons of Ferndale; daughter Gail Ann Shriner of Webster, Mass.; three grandchildren [Lisa Marie Anderson, Jodi Lynn Shriner and Shane Eric Gibbons]; two great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.

Mrs. Gibbons had resided in this community for the past 55 years; was a member of the First Christian Church and in later years, had attended the Church of God. Survivors are two sons, Walter and Glenn, both of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Alta L. King, of Mount Vernon, and Mrs. Marie M. Smith of Bellingham; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Andy J. Prettyman; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gibbons came to Bellingham forty-two years ago and was a plasterer and brick mason contractor, a member of Townsend Club No. 5 and the Washington Old Age Pension Union. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Grace E. Gibbons; two sons, Glenn A. and Walter M. Gibbons and two daughters, Mrs. Marie M. Smith, of Bellingham, Mrs. Alta L. King, Seattle; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Allen Gibbons, Waterville, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Lila Beis, Miss Ida Gibbons and Mrs. Jessie Funk, all of Whitehouse, Ohio. GIBBS, Alice G. - Memorial services for Alice G. Gibbs, 85, a former Bellingham resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Garden Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William G. Berney officiating. Mrs. Gibbs, a Puyallup resident since 1985, died Tuesday (Jan. 3, 1989) in Puyallup. She was born Sept. 28, 1903, in Ladysmith, Wis., and moved to Bellingham in 1928. She was a member of Garden street United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association, Bellingham Senior Citizens Center and the YWCA. Her first husband, Eliot Gilmore, died in 1956. Her second husband, Stewart Gibbs, died in 1975. Survivors include four daughters, Emily Gilmore Goheen and Betty Gilmore Heitman of Tacoma, Grace Gilmore McGinnis of Milwaukee, Ore., and Roberta Gilmore Post of Vashon; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beda Mackin of Madison, Wis.; and a brother, George Mackin of Green Bay, Wis. The body will be cremated. Ashes will be buried in Bayview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home.
GIBBS, Betty, 67, was born 3/24/37 in Arlington. She passed away 11/23/04, in Renton. Survived by husband John Gary Gibbs of Renton, sons Brad Gibbs of Bellingham, Jeff (Tracy) Gibbs of Renton, Randy (Mary) Gibbs of Enumclaw, and Cory Gibbs of Portland; three grandchildren and four sisters. (From The Bellingham Herald, 1 Dec 2004) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.GIBBS, Clarice G., of Birch Bay, died Tuesday (Aug. 27, 1985) at a Bellingham nursing home. Mrs. Gibbs, an accomplished artist and musician, was born in Birmingham, England. She and her husband, Reo L. Gibbs, came to Birch Bay 16 years ago after living for 15 years in Everett. At Birch Bay, they lived at Skeena Way. While living in Vancouver, B.C., for 25 years, Mrs. Gibbs taught piano, organ and voice, and served as choir leader in a church there. She also continued with painting, for which she was trained in England, and had a number of her works shown in U.S., Canadian and European galleries. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters in British Columbia; several step-daughters and step-sons; and many grandchildren. Cremation is planned. Private memorial services will be in Kamloops, B.C.
GIBBS, James Parson, age 83. of 1015 Indian St., passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, Feb. 1, (1956). He is survived by one son, James T. Giggs of Stanwood, Wash., also five grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones' Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home whee services will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence J. Forsberg, Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. Final resting place Greenacres Memorial Park.
