Richard Franklin and Mildred Ann Garrett

 

Richard Garrett was born 20 Nov 1835 in Gloucester County, Virginia. In 1850 he and his brother, William L were living in Grants Lick with the William H W and Elizabeth Luke family, also of Virginia.

In 1854 Richard and William recorded ownership of slaves recorded at the Campbell County Courthouse. The list of enslaved people are here.

Richard met Mildred Ann Byrd, daughter of Foster Washington Byrd and Margaret True Gosney while working in Grants Lick and they married 1 June 1853. On 5 September 1859, Richard signed for the Luke children who were listed as orphans. Richard signed up for the Civil War draft on 1 July 1863.

The Garrett family was still in Grants Lick in the 1880 census, but sometime before 1900, Richard and Mildred moved to Badger Missouri. By 1910 they were living with their daughter Maude in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Richard died 7 May 1914 in Ardmore and was buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore, Carter Co. Oklahoma. Mildred died 20 Feb 1905 in Ardmore and was buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
