LANG, Barbara J., age 25, who resided at 4103 S. Bay Dr., Sedro Woolley near Wickersham, passed away suddenly Mon., Dec. 12, (1977) resulting from an auto accident. She was a student at the Skagit Valley College and has been a resident of the area for the past 11 years. She leaves to survive 2 daughters, Gwen and Jackie Lang of the family residence; her mother, Marie Fuller; 2 sisters, Morales LaConna and Judy Jones; 1 brother, Richard Fuller, all of Calif.; 1 aunt, Mrs. Joanne Fuller of Sedro Woolley. Graveside services will be held Fri., Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. in the Saxon Cemetery under the direction of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home.LANG, Basil A. - Funeral service for Basil A. LANG, Basil F., age 80, 2123 St. Clair Street, passed away in a local sanitarium Saturday, August 24, (1963). Mr. Lang was a twenty-three year resident of this City, where he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad as an engineer prior to retiring. He was a member of the Congregational Church; F.O.E. Aerie No. 204, Wenatchee; Zarthan Lodge No. 148, F.&A.M., and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. Survivors are one son, Basil A. Lang, City; one brother, Reginald Lang, Vancouver, B.C.; one brother and one sister in England, and three grandchildren. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. Don Lamka Wednesday, August 28 at 1:00 p.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.
LANG, David Henry, formerly of Bellingham, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, in Vancouver, Wash. He was 38. Services were held in Vancouver. He was born Oct. 3, 1958, to Ernest and Violet Lang in Flint, Mich. Mr. Lang received a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a master's degree from the University of San Francisco. He worked as a training facilitator for Bank of America. He enjoyed traveling, fine dining, movies and visiting beaches. Survivors include his parents of Bellingham, brother Norman Lang of Swartz Creek, Mich., and sisters Martha DeLeo of Vancouver, Wash., and Carol Jameson of Bay City, Mich.
LANG, Dorothy Florence Weirauch passed away September 9, 2005, at Merrill Gardens at the Garden House in Bellingham, WA, with her family at her bedside, along with the most caring staff employed at Merrill Gardens. Dorothy was born in Bellingham, Washington, on September 11, 1921. Her parents were Arthur and Mary Anne Weirach (sic). They moved the family out to Ferndale, Washington, when Dorothy was five years old. She graduated from Ferndale High School. She married Francis Joseph Lang August 7, 1944, in Bellingham, Washington, and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Dorothy worked for the Whatcom County Assessor's office for 21 years, and retired 20 years ago as the Administrative Assistant to the Assessor. Dorothy had a passion for traveling when she retired, traveling all over the world. She enjoyed putting photo albums and scrapbooks together of each trip that she took. She and Francis also shared a passion for flower gardening. Dorothy enjoyed hiking with the Bellingham Senior Activity Center, and said that she had hiked almost all over Whatcom County over the years. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Francis Joseph Lang, of the family home; their nephew, Landrum Wise and his wife of Houston, Texas; their niece, Constance Stoner Wise of Minneapolis, Minnesota; along with the Peter and Allison Svdein family of Custer, the Mark Abbott family of Lynden, Eldon Abbott and Jon Abbott family of Ferndale. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Greenacres|Mole Cemetery in Ferndale, with Pastor Douglas Iben of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

Mrs. Lang had been a resident of this community for the past 12 years and had attended the Congregational Church; and was a member of the Daughters of America, Loyal Order of Moose, Old Ironsides Club and Leavenworth Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving relatives are her husband, Basil F., at home; one son, Basil A. and one grandchildren, Linda Arlene Lang, all of Bellingham, and one brother, Max Andresen, of Prineville, Ore. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. W. Carl Calhoun and officers of the Daughters of America Wednesday, March 21, at 1:30 p.m. Final resting place, Bay View.
LANG, Frank was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 9, 1916, to an immigrant family, Joseph and Anna Lang. He was the youngest of 8 children. He joined the Navy in 1942, right after Pearl Harbor. Frank was a Navy air navigator on a PV1. He did 2 tours of duty in the Pacific Theater. Frank met and then subsequently married the love of his life, Dorothy Weirauch, on August 7, 1944. Dorothy preceded Frank in death on September 9, 2005, after 61 years of marriage. Frank worked at Union Printing for 20 years and 15 years for Whatcom County. He was passionate about gardening, trains, and planes. He spent a lot of time reading books from the library. Frank and Dorothy purchased their home on Cedarwood Ave. in 1945 and lived their complete life in this home. He is leaving behind his Goddaughter, Allison Svedin and her husband Peter of Custer, WA; niece, Connie Wise Stoner of Mexico; and nephew, Landrum Wise of Texas. Frank will be buried at Moles Greenacres Memorial Park. At his request, no services will be held.

Gordon McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Bayview Cemetery. Mr. Lang of 2700 Electric Ave. died Monday, July 25, 1994. He was 79. Born Aug. 30, 1914, in Vancouver, B.C., he lived in Bellingham for 14 years. He prospected in British Columbia for more that 40 years with his brother, Frank Lang. Mr. Lang married Verna Sommerville on Aug. 31, 1974, in Bellingham. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Survivors include his wife of the family home; step-daughters Doreen Breitenbach of Bellingham and Trudy DePaco of California; step-son Edwin Otta of Princeton, B.C.; brothers Robert M. Lang of Langley, B.C., Glendon L. Lang of Coquitlam, B.C., Wilbert R. Lang of Surrey, B.C., Frank A. Lang of West Vancouver, B.C., James E. Lang of Mission, B.C., and Charles S. Lang of Campbell River, B.C.