GIBBS, Fr. John William, of Bellingham, WA, died Thursday November 24, 2005 in Bellingham. Fr. John was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 22, 1936 to William and Ailsa (McFetridge) Gibbs. Fr. John graduated from California State College and obtained his master's degree at Seabury Western Theological Seminary in 1978. Fr. John had been a pastor in Olympia, WA until he moved to Bellingham and became rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for 12-1/2 years, retiring in January 2001. During John's retirement he served as vicar at Christ Episcopal Church in Blaine. He served with the U.S. Navy for 26 years retiring as a Commander. Survived by his loving wife, Sally, whom he married in Lacey, WA on December 8, 1985, and daughter, Mandi and husband CPO Greg Alden of Oak Harbor, WA; and his two grandsons, Jacob and Thomas. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday December 1, 2005 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Leo blaze a trail to Heaven on Mother's Day 2003 and Norma followed on October 28, 2004. Jesus was not a mere religious "term" to her; He was her very life force. Her favorite hymn was "All That Thrills My Soul Is Jesus". Norma's strengths were loving kindness, a gentle spirit, quiet solidity and above all, a wide margin of patience. Her beauty and graceful demeanor were embodied within the core of her being and expressed in her beautiful paintings.

GIBBS, Ruth Mary - A graveside service for Ruth Mary Gibbs of Renton, formerly of Whatcom County, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Greenacres Memorial Park near Ferndale. Mrs. Gibbs died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Renton. She was 94. Born Oct. 17, 1906, in Green Bay, Wisc., she lived in Cedarville near Nugents Corner for more than 80 years. She was an avid gardener and photographer. Her husband, Norman W. Gibbs, died in 1977. Her son Norman Wesley Gibbs and sister Marie also died previously. Survivors include sons James Wilson Gibbs of Bellingham and John Gary Gibbs of Renton and seven grandchildren. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home near Ferndale.

Mrs. Giblin, 1302 Orleans St. died Friday, (Aug. 3, 1990) in Bellingham. She was born Olive Victoria Welch Dec. 29, 1888, in Paterson, N.J. She had been a resident of Bellingham since 1981. Her husband, Charles Giblin, preceded her in death. Survivors include five daughters, Marge Lilyroth of Bellingham, Elizabeth C. GIBSON, Arthur Eugene, age 71 of 1713 Euclid Avenue, passed away Monday, June 21, 1982. He was born in Gloversville, New York on May 5, 1911 and moved to Bellingham where he had been a resident and an active member of the community for the past 30 years. He was a Boatswain Mate in the Merchant Marines for 7 years, traveling extensively throughout Africa. He was employed at Jos. St. John's Glass for 20 years as a glazier and cabinet maker. Until the time of his death he worked as a counselor at the Bellingham Olympic Center. He had been an active leader, chairman of GSR, and counselor for AA for the past 9 years. He created the Sunday Morning Breakfast Meeting in Ferndale 6 years ago. He gave unselfishly to all those who needed help and touched the lives of many people in our community. He was preceded in death by his son, David E. Gibson on December 21, 1978. He is survived by his daughter, Edith Gibson Boyd of City; 2 sons, Douglas C. Gibson of City; & SSG Michael Sean Gibson of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Bessie Gibson of Bellingham; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. GIBSON, Earl A. - After a short illness, "Gibby" Earl A. Gibson, age 90, passed away in Bellingham on September 27, 2012. Gibby was born on May 10, 1922 in Baird, TX to Gabe and Lula Gibson. Gibby and his family moved to the Los Angeles area in 1927. In June of 1942 he was married to Bernice Ann Freeman, and they had one son. Gibby volunteered for the Army Air Corp and served in both Europe and Asia from 1942 to 1945. After the Army, Gibby went to work for Mobil Oil Corp. in Torrance, CA where he worked from 1947 to 1954 when he transferred to the Ferndale refinery. He and his family lived in Ferndale from 1954 until 2009. Gibby retired from the refinery in 1983. In 2009 he moved to St. Francis in Bellingham. His family would like to thank his friends, the staff at St. Francis, for the love, care, and honorable way he was treated during his stay at this wonderful facility. Gibby is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, sisters, Rita and Ester Gibson, and a grandson, Toby Gibson. No services are planned at this time. A retired farmer he had been a resident of the Everson-Nooksack area since 1937. He was a member of the Nooksack Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Blanche; one son, Doyle of Blanchard, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Clariece Faulkner of Ferndale, Mrs. Ina Adkins of Caliente, Calif., Mrs. Lucille Porter, of Everson, Mrs. Nadine Todd of Entiat, Wash.; one brother, Dellas; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Parker and Mrs. Lillian McCord, all in Iowa; also 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Nooksack Methodist Church, Thursday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Ben Davis and Samuel Carlson officiating. Mrs. Gibson was born Sept. 5, 1908, in New Orleans. She married Harry Gibson of Bellingham in August, 1945, in Louisiana before moving to Bellingham. The couple lived here until 1973, when Harry Gibson retired and they moved to Roswell, N.M. He died in 1980 and Mrs. Gibson moved to Youngstown, Ohio. She is survived by several close friends in Bellingham. She was an Avon representative locally for many years, a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist and was known for her fondness of pets. There are no local memorial services.
