NEWPORT BARRACKS-Philip C W Range, a soldier at the Newport Barracks committed suicide night before last about 11 pm by taking a large dose of morphine. He had just reached this city from Wheeling, West Virginia, where he was sent about eight months ago on recruiting services.
Upon returning here, it is said he learned that a young lade to whom he was betrothed had married, which produced such an effect upon his mind as to cause him to commit self destruction. He was buried yesterday with military honors.