LANG, Josephine M., age 72, who resided at 311 Carolina St., passed away November 26, (1966). A lifetime resident of Bellingham, she was a retired bookkeeper for Farley Feed and Clark's Feed. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption. She leaves to survive her husband, Edward R., of Bellingham; 1 son, Robert J., of California; 1 niece, Mrs. Edward Velemirovich of Kirkland, Wash. Christian Prayer services were held Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home. LANG, Mary E., age 75 of 3327 Northwest Ave. passed away in B'ham Fri. July 21, (1989). She was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Nelson, Lincashire, England. She moved to the U.S. in 1923 and came to B'ham in June 1986. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, enjoyed handywork, crafts, and was an archer. She worked in the aircraft industry after WWII. She is survived by one son Frank Lang of B'ham; sister Jan O'Brien of Bullhead City, AZ and 2 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 7 p.m. Wed. July 26, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Steve Sallis officiating, and burial will be Thursday at Bayview Cemetery, under the direction of Jerns LeVeck Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
LANG, Michael, 84 of Bellingham, former Burlington resident, died Fri. April 10, 1981 in a Bellingham nursing home. He was born June 30, 1896 in Molodia, Austria & came to Manitoba, Canada as a young child. Mr. Lang moved to Wash. in 1916 & has resided in Burlington from 1945 until moving to Bellingham in 1967. His marriage to Aurora Needham took place Oct. 1, 1697 in Bellingham. He was employed by the Great Northern Railroad as a Section Foreman retiring in 1962. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, Local No. 1423, Everett. Surviving are his wife Aurora, at home; 1 daughter Ivy Colouzis, Burlington; 5 sons, George Lang, Arlington; Lloyd Lang, Samish Island; William Lang, Alger; Harry Lang, Mt. Vernon; Wilfred Lang, Spokane; 2 step-sons, Delbert & Lloyd Needham, both Bellingham; 2 sisters, Amelia Brinsley, Victoria, B.C. & Annie Sardich, Nelson, B.C.; 1 brother, John Lang, Vancouver, B.C.; 22 grandchildren & numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert & Edward Lang. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wed. April 15, at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington. LANG, Thelma Valerie, died Sept. 4, (1994) in a local nursing home after a short illness. She was born on June 26, 1907 in Grand Forks, B.C., Canada, daughter of Petrina Fredricks and Andrew Stendal. She was preceded in death by her husband A. J. Lang and her eight brothers & sisters. She was a 1930 graduate of WWU and taught school at Sauk, WA. Mrs. Lang lived for many years at Lake Samish, where she loved her garden, fishing and swimming. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Sharon & Robert Johnson of Clearwater, FL; 2 granddaughters, Lee Ayn Dyer of Tacoma and Robin Johnson of Tucson, AZ and 2 great-grandchildren, Katherine and Christopher Beglin of Tucson, AZ; three nieces and one nephew, Joan Alderson of Olga, WA, Shirley Murty of Sedona, AZ, Alice Mary McCurdy of Kittery Point, Maine and Ray Johnson of Bellingham. LANGAN, Gertrude E., age 64 years, of 1509 Marine Drive, passed away at the home of her daughter Saturday, February 21, (1948) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Langan had been a resident of Bellingham the past 11 years. She is survived by one son, Richard L. of Seattle; three daughters, Mrs. Q. D. Fox, Mrs. Bonnie Gibson and Mrs. Charles Doucette, all of the city; also nine grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Root, of Seattle, and one sister, Mrs. Genevieve Gephart, of the city. Christian Science services will be conducted Tuesday, February 24, at 1 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home followed by cremation.
LANGDON, Hiram, age 90 years, 210 North Commercial Street, passed away at a local hospital, Saturday, December 25, (1948) following a lingering illness. Mr. Langdon had been a resident of Whatcom County for about sixty years and served on the Bellingham police force from 1900 to 1913. Surviving relatives include one son, Lynn Langdon, Seattle; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Hood, Los Angeles, Mrs. Edith Foster, Lummi Island, and Mrs. Ethel Langdon, Bellingham; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, also one brother, Mr. Edwin Langdon, Port Angeles, Wash. LANGE, Henrietta "Rita" age 84, formerly of 724 Loomis Trail Rd., Lynden passed away in Lynden, Tuesday, Sept. 4, 1984. She was born in Holland on November 11, 1899 & moved to Whatcom County with her husband Gus from Alberta in 1925. They were married on December 6, 1920 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Mr. Lange died in 1953. She had attended Sunrise Baptist Church & was also a member of the Pinochle Club in Lynden. She is survived by 2 sons, William & wife Mildred of Sumas & Robert & wife Janet of Lynden; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia & husband Ed Ruckey of Bellingham; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dena Johnson & Mrs. Jo & husband Henry Dykstra, both of Lynden; a brother, John Robbelink of Monarch, Alberta; numerous nieces & nephews. LANGE, Herman A., age 64, of 1605 J Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Aug. 11, (1953). Mr. Lange had been a 63-year resident of this community and for 42 years had been employed as an engineer for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad. Deceased was a member of the Lutheran Church and Whatcom Lodge No. 151, F&A.M. Surviving relatives are his widow, Rovella, at home; two brothers, Frank H. of Route 3, Bellingham, and Paul F., of Seattle, and one sister, Mrs. Geo. L. Sprattler, of Kansas City, Mo. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where Masonic services will be conducted by the officers of Whatcom Lodge No. 151, Thursday, August 13, at 3 p.m. Interment to follow.