GIBSON, Orietta Caroline, age 68, passed away at the home of Mrs. J. R. Wilkinson at 519 Sixteenth Street, Wednesday, February 4, (1948). Miss Gibson had been a resident of this community for the past thirty years and was a retired practical nurse. Deceased was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church, Sehome Chapter, O.E.S., St. Luke's Assistance League, and the Orthopedic. GIBSON, William - A funeral for William "Bill" Gibson of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones-Moles Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Mr. Gibson died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996. He was 95. Born June 8, 1901, to George and Elizabeth Everitt Gibson in Whatcom County, he was a lifelong county resident. Mr. Gibson retired as a custodian for the Bellingham School District in 1966. He enjoyed gardening, reading and talking about Bellingham history. GIDEON, Reinhold "Reiny" 70, a former Bellingham resident and businessman, died Thursday (Jan. 24, 1985) in an Olympia hospital after suffering a stroke Jan. 21. Mr. Gideon was a co-owner of the Alaska Tavern while living in Bellingham in the 1950s and early '60s. He had been living in South Bend. Surviving are his wife, Trudy, and four children, including a daughter, Jean Bowler, of Bellingham whose mother, Loretta Lindquist, of Bellingham is Mr. Gideon's former wife; eight grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. An outdoor enthusiast and lover of nature, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Graveside services were held Monday at Menlo Cemetery in Raymond.

GIENGER, Elias died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 26, 2009. He was 81, born July 14, 1927 in Alberta, Canada to Adam and Magdalena (Bender) Gienger. Elias graduated from Meridian High School. He married Nada Gienger, who preceded him in death in 1992. In 1994, he married D. Joyce Erickson. He was a retired member of Iron Workers Local 86. Elias enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Elias was preceded in death by his step-son Stan Erickson in 1997; son-in-law Dan Woods in 2008; and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Joyce; daughters, Pam Woods, Vickie Haug (Mike), Judy Bozarth; step-daughters, Nadean Meyer (Bill), Meg Brotnov (Mort); Sharon Posey; step-son Harvey Erickson (Mary); brother Albert Gienger; sister Margie Hawkinson; step-daughter-in-law Lori Erickson; 6 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. (From The Bellingham Herald, 30 Sep 1992) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.GIENGER, Rose - Surrounded by family, Rose (Walker) Gienger, age 89, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2005. At the time of her death, she was a resident at The Christian Health Care Center in Lynden. Her family is so grateful for the loving care and compassion the staff at CHCC demonstrated the final 18 months of her life. Rose was born on August 25, 1916, to Wilhelm and Dorothea Walker in Buffalo Head, Saskatchewan, Canada, the fourth of ten children. She married Ryan Gienger on October 19, 1936, in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada. They farmed near Vegreville, Alberta, and their first three children were born there. Their fourth child was born after the Giengers moved to Lynden on November 6, 1948. The central part of Rose's life was family, whether it be her own or the extended family of the neighborhood in which she lived. Young people were attracted to her as she so generously gave of her time, resources, and most of all herself. She was also very active in the Lynden Assembly of God Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was a blessing to the children in her classes. Rose was a mother and homemaker first, but she also worked outside the home on a seasonal basis at a cannery in Lynden and as a field boss for Boerhave Berry Farms. In June, 1959, she lost her beloved Ryan in a tragic accident while constructing Baker Dam and then took a position in the housekeeping department at St. Luke's Hospital. She worked hard at everything she did and touched the lives of many people in the process. Rose enjoyed cooking and baking, and her kitchen always emitted a sweet aroma. She welcomed extended family and friends into her home and cared for them as if they were her own. Rose had a passion for reading and enjoyed sharing her books with others. She also had a love for gardening and kept her yard tidy and colorful. She truly was a "Rose" in the bouquet of life. