On Christmas Eve in 1859, German Lutheran Missionary Moritz Braueninger and others decorated the first Christmas tree in Wyoming while wintering at Deer Creek Station (near present day Glenrock, WY). The following spring, Braueninger established a mission near the Dry Fork of the Powder River east of Kaycee.