LANGE, Lila G., age 85, passed away in a local hospital, Tues., June 10, 1980. She had been a resident of the Everson area since 1902, and was a retired elevator operator at Wahl's Department Store. She is survived by 1 daughter & son-in-law, Maxine & Harry Scalf of Bellingham. The remains were cared for by the Veroske, Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel. LANGE, Mark Andrew passed away Sunday, September 2, 2007 after a 2-1/2 year vigorous battle with cancer of the liver. Mark was born August 17, 1956 to Darlene and Fred Lange in Bellingham, WA. He was raised in Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1974 and was student body president his senior year and participated in Boy's State in Pullman. He loved participating in football and track in his high school years and always was a believer in fitness. Mark graduated from Western Washington University in 1978 with a BA degree in Political Science and graduated from Willamette University Law School in 1981 with a Juris Doctor degree and was a member of Law Review. Mark practiced Law in California, Oregon and Washington until he was forced to retire because of his illness. Mark had a very keen and innovative mind that made him successful in whatever field he chose to participate. He loved participating in political campaigns knowing that utilizing management and strategy successfully was a must for winning elections. Mark was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks #1604 and Bar Associations in California, Oregon and Washington. Mark is survived by his parents Darlene and Fred Lange of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Brett and wife Tami of Camano Island, Scott and wife Barb of Seattle. He is also survived by a very special niece, Taylor Lange and very special nephew, David Lange both of Burlington. His grandmothers Marie Padovan of Mount Vernon, Christine Lange of Puyallup; aunts, Judy and Janet Setina of Olympia and Rivkah Lange of Parkland; and uncles Terry Setina of Olympia and Chris Lange of North Bend also survive him, as well as many wonderful cousins throughout the northwest. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Althea Lange Setina and grandfathers Frederick Lange, Sr., John R. Setina and Andy Padovan. There will be a Celebration of Life for all of his friends and relatives on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge. Mark's family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Pforte, Dr. Halsey and Dr. Raish and their staffs, Life Care Center of Mount Vernon and to Skagit Hospice for their wonderful support.

He was born in Bellingham and was a Kendall resident for many years. He was a veteran of World War I, and he retired from Bonneville Power Administration in 1964. He was a 62-year member of Fidelity Lodge, No. 105, F&AM; a member of Columbia Power Post, No. 120 of the American Legion and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clytia, in 1979. He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Scalf of Bellingham and several nieces and nephews. At his request there was no funeral. There was a cremation under the direction of Jerns & LeVeck Funeral Chapel ad Crematorium with his final resting place at Bay View Cemetery.
(From The Lynden Tribune, Oct. 27, 1982)LANGE, Robert John, age 72 of Lynden, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home during a gathering of family and friends on July 4, 2002. Robert was born January 7, 1930 to Gustave and Henrietta (Hobblink) Lange. They moved to Lynden when he was six months old. Robert graduated from Lynden High School in 1947 and married Janet Q. E. Hicks in 1950. He worked at the Lynden Post Office as a city carrier for 15 years, and then as a rural mail carrier for 18 years before retiring in 1988. Robert liked to fish, hunt, garden and spend time with his family. He taught Sunday school class at Sunrise Baptist church where he also served on the deacon board. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home Tuesday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. followed by a private family graveside service at Greenacres Memorial Park. Memorial services will be held at Sunrise Baptist Church 3:00 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jon Aldrich officiating.

Mr. Lange had been a resident of Bellingham for many years, and was a retired Railroad man and had been a janitor in the Bellingham schools for a number of years. Surviving relatives include two brothers, William and Herman, both in Stillwater, Minn. LANGE, William T., age 63 years, of Route 2, Bellingham, passed away at Port Angeles Hospital, Tuesday, July 29, (1952) following a lingering illness. Mr. Lange had been a resident of the community for the past 50 years and was a well-known dairy farmer. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two daughters, Mrs. Frieda Higgerson, of Port Angeles, and Mrs. Ernestine Hill, of Bellingham; one son, Harry W. Lange, of Bellingham; four step-sons, Larry E. Swann, of Chile, South America; Albert J. Swann, of Ephrata, Wash., Doyle W. and Howard D. Swann, both of Bellingham; one sister, Mrs. Frieda Koerner, Bellingham; and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 4th, at 2 p.m. within the Cathedral Chapel of the Westford-Beck Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar A. Jacobson, pastor of the Central Lutheran Church officiating. Interment, Bay View Cemetery.
LANGELL, Abbie M., age 84, of Eastsound, Orca Island, passed away in Anacortes Saturday, April 23, (1966). A resident of Anacortes for the past 3 1/2 years, Mrs. Langell had resided at Eastsound for 52 years. Survivors include a son, Sheldon Brooks, Tacoma; a daughter, Mrs. Jane T. Walker, Tacoma; a brother, W. K. Sheldon, Jr., Ollala, Wash., five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Memorial services are pending in Anacortes. LANGELL, Arthur B., age 81, of East Sound, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, January 25, (1964). Mr. Langell was a lifetime resident of East Sound, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church at East Sound. Survivors are his widow, Ruby C., at home; one brother, Wesley Langell, East Sound and one sister, Mrs. John Croft of Gold Bar. LANGER, Paul W., 74, 505 W. Bakerview Road, died Monday (March 10, 1986) in Bellingham. He was born July 18, 1911, in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Langer had been a Bellingham resident for three years. Survivors include his wife, Wilma; two sons; and two grandchildren. At his request, there will be no funeral services.