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ed, Ted and Al Walker; two sisters, Lydia Newsted and Alvina Flaig; her husband Ryan and son Marv. She is survived by her son Ron (Ione) Gienger; daughters Gail (Gary) Hall and Cheryl (Dwight) Davis, all of Lynden; brothers Chris and Bill (Lil) Walker of Salmon Arm, B.C., Canada; and sister Vi Harrison of Victoria, B.C., Canada. She also had nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, November 7 at 10 a.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in Word of Life Church, Lynden, with Rev. John Hagebush officiating.

GIESECKE, Dorothy Arnold, age 78, of 353 Cove Road, Bellingham, passed away Tues., Feb. 11, 1997, at her home. She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in New York City, NY to Robert and Beatrice (Armijo) Arnold and has been a Whatcom County resident since 1970. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church; St. Paul's Chancel Guild; P.E.O.; A.A.U.W.; Aftermath Club; Bellingham Music Club; Fairhaven Lady Lions; Bellingham Land Cruisers; Amy Fegley Bridge Group; Whatcom Museum Docents; Soroptimist International; and YWCA where she was a past president of the board and past interim director. She was the first Executive Director of Whatcom County Planned Parenthood, from which she retired in 1977. During WWII, she served as a Red Cross service club director in the Pacific. After the war, she served successively as associate director of personnel at Antioch College; SW Regional Director of student YWCA; Administrative Assistant for C.A.R.E. in Rome, Italy; and Interim Director of Norfolk, Virginia YWCA. From 1954 to 1970, she was Director of Vocational Guidance at Goucher College in Towson, MD. She married Ray H. Giesecke in 1970 in Towson, MD and then moved to Bellingham. She volunteered and became director of Whatcom County Planned Parenthood in April of 1971. She is survived by her husband, Ray H. Giesecke of the family home; step-sons Michael Giesecke and wife Beverly of Florida and Gary Giesecke of Bellingham; step-daughter, Ann Walker & husband Jim of Snohomish, WA; and step-grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, and Amy Walker. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Ethel Brady. A funeral service will be held Fri., Feb. 14, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2117 Walnut St., Bellingham with the Reverend John Gibbs officiating. GIESECKE, Joachim - No local funeral services will be held for Joachim Giesecke, 59, of Wolfenbuttel, Germany, who died Tuesday (July 23, 1985) in a local residence. Mr. Geisecke was the representative of a large youth-soccer district in West Germany, said Jim Hanrahan, Whatcom County Soccer Association president. He was visiting Bellingham with the Wolfenbuttel team, coaches, trainers and some family members. Hanrahan said the group had a day-outing Sunday in Friday Harbor, and that Geisecke wasn't feeling well. The group went to Lake Whatcom on Monday, but Geisecke did not go along. Mr. Geisecke's body will be returned to Germany. Westford Funeral Home is handling arrangements here.
GIESECKE, Otto F., 92, 353 Cove Road, died Monday in a local convalescent center. Born Nov. 9, 1887, in Dornten, Germany, he came to the U.S. in 1911. He farmed in North Dakota until World War II when he was employed by the Navy in an ammunitions depot in Nebraska. he retired in 1956 and had resided with his son in Bellingham since 1966. He is survived by three sons, a daughter, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Underwood, N.D., under the direction of Goetz Funeral Home.
