Dorothy Dalton Helms Stuart, Patrick County VA Dorothy Dalton Helms, 95, of Stuart, a resident of the Landmark Center, died Sunday, October 18, 2009. at Blue Ridge Nursing Center. A Patrick County native, she was the daughter of the late Willis Dalton and Carrie Frazier Dalton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edd Helms; five brothers, Neil, Mylo, Paul, Ben and Wayne Dalton; and three sisters, Gertie Lawson, Flora Clark and Ruth Rodgers. She was a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir. For many years, she volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital, and served as a registrar at the voting precinct in Patrick County. She and her husband operated Helms Apple Orchard for over 30 years before their retirement. Surviving are her daughter, Ruby Helms Guevara of Mountain Top, Pa; one foster son, Buddy Handy and wife Becky of High Point, N.C.; one grandson, Thomas E. Purves and wife Teresa of Chester; one granddaughter, Rita P. Hall and husband Fred of Drums, Pa; four great-grandchildren, Brad Purves of Satsuma, Fla., Chuck Hall of Norfolk, Cissy Vaughan of Petersburg, and J.T. Hall of Drums, Pa.; and two great-great-grandchildren, Dalton Purves and Dylan Vaughan; a devoted friend, Betty Lou Clark of Stuart and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