LANGFORD, James Russell, 77, of Bellingham died Monday (June 8, 1987). He was born Dec. 31, 1909, in Winnipeg, Canada, and was a resident of Bellingham for 30 years after moving here from Abbotsford, B.C. Survivors include his wife, Hilda; two sons, Jim and Dave Langford, all of Bellingham; one daughter, Naomi Fischer of Clearbrook, B.C.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. LANGHORN, Borge T. - No services will be held for Borge T. Langhorn of Sumas. Interment will be at Sumas Cemetery. Mr. Langhorn died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, in Bellingham. He was 91. Born May 10, 1908, in Copenhagen, Denmark, he moved to the United States in 1929 and had been a Sumas resident since August. Mr. Langhorn married Etta Sternberg. Mr. Langhorn worked as a machinist for Westinghouse of Sunnyvale, Calif., for 40 years. Survivors include his ex-wife of Rogue River, Ore. son Eugene Langhorn of Sumas many brothers and sisters in Denmark eight grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. LANGHORN, Marlene Joy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on June 5, 2007, after a year-long illness. She was born August 1, 1935 in Wisner, Nebraska, raised in Bremerton, WA and graduated from the University of Washington where she received a BA in education. Marlene married the love of her life, Jack Langhorn, in 1958. Together they raised 2 children, Debbie and Curtis, in Bellingham. She was an elementary school teacher in the State of Washington for 34 years. This was a career that she thoroughly enjoyed. Marlene's favorite things included spending time with her family and friends, cheering on her grandchildren at their special events, traveling the world, taking an active part at Faith Lutheran church where she volunteered her time and enjoyed singing in the choir, entertaining at home, needlework, cooking and shopping. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, and ADK. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Curtis. Marlene is survived by her loving and devoted husband Jack of 49 years; her daughter Debbie and grandchildren Nate and Adam Gwaltney; and her grandchildren Derek, Mallory and Riley Langhorn. She is also survived by her sister Karen Frey and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Marlene will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She had a loving and generous heart that touched everyone who knew her. We are grateful for the love and support that Hospice, Faith Lutheran Church, family and dear friends have provided during this very difficult time. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12.

LANGLEY, Genevieve Louise died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Bellingham. Mrs. Langley lived in Whatcom County for seventy years. She was born in Seattle on January 9, 1909 to Frank and Grace (Triplett) Bridge, educated in the Everett schools, and married to James Weston Langley on June 25, 1932. They lived briefly in Seattle and in Blaine during his employment with the State Banking Department. They lived over twenty-six years in Sumas and in Bellingham since 1959. Mrs. Langley was an active member of the First Baptist Church, and the Bellingham Golf and Country Club, where she had served in earlier years as an officer. She was a long time member of the Dr. Cilley Sword Chapter of the American Cancer Society. The Children's Medical Center, the Lighthouse Mission, Salvation Army, and other local charities were of concern to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her three brothers. Mrs. Langley is survived by her sons and their families, David and Joyce Langley of Bellingham, Neal and Mary Langley of Midland, Michigan, Bruce and Lynn Langley of Birch Bay Village 12 grandchildren 23 great-grandchildren three nieces and many dear friends. We have shared her love and grace, and her confident faith in the promises of our Lord Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bellingham at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, with private inurnment at Greenacres|Moles Cemetery. LANGLEY, James W. (Wes), 83, of 917 10th St., Apt. 3, Bellingham, passed away in Bellingham on Friday, Sept. 28, 1990. Wes was born in Colton, Wash. on Aug. 28, 1907, the only child of Roy and Bell langley. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gen, and three sons: David and wife Joyce of Renton; Neal and wife Mary of Midland, Mich.; Bruce and wife Lynn of Seattle. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was in the banking business in Whatcom County for many years; he was president of The Bank of Sumas for 25 years and then involved in the formation and management of Northwestern Commercial Bank in Bellingham. In addition to golf, he was interested in many out door activities: hunting, fishing, boating and a variety of local sports. He was past president of the Bellingham Golf & Country club and the Washington State Seniors' Golf Association. LANGLITZ, Eldred John - A memorial service for the Rev. E. John Langlitz, former rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bellingham, Will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island. Officiating will be the Rt. Rev. Vincent Warner, bishop of the Dioceses of Olympia; the Rev. William Maxwell, retired dean of St. Mark's Cathedral, Salt Lake City; the Rev. Joseph Tierman, rector of St. Barnabas; and the Rev. Bryan Jones, publicity director of the Mental Health Association, Los Angeles County. Langlitz, a retired Episcopal priest, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1993, at his home in Indianola. He was 66. He was rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 1980 until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Indianola, where he conducted services at St. Paul's in Port Gamble.