GIESLER, Anna Mae, age 67, resident of Lynnwood died Sept. 2, 1978. She was born Nov. 9, 1910, Johnson City, Tenn. She lived in Montana and came to Big Lk. at the age of 12. She attended school in Sedro Woolley, Deaconess Training School in Seattle, Deaconess Hospital in Spokane where she became a registered nurse. A graduate of University of Wash. and Bachelor of Science Degree. She served in the Army Nurses Corp in the South Pacific. GIESLER, Dora, age 77 of Birch Bay, passed away in a Bellingham hospital, Saturday, Nov. 18, (1961). Mrs. Giesler was a retired school teacher and had made her home at Birch Bay for the past 11 years. She was past Matron and member of the Ruth Chapter No. 52, O.E.S., a member of the Birch Bay Orthopedic Guild and the Birch Bay Grange. A native of Bellingham, she was born Nov. 9, 1904, the only child of Alva and Mary Sinks. She married Edwin Giger in Bellingham on Dec. 15, 1925. Mrs. Giger belonged to the Teamsters union while she worked at a cannery. A 20-year resident of Lincoln Square, she was a member of Calvary Temple. She enjoyed her family, friends, knitting, dogs and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and by a grandson, Steven Giger, in 1969. GILBERG, Helen F., age 83 years, of 3108 Pinewood, passed away at a local hospital Friday Sept. 17, (1954) following an extended illness. Mrs. Gilbert died of cancer Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 at St. Francis Extended Health Care. She was 70. Born May 23, 1929 in McVille, ND, she had been a local resident since 1987. Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Raymond High School in southwest Washington in 1947. On Oct. 4, 1948, she married Arthur Horace Gilbert in Raymond. He died in 1974. Mrs. Gilbert worked as a clerk at 7-Eleven Store on Lakeway Drive. She was a member of South Bend Eagles. Her hobbies included sewing, crossword puzzles and watching television. He son David Gilbert preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Mary Dubuc of Ferndale and Susan Byers of Kodiak, Alaska; sons Tony Gilbert of Federal Way and John Gilbert of Kodiak; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. GILBERT, Charles "Chuck" of 1974 Main St., Ferndale, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 1994, at his home. he was 78. A private memorial service will be held Saturday at Custer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michele Campton-Stehr officiating. Born Nov. 23, 1915, to Raymond and Bessie Gilbert in Saybrook Point, Conn., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He married Ellen Blick on Aug. 25, 1945, in San Diego. They moved to Whatcom County the same year. Mr. Gilbert owned and operated Chuck's TV Repair and sales in Ferndale for 25 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Street-Pike Post 9474, Custer, and a charter member of Ferndale Kiwanis Club. He also belonged to American Legion Kulshan Post No. 154, where he served as post commander. Survivors include his wife of the family home; daughter Cheryl Brandt of Custer; sons Randy Gilbert and Grant Gilbert, both of Ferndale; brother Frank Gilbert of Florida; sister Marguerite Gallagher of Florida; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. GILBERT, Clyde Ellsworth, age 71 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Maude Gilbert, passed away at the family residence, 521 North Forest Street, Wednesday, June 25, (1947) following a lingering illness. GILBERT, Dan age 56, a Mt. Vernon resident died in Sedro Woolley, Tues., Sept. 2, (1980) suddenly. He was born in Mt. Vernon Nov. 26, 1923. He was educated in the Mt. Vernon schools graduating from Mt. Vernon High School with the class of 1943. He served in the United States Army during WWII with the second indian division serving overseas. After the war he returned to Mt. Vernon where he has lived since. He married Jean Elving in B'ham. July 27, 1968. Mr. Gilbert was a partner in the Sound Beverage Co. of Mt. Vernon. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge, the American Legion, The Eagles, The Teamsters Union and the National Rifle Association. Survivors are his wife Jean in Mt. Vernon, 1 son Doug Gilbert of Mt. Vernon, 2 step-daughters Donna Nation of Seattle and Penny Sheets of John Day, Oregon, 1 step-son, Jim Parker of Lyman, his father, Guy H. Gilbert of Mt. Vernon, 2 sisters Katheryn Tennis of Oak Harbor and Carol Worline of Sedro Woolley, 11 grandchildren and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Hawthorn Lawn Cemetery of Mt. Vernon at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5. Mr. Gilbert will lie in state at the Kern Funeral Chapel in Mt. Vernon, and Rev. George Gilbert in Kansas. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth. Services will be conducted from the Aaron Light Chapel in Mt. Vernon by the Rev. M. L. Root, Tuesday, May 20, at 3:00 p.m. Final resting place, the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
