Walter Dempsey, druggist, Fifth and Columbia streets, Newport, was presented with a Conner's constable badge at Wednesday's meeting of the Newport Rotary Club. Dempsey was rewarded because of his experience with a bandit several weeks ago. He fired several shots at the man who held up a grocery store at Fifth and Columbia.

Walter Dempsey, 46, druggist, 819 Park av. Newport, was recovering at his home Thursday of bruises received Wednesday night when his auto was struck by a yard engine at Fifth and Saratoga streets, Newport. The car was wrecked. Dempsey was hurled to the street.

Dr. Brown was re-elected to the board while Mr. Cheeseman was named to succeed J W Todd Jr. Other members of the board are Walter C Dempsey, Edward C Rentz, Dr. Claude Youtsey and Dr. J H Caldwell, who are holdovers.

Bonds of five employees of the Newport Drug Store firm of Louis C Widrig Inc. charged with conspiracy to sell and possess denatured alcohol for beverage purposes were set at $500 each. Druggists named are Walter C Dempsey, Louis A Dempsey, Frank A Stratman, Arthur A Poweleit and Robert Jarvis.

Walter Dempsey, Newport druggist paid fines amounting to $2500 for himself, Louis A Dempsey, Frank Stratman, Arthur A Poweleit and Robert Pervis when they entered pleas of guilty to charges of having conspired to sell denatured alcohol under such circumstances as to lead t the deduction that the alcohol had been sold for beverage purposes. They were fined $500 each.