Born May 10, 1927, in St. Louis, he held a bachelor's and a master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a master of divinity degree from Seabury-Western Episcopal Seminary in Evanston, Ill. He married Ann Stremler of Seattle on Nov. 18, 1949. Langlitz taught and was principal at Maryland Heights High School in Creve Cour, Mo., after graduating from Washington University. After completing seminary, he was vicar of two missions in rural Missouri and then rector of St. Augustine's and Holy Communion Episcopal churches in St. Louis. He was responsible for the first, non-violent confrontation with black militants on June 20, 1969, when he was at Holy Communion Church. Langlitz invited the militants to speak in the church about their demands and would not allow police to enter. In other churches in the area, the militants were dragged out of buildings by police. Langlitz was actively involved in establishing neighborhood association to peacefully integrate St. Louis suburbs, and was a co-founder of the Judeo-Christian Institute in St. Louis. From 1971 to 1980, he was rector of all Saints in Salt Lake City. While there, he helped found Hospice of Utah. A major focus of his ministry in Missouri and Utah was support and counsel for the gay communities. He taught homiletics at the College of Preachers at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. He also was an adjunct professor at the school of Theology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver while he was rector in Bellingham. He was recognized as a scholar in the field of process theology. Langlitz also was a member of Grace Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Gretchen Langlitz of Tampa, Fla., Christina Beard of Bellevue, Lisa Stevens of Vancouver, Wash., and Katherine Sedwick of Redmond; and 11 grandchildren.
LANGNER, Arnie of Ferndale died at home of Lou Gehrig's Disease Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997. He was 67. A memorial celebration was held at the family home Sunday. Born July 7, 1930, to Christian and Sophia Dodge Langner in Terril, Iowa, he graduated from Hayes Township High School. Mr. Langner received under graduate and post graduate degrees from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. He married Angela Duenas in 1971. Mr. Langner was an ordained elder in the Methodist Church and served as student minister in churches in Iowa and Nebraska. He also served as chaplain for Colorado State Division of Youth Services and Adult Corrections. After moving to Whatcom County in 1985, Mr. Langner facilitated the Grief Support Group for Hospice of Whatcom County. He was a fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wayne, Ralph, Lowell and Clair and sister Ellen. Survivors include his wife of the family home; son Lynn Langner of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters Christine Rasmussen, Arnice Langner of Lakewood and Bonny Huschka of Buena Vista, Colo.; brother Gladwyn of Storm Lake, Iowa; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

"Cornie" Langstraat, age 74, 100 Front St., Lynden, were conducted on Monday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. in First Reformed Church, with Rev. Dick Vriesman officiating. Burial preceded in Monumenta Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Mr. Langstraat, who died at his home suddenly on Friday, Sept. 6, (1985) was born in Newkirk, Iowa, on Jan. 20, 1911. He was married to Stella Dykstra in Hospers, Iowa, on March 3, 1938, and shortly threreafter moved to the Lynden area. Mr. Langstraat was a retired tractor mechanic and had been employed at Farmers Equipment in Lynden for 33 years. He was a member of First Reformed church, where he had served as an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife, Stella; a son, Bill and wife Lynnette of Bellingham; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria and husband Rev. Jon Norton of Spring Valley, New York, and Mrs. Linda and husband LeRoy Witman of Everson; five grandchildren; four brothers, Dick Langstraat and wife Minnie, and Pete Langstraat, all of Orange City, Iowa, John Langstraat and wife Ida, and Howard Langstraat and wife Joy, all of Sibley, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Angeline Torrenga of Clinton, Wis. and Mrs. Jennie and husband Gene Vande Brake of Maurice, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon Van Oostenburg officiating. Graveside services preceded in Monumenta Cemetery at 11 a.m. Mr. Langstraat, of 201 9th Street, Lynden, was born in Sheldon, Iowa and first came to Lynden in 1937. He worked for many years as a blacksmith and electrician before being a custodian at the Lynden Elementary School for ten years. He then moved to Quincy where he farmed for ten years and then returned to Lynden in 1976. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Lynden and was married to Tracie Dykstra in Sheldon on May 18, 1933. He is survived by his wife, Tracie; two sons, Harlan and wife Lana of Lynden, and Kendall and wife Betty of Ridgefield, Conn.; three daughters, Anita Jongeneel of Lynnwood, Mrs. Gracia and husband Bob Fuher of Spokane, and Mrs. Pam and husband Bob Dykes of Lynden; nine grand and two great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers in Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday in Monumenta Cemetery, followed by a memorial funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in the First Reformed Church in Lynden with Pastor Marc deWaard officiating. Mrs. Langstraat died at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden on Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997. She was 88. The daughter of Klaas and Grace (Hulst) Dykstra, Mrs. Lanstraat (sic) was born in Hospers, Iowa, on Feb. 14, 1909. She grew up there and later married Cornelius Langstraat on March 11, 1938. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the Everson area and then to Lynden in 1945. She was a charter member of the Nooksack Valley Reformed Church and then the First Reformed Church in Lynden. Mrs. Langstraat was a professional seamstress and enjoyed gardening and singing in the Lynden Senior Center Choir. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; an infant daughter, Virginia; brothers Ben and Henry Dykstra; and sister Margaret VanZee. Survivors include her son Bill Langstraat of Bellingham; daughters Gloria Norton of River Edge, N. J., and Linda Witman of Everson; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Tracie Langstraat, Anna Assink, Ramona Noteboom and Wilma Langstraat, all of Lynden, and Marie Smith of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are under the direction of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

He had been a resident of Whatcom County for the past 18 years and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. LANHAM, Mary Helen Powell of 2600 Pacific St. died Monday, Nov. 21, 1994, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was 66. Born July 11, 1928, to Joseph Cahoun and Eva Grey Powell in Blakely, Ga., she lived in Alabama and Georgia for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and artist. She made quilts and clothing and enjoyed painting. Mrs. Lanham also lived in Folsom, Calif., where she worked at the Folsom Food Bank for more than 10 years. She was a member of the Folsom Southern Baptist Church, where she served as the women's president for many years. She moved to Bellingham in 1992. Survivors include her husband, Robert "Joe Fan" Lanham, of the family home; daughter Mary Lanham-Klinker of Glenhaven Lakes; and sister Thera Wynona Hunt of Gig Harbor. A private memorial service will be held.