GILBERT, Iris L. of 8050 Stein Road, Custer, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1993. She was 89. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Wildermuth officiating. Born Aug. 23, 1903 in Casper, Wyo., she was a Whatcom County resident for 69 years. She worked for Kale Canning Company in Everson for 40 years, and was a member of United Teamsters Local No. 231 in Bellingham. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking. Survivors include brothers Curtis Gilbert and Gordon Gilbert, both of Custer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Moles Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gilbert had resided in Bellingham for the past 18 years. She leaves to survive her husband, Eugene W. Gilbert; 2 sons, David and Gregory, both of the home; 2 daughters, Debra Rusch of City and Carol Ann Gilbert of the home; 2 brothers, Lyle McClure of Hamilton and Dick McClure of City; a sister, Shirley Arthur of Sedro Woolley; her mother, Mrs. Ayleen McClure of Sedro Woolley. GILBERT, Lynn J., 79, a general contractor and lifelong resident of Whatcom County, died Thursday at his home in Bellingham. Mr. Gilbert, 929 11th St., was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Lynden. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers, Kulshan Kiwanis, the Elks Club and the Bellingham Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, Delores, of the family home; two sons, Richard Gilbert of Bellingham and James Gilbert of Ferndale; a daughter, Terese Gilbert of Auburn; a brother, Joseph K. Gilbert of Cupertino, Calif.; and three sisters, Catherine Johst of Phoenix, N.Y., Dorothy Welch of Sequim and Leona Bulger of Freeland, Wash. A rosary will be said at 7 p.. Monday in the Westford Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Louis Aufiero officiating.
GILBERT, Mahlon Bruce, 69, of Deming, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday, March 5, (1958). Mr. Gilbert had resided in this community for the past 28 years; was a retired teacher of Mt. Baker High; was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Deming and a member of Pierre B. Corwall Lodge No. 289, F. & A.M. Survivors are his widow, Mary D., at home; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Marne Brustad; three grandchildren, Val Gilber, Sally Merridee, and Kenneth Lee Brustad, all of Seattle; three brothers, J. Merwyn, of Pilot Rock, Ore., Ralph J., of Eugene, Ore., and Glen, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Leela Frazier, of San Francisco, and Mrs. Helen G. Casteel, of Vallejo, Calif. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Turney and Albert C. Gunderson, Friday, March 7, at 4 p.m., followed by cremation.
GILBERT, Marvin L. - Memorial services for Blaine resident and long-time ham radio operator Marvin Lee Gilbert will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Blaine. Mr. Gilbert, 70, of 8889 Blaine Road, died Saturday, (Nov. 30, 1991) at Stafholt Good Samaritan Center. He was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Nordegg, Alberta, to Charles and Nora Gilbert. He moved to Whatcom County in 1960. Mr. Gilbert, a retired electronics technician, was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a ham radio operator for more than 40 years, with the call letters W7KVA. Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of the family home; a son, Larry Gilbert of Bellingham; a daughter, Rosalie Sasaki of Kittitas; brothers Gordon Gilbert and Curtis Gilbert, both of Custer; sister Iris Gilbert of Bellingham; and four grandchildren. The Rev. Dennis Wildermouth will officiate at the service. Arrangements are by Jerns & McKinney Funeral Chapel.
