Ashwood School Entertains

The Ashwood school was entertained with a party in which a good number of the patrons and pupils were present, and all had a lovely time, and went home happy.

The patrons of this school are very highly pleased with the good work Mrs. Delong has performed with the children, not only in studies buy by improving the understanding of the children in educational duties.

Test in Agricultural Class.

On a recent test given the agriculture class of Ashwood school, the question was asked, How would you build and conduct a dairy?

This answer was given by a boy aged 14: "How I would build and conduct a dairy? I would build a cement building with lumber walls that might be opened from every side, so as to let in plenty of sunlight and fresh air. Then I would have the whole building inside and out whitewashed. Every day I would have the walls dusted and the floors scoured. I would keep only thoroughbred Jerseys , keeping a butter record for each cow, so if she did not bring enough profit, I could sell her.

In caring for the cows, I would provide good pastures, with plenty of clean water. Provide good shelter, with the proper food.

Before milking, I would brush the cow all over and wash her udder. And milk at regular times each day.

For the milkmen [I] would employ only clean, healthy men and instruct them to treat the cows kindly.

The milk vessels should be of the sanitary type. Before using they should be scalded. Afterwards I would first use cold water, then scald them and place in the sun. I would keep the milk and butter in a cool, sanitary place safe from dust and flies: for milk is one of the surest "germ carriers."