LANIADO, Nadav, 32, Of Los Angeles, Died Saturday In Glacier When a helicopter rotor struck him. He was a commercial film producer. Mr. Laniado was born on June 9, 1958, in Tel Aviv, Israel. LANINGA, Jean, 78, of Lynden, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 5, 1994. A funeral service was held on Tuesday at Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden with Rev. Henry Numan officiating. Burial preceded in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden. Mrs. Laninga was born in the Netherlands on July 8, 1915, a daughter of Harmen and Boelina DeVries Brouwer. In the Netherlands on March 1, 1944, she was married to Klaas Laninga. In 1952, with two small children, they were sponsored by their cousins to (sic) Bouwma's to come to Whatcom County. Jean was a partner and bookkeeper with her husband in their jewelry store, but the family remembers her primary concern as being a loving homemaker. She made bandages for mission organizations and was an expert in needlework, knitting and crocheting doillies for all of her family and friends. She attended Third Christian Reformed Church and was a devoted choir member for many years. Jean is survived by her husband Klaas of Lynden; three sons, Nick Laninga and wife Diana of Lynden, Herman Laninga and wife Ali of Bellingham and Dick Laninga and wife Cheryl of Lynden; daughter Kathy Kok and husband Dan of Custer; sister Ali Wieringa and brother Dirk Brouwer, both of the Netherlands; 11 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Services and arrangements were under the care of Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.

She is survived by three sons, William and Dennis of Lynden and Gerrit of Ferndale; three daughters, Mrs. Cora (Ralph) Visser of Lynden and Mrs. Helen (Maurice) Honcoop also of Lynden and Mrs. Marie VanderPloeg of Bellingham. She is also survived by twenty-four grand and thirty-two great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna DeGroot, Mrs. Lena Combee, Mrs. Jennie Rupke, Mrs. Nellie Honcoop and Mrs. Emma Honcoop all of Lynden and Adriana Honcoop of Bellingham and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.
(From The Lynden Tribune, January 25, 1978)LANKHAAR, Bertha Eversole of Bellingham died early Wednesday morning July 17, 2002 at Cordata Healthcare Center. She was 85. A funeral service for Bertha will take place on Monday July 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden with Rev. Cornilus Rientjes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Bertha was born to Jacob and Bertha (Anhorn) Tschritter on April 2, 1917 in Lodi, CA. She moved with her family to the Everson area when she was twelve. She attended Clearbrook and Lynden Schools. In 1936 Bertha was married to Len Lankhaar. Len and Bertha operated a dairy farm on the Stickney Island Rd. for 17 years before opening the Guide Trading Post in 1957 and the Hilltop restaurant in 1959. Len died in 1973. In 1975 she married Casey DeGroot who died in 1983. She then married Ralph Eversole who died in the early 1990's. She was an avid bowler and once bowled a 300 pin game. She also enjoyed traveling in her motorhome, snowmobiling, gardening, and doing crossword puzzles. Bertha is survived by a son Ken Lankhaar and a daughter Shirley Heflin, both of Bellingham sisters Tillie Taylor of Sedro-Woolley and Linda Dockter of San Leandro, CA six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and a close friend Mitzi. Beside her husbands and parents, she was preceded by three brothers Richard, John, and Jacob Tschritter sisters Donna Stiles, Mary Seifert, Ella Schaefer and Ann Weber-Hardie and a son Leonard Lankhaar. Bertha's family would like to thank the staff of Cordata Health Care and Hospice of Whatcom Co. for their support and loving care. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.

Park St., Lynden, with Pastors Delaine Bailey and William Thompson officiating. Burial will precede in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden at 10 a.m. He passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 1992 in Seattle. Mr. Lankhaar was born in Lynden on Feb. 18, 1923, the son of Gilbert and Jeanette Lankhaar. He attended Lynden schools and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His aircraft was shot down over Austria. With the help of the underground, he was back in Allied territory in 30 days. Mr. Lankhaar owned and operated Lankhaar Furniture and Upholstery, where Alsum and Bode Furniture is now located in Lynden. In 1972 he moved to Casa Grande, Ariz. where he resided until returning to Lynden in September of last year. He had attended Grace Baptist Church in Lynden. He is survived by two sons, Delbert of Casa Grande, Ariz. and Ronald and wife Sue of Wahiawa, Hawaii; two daughters, Linda and husband Bill Bode and Gloria and husband Steve Curl, all of Lynden; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Len Lankhaar and wife Catherine of Quincy; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lena (VanderPloeg) in 1961, his parents, a brother, Foster Lankhaar, and a sister, Lydia Lankhaar. Visitation hours will be until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gillies Funeral Home, 202 Front St., Lynden. Services are under the care of Gillies Funeral Home, Lynden.

Mrs. Lankhaar was preceded in death by her husband, John, in Lynden in 1960. The couple had lived in Lynden for about 10 years. After his passing, Mrs. Lankhaar moved to Victoria. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Felton of Victoria; a granddaughter, Mrs. Lynden Hart, also of Victoria; and various nieces and nephews in the Lynden area.