GILBERT, Mary D. - Memorial services were held Thursday June 21st at the Fauntleroy Community Church, Seattle, for Mrs. Mary D. Gilbert who died Sunday evening, June 17, (1979). A former resident of Deming and an elementary school teacher at Acme, Mrs. Gilbert was born in Iowa February 18, 1894 to Mr. and Mrs. George Schlegel. She was married in 1920 to M. Bruce Gilbert and they moved to Deming in the early thirties. Her husband, who preceded her in death, was also with the Mount Baker School District where he taught science classes. Their daughter, Betty Marie Brustad survives as do the grandchildren, Val, Sally, and Kenneth, plus three great grandchildren. Mrs. Gilbert had been treasurer of the Deming Presbyterian Church for more than 20 years, a member of the Nooksack Chapter, O.E.S., and an outstanding Campfire leader.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered Sat. Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. from the Church of the Assumption with Rev. Louis Aufiero officiating. Followed by family interment in Bay View Cemetery Monday. Under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home.
GILBERT, Maurice, age 70 years of 120 Prospect St., passed away suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, (1966). Mr. Gilbert was a veteran of World War I. He leaves to survive one cousin, Robert Leitch and an aunt, Maytella Creek, both of Bellingham. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30 in the Chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.
GILBERT, Miriam H. - A memorial service for Miriam H. Gilbert, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Mt. Baker Care Center, 5280 Northwest Road. Chaplain Gary Peterson will officiate. Mrs. Gilbert died Tuesday, March 31, 1992, in a Whatcom County care center. She was born Aug. 27, 1901, in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, to George and Alice Garnett. She was a registered nurse and had worked at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia. She moved to Whatcom County 12 years ago. Her husband Walter E. Gilbert died in June 1987. Survivors include her step-daughter Roberta McCreary of San Francisco, five grandchildren in Ontario, Canada; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Moles Funeral Home; cremation by Greenacres Crematorium.
GILBERT, Orlando C., Dr., age 68 years, passed away at Pasadena, Calif., Saturday, March 2, (1946). Dr. Gilbert was a retired dentist and resided at Seattle the past five years. Previous to his removal he practiced at Vancouver, B.C., for thirty years and previous to that practised here. Surviving are one niece and one nephew. The remains will be received at Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. James M. Wilson, Saturday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
GILBERT, Ruth Elizabeth Christie, age 95, of Custer, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008 in Blaine. Ruth was born September 7, 1912 in Maple Falls, WA to Ernest R. and Belle Christie. She married Gordon D. "Bud" Gilbert in Bellingham in 1933. Ruth worked in Parts Control (PCR) as a parts accountant at Boeing for 25 years in Seattle, Renton and Auburn. She and her husband, Gordon both retired from Boeing in 1975 and moved on to family property in Custer, Washington. Ruth was a bit of an imp, loving a good joke and even practical jokes. She had a way of making every stranger feel cared for and appreciated. Ruth's family was her most treasured asset and she took great pains to make sure they always knew they were loved and cherished. Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, and travel. She got on trains by herself well into her late 80's. Ruth had 3 cats that she spoiled extensively and thoroughly. She adopted these and many more stray cats over the years. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1999; her parents; and brother, Ralph T.M. Christie. Ruth is survived by her children, Ronald D. Gilbert (Barbara), Kenneth L. Gilbert and Gerald L. Gilbert (Laine); 4 granddaughters and 6 grandsons; 5 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews all of whom love and will miss her. A Graveside service will be held on Friday, February 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park Ferndale.

