New Jersey State Census Records

State censues were often taken in years between the federal censuses or "on the fives". They offer researchers the ability to "fill in the gaps" left by missing census schedules. New Jersey began state enumerations in 1855 and end 1915. The 1885 and 1895 censuses are extremely helpful due to the lack of the 1890 U.S. Federal census.