LANKHAAR, Foster J. - Funeral service for Mr. Foster J. Lankhaar, age 64, who died in Bellingham on Friday, Feb. 28, (1986) were conducted on Wednesday, March 5, at 1 p.m. in the Grace Baptist Tabernacle, with Mr. Casper Van Wetering officiating. Burial followed in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Lankhaar, 1005 Johnson St., Sumas, was born in Lynden on Oct. 29, 1921, and had been a lifetime county resident. He owned and operated Lankhaar Farms, a dairy and hay brokerage business, near Sumas for many years. He was a member of the Lynden Gospel Hall and during World War II served in the U.S. Army. He was married to Phyllis Bouma in Lynden on July 21, 1949. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three sons, James and wife Cyndy, Dale and wife Lisa, and Wayne, all of Sumas; five daughters, Janice Vander Heiden of Everson; Mrs. Sharlene and husband Paul Kenner, and Mrs. Sharon and husband Kevin Sletvik, all of Lynden; Nancy Lankhaar of Blaine and Darlene Lankhaar at home; 10 grandchildren, two brothers, Cornie Lankhaar of Elroy, Ariz., and Leonard and wife Katherine Lankhaar of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia Lankhaar, in 1980. Funeral services were under the direction of Gillies Funereal Home, Lynden.
(From The Lynden Tribune, March 5, 1986)LANKHAAR, Gerrit, 72, 2470 Douglas Road, Ferndale, passed away Friday, July 23, 1993 at his home. He was born June 19, 1921 at Everson to Walter and Alice Honcoop Lankhaar. He was a lifelong resident of Whatcom County. His first farm was in the Lynden area, but later he moved to Ferndale, where he bought the original Douglas Place on Douglas Road. He was a respected and successful dairy farmer. After his retirement and in his later years he became a well-known cattle dealer. All his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 194 and Moose Lodge No. 493, both of Bellingham. He married Dorothy Malpass on July 27, 1950 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She survives him at the family home. He also is survived by two daughters, Kathaleen Lankhaar and Barbara and husband Walter Rockwell, all of Ferndale; son Donald and wife Dee Lankhaar of Ferndale; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Helen and husband Maurice Honcoop and Cora and husband Ralph Visser, all of Lynden; two brothers, William and wife Agnes Lankhaar and Dennis and wife Barbara Lankhaar, all of Lynden and numerous other relatives. A funeral service was held this morning at Good News Fellowship Church with Rev. Harold E. Schroeder officiating. Entombment followed at Greenacres Memorial Park Mausoleum. Arrangements were entrusted to Moles Funeral Home, Ferndale.

LANNING, Myrtle A. - Homemaker Myrtle A. Lanning, 74, of Friday Harbor, died Sunday in a Bellingham nursing home. Arrangements are by Whatcom Cremation Association. At her request, there will be no services. Mrs. Lanning was born May 4, 1913, in North Dakota. Survivors include husband Tony of Friday Harbor; a daughter, Mary Wright of Quanitco, Va.; a son, William Lanning of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Mary Sullivan of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and a brother, Harold Brown of Los Altos, Calif.
LANPHEAR, C. R. (Dick), age 69 years, of 605 High Street, passed away in a Seattle hospital following a lengthy illness Saturday, June 6, (1959). Mr. Lanphear had been a resident of this community for 23 years and prior to his retirement in 1954 had been associated with the Chicago-Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad for 45 years. He was a member and past president of the Bellingham Rotary Club and during his residence in Bellingham had been very active in civic affairs. Surviving is his sister, Miss Sarah E. Lanphear of Phoenix, Arizona; also many cousins in the Seattle-Tacoma area. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 8, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. LANT, Harold - A graveside service for Harold Lant of Bellingham will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Bayview Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Jones-Moles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Drew officiating. Mr. Lant of 516 Bayside Road died Thursday, Nov. 10, 1994, at home. He was 86. Born July 8, 1908, to John and Laticia Davis Lant in Garland, Utah, he moved to Bellingham in 1925 and graduated from Whatcom High School in 1926. He also graduated from the University Washington and the University of Washington Law School. Mr. Lant became a partner in the law firm of Abbott, Lant and Fleeson in Bellingham in 1932. He was a member of the Washington State bar Association and served on its board of governors from 1950 to 1953. He also was a member of the American Bar Association and a member and former president of the Whatcom County Bar Association. He was a member of the College of Trust and Estate council and was a former trustee of the Washington Law School Alumni Association, as well at the Phi Delta Phi (legal) fraternity. He also was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mr. Lant served as chairman of Whatcom County Republicans from 1940 to 1944. He was a Republican state committeeman and a former member of the Whatcom Museum of History and Art board. He was a former member of the Mount Baker Area Council of Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts. He was a former president of Rotary and a former exalted ruler of the Elks. He was a former president of the University Club and a former member of the Bellingham Yacht Club and Bellingham Golf and Country Club. He also was a member of the Hobby Club and the Washington Athletic Club. Survivors include his wife, Lyla J. Lant, of the family home; daughter Patricia Dee Grenfell of Sedro-Woolley; son Harold Stephen Lant of Poulsbo; sisters Irma Tyson of Sun City, Ariz., Nancy Manlove of Mapleton, Utah, and Leeta Wilson of Payson, Utah; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