She was born March 13, 1898 [in Maine]. Mrs. Gilbert has lived in Blaine for the last 20 years and was a college professor before retiring. A private remembrance service was held Wednesday afternoon. Final resting place will be at Enterprise Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Jern McKinney Funeral Chapel, Blaine.
GILBERT, Walter Edwin, age 87, of 210 B St., Blaine, passed away Friday, October 17, 1986 in Blaine. Mr. Gilbert leaves to survive his wife, Miriam of the family home; a daughter, Roberta McCreary of California. He was a 20 year resident of Pt. Roberts and a three year resident of Blaine. He was pilot for Canadian Airway and owned and operated the Gilbert Real Estate Company in Pt. Roberts for eight years. Memorial services were held Tuesday, October 21 at 11 a.m. in the Jerns & McKinney Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ernest Loreen officiating. Under the direction of Jerns & McKinney Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Gilbert had resided in Ferndale for many years and was a member of the Fundamental Missionary Church. Surviving relatives include one son, George Gilbert of Selah; two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Garrett of Tacoma and Mrs. John Sandwick of Bellingham; three grandchildren and one great grandson. The remains will be received by Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home. GILBERT, Wesley, age 80, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, October 29, (1961). A retired farmer, Mr. Gilbert was a 54 year resident of Whatcom County and was a member of the Seven[th] Day Adventist Church. Private memorial services will be conducted by Pastor P. D. Gerrard Tuesday, October 31 at 9:00 a.m. followed by interment at Enterprise Cemetery.
GILBERTSON, Alice D., age 32 of 1302 E. Maplewood, passed away in an Everett hospital Thursday, July 16, (1964) following an automobile accident. Miss Gilbertson was a 5-year resident of this city, and was a member of the Lutheran Church. She was the Senior Accountant and Office Manage for Harvey Tebrich, CPA. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gilbertson of Quill Lake, Saskatchewan; 1 sister, Mrs. Ann Marte of Seattle. Services will be held Monday, July 20 at 3 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Raymond Pflueger officiating. Burial will follow in Bay View Cemetery.
GILBERTSON, Chester R., age 55, passed away at the family home, 1300 Humboldt Street Monday, Dec. 4, (1961). Mr. Gilbertson was born in Glenwood, Min., where he lived until 17 years ago when he came to Bellingham, and was employed as a master mechanic at the Mt. Baker Plywood. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, and leaves to survive his widow, Sophia, at home; one son, Gerald D. of Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. Noreen A. Bastedenbeck and Mrs. Loretta C. Brozovich, both of Bellingham; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Guy of Palisade, Colo., Walter of Glenwood, Minn., and Orin of Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Johnson of Ferndale, and Mrs. Mary Vik of Cathlamet, Wash., also many nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Pastor Obed L. G. Vold, Friday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. Final resting place, Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.
GILBERTSON, Ingebord, age 81, of Route 3, Ferndale, passed away Saturday, April 23, (1955) in a local hospital, following an extended illness. Mrs. Gilbertson had been a resident of Whatcom County the past 10 years, and was a member of the Barsness Lutheran Church of Glenwood, Minn. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Vik, Cathlamet, Mrs. Inez Johnson, Ferndale; four sons; Chester, Bellingham, Orin, Peublo, Colo., Guy, Palisade, Colo., Walter, Glenwood, Minn.; three sisters, Miss Amelia Jorgensen and Mrs. Julia Berge, both of Starbuck, Minn., Mrs. Carrie stone, Kloten, N.D.; two brothers, Ole and Jorgen Jorgensen, Starbuck, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Private services were held Monday, April 25, at the Monroe Funeral Chapel in Ferndale with Rev. O. A. Jacobson officiating. The remains are being forwarded to Glenwood, Minn., for interment.
GILBERTSON, Sofia passed away in Bellingham on Sunday, March 2, 2008. She was 100, born October 3, 1907 in Glenwood, Minnesota. Private family services will be held. Moles Greenacres Funeral Home, Memorial Park, and On-site Crematory.
