The body of Gladys Peyton, 27 year old negress was found this morning about 4:45 o'clock on the Norfolk and Western crossing at Valley Street by the yard crew.
The woman, wife of Dave Peyton, resident of Maple Street, was found lying between the rails on the main line. Her left leg had been broken, her shoes were gone, a hand was torn badly and she had bruises and cuts about her face and head.
Dr. R.F. Thornhill, county coroner, was called by officers and started an investigation into the death. An autopsy is planned at Seagles undertaking establishment during the day.
The woman who weighed over 200 pounds was said by a neighbor to have been deranged for some time. Her husband thought that she was in bed asleep at the time.
Chief J.I. Carper stated Officer Boothe of the night patrol reported having passed the crossing at 4 o'clock and the body was not there at that hour. It is believed the woman was killed by the through train that passes through about 4 o'clock or the switch engine.
The woman is a daughter of Chris Cannaday.

Tuesday, January 30th, 1934
That foul play is suspected in the death of Gladys Peyton, 27 year old negress whose body was found early yesterday morning on the Norfolk and Western crossing at Valley Street was indicated this morning by Chief Carper, head of the Pulaski Police department. Chief Carper exhibited a shoe thought to have been worn by the woman the night she met death. The shoe, the heel apparently caught by something and torn loose, was picked up yesterday morning about 100 feet from where the body was discovered. The Chief of Police stated that he was continuing an investigation and that it had been reported to him that the woman attended a dance with her husband on the night of her death. Dr. Thornhill, county coroner, who planned an autopsy yesterday had not made his report this morning to Chief Carper. It is also understood that the railroad is making an investigation to determine the cause of death.