LANT, Lyla Jeanette, age 94, passed away Oct. 4, 2006 at her home in Bellingham. She was born March 13, 1912 to Sherman and Clara (Martinson) Strand in Friday Harbor, where she spent her first 6 years. The family then moved to Bellingham where she has lived ever since. Lyla married Harold Lant in 1936. She was a member of the Frances Larrabee Garden Club, Women of Rotary, Bellingham Golf & Country Club, Bellingham Yacht Club, and Garden Street United Methodist Church. She was a Docent for the Whatcom Museum of History & Art and loved to dance at the "30 and 6" and Comus dance clubs. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining and planning family reunions. She was preceded in death by husband Harold in 1994. She is survived by daughter Pat (husband Jim) Grenfell of Sedro-Woolley, son Steve (wife Linda) Lant of Poulsbo, granddaughter Julie Grenfell of Mount Vernon, grandson Ryan (wife Tracy) Lant of Incline Village, NV and their children Cody and Sam, brother Carroll (wife VeNita) Baker of Orange, CA, and special step-grand and great-grandchildren. LANTIS, Donald Dwayne, age 30 of Bellingham, passed away November 23, 1998 at Sunrise Care Center. Mr. Lantis was born December 23, 1967 in Boulder, Colorado to Ivan and Carolyn (Schreier) Lantis. Don grew up in Ferndale and attended school in Ferndale. He was owner/operator of the ACE RV and Mobile Home Service and was greatly appreciated by his customers. He would do many things for his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, uncle Marvin Lantis, his mother Carolyn Lantis and brother Martin Lantis. Survivors are his father, Ivan Lantis, of Bellingham; brothers: Gary and wife Karen Lantis of Bellingham; Dave and wife Judy Lantis of Bellingham; sister Shirley and husband Keith Beard of Birch Bay; uncles Larry and his wife Norma Schreier of Nebraska and Ralph Chandler of Ferndale; aunt Charlotte Chandler of Ferndale and Charlene and husband Tim Stapp of Colorado; five nieces and two nephews. In his professional life, Ike founded Bestway Mobile Homes and later worked as a Recycling Technician. He was known for making friends easily and those who knew him surely remember that phrase that followed every story Ike told: "Do ya know what I mean?" Ike was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers. He will also be reunited with his wife Carolyn and sons Marty and Donnie. Survivors include daughter Shirley Beard and son Gary Lantis. Also surviving are numerous grand-children, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. Lantis of Bellingham will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jerns-LeVeck Funeral Chapel, followed by burial in Enterprise Cemetery. Mr. Lantis of 5255 Byers Road died of a heart attack Saturday, Sept. 3, 1994, at his home. He was 36. Born Jan. 22, 1958, to Ivan and Carolyn Schreier Lantis in Wheatland, Wyo., he moved to Whatcom County in 1969. Survivors include his daughters, Kristina and Melissa Lantis of Renton; father Ivan Lantis of Bellingham; brothers Gary Lantis of Ferndale and Don Lantis of Bellingham; sister Shirley Beard of Birch Bay; and numerous other relatives.

LANTRIP, Randall J. was born March 25, 1964 in Bakersfield, CA to Harry W. Lantrip and Shirley L. Agee-Lantrip. He passed away the morning of September 21, 2006 at St. Francis Extended Care in Bellingham. Randy, as he was fondly called, grew up and attended school in Kent, WA. He attended Green River and Highline Community Colleges before getting to the Bellingham area to attend and complete some computer science related courses at Western Washington University. Randy served six years in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1988. Randy was a resident of Whatcom County/Bellingham for the rest of his life, working a few places in the area until he settled into a job assisting with creative landscape installation and construction work for the last seven years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford and mother, Shirley Agee-Lantrip. Randy is survived by his father, Harry Lantrip and stepmother Catherine Oslin-Lantrip of Seattle; brothers Douglas Lantrip of Lafayette IN, Jeffrey Lantrip; sister-in-law Carrie Gordon-Lantrip; nephews Joseph, Frankie, Isaac and Gilbert of Enumclaw, WA. Randy also made a big impact on the local hobby/war-gaming clubs, creating games of his own and continually showing everyone his creative and artistic talents. A private Graveside Service will be held. Randy will be laid to rest at a local cemetery in the military veteran's area. A Memorial Service will be held at Good News Fellowship Church in Ferndale at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2006.
(From The Bellingham Herald, 24 Sep 2006) Submitted by Merrily Lawson.LANTZ, Ann Lee, age 71, of 1443 Rosser Rd., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Oct. 19, (1961). A 21-year resident of Bellingham, Mrs. Lantz leaves to survive her husband, Clinton D., at home, and one brother, Barney Allfree, of Bellingham. Private services were conducted at the Jones Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m., followed by cremation.
LANTZ, Clinton D., age 81 of 1443 Rosser Rd., passed away at home on Thursday, Sept. 27, (1962). Mr. Lantz had resided in Whatcom County for the past 24 years and was a retired electrical engineer for the General Electric Co., and a charter member of Sigma Chi of the University of Washington. Services are pending at the Jones Funeral Home.
LANUM, Harry Edward, age 76, of 1311 State Street, passed away at home on Saturday, Sept. 22nd, (1962). Mr. Lanum had resided in this community for the past sixty years, was a retired Grocery Salesman, and a member of the Eureka Methodist Church. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Dr. Ritchie Ocheltree on Wednesday, Sept. 25th at 9:00 a.m. Final resting place Bay View Cemetery.
LANUM, James Don of Bellingham died Friday, Nov. 17, 1995, at Shuksan Convalescent Center. He was 67. No service will be held. He was born July 1, 1928, in Rabid Hill, W. Va. Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home and Crematorium.
