Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Maxwell of Houston visited with Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Bump and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Powell this week-end.

Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Butler and girls were shoppers in Bay City Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. G. King and Linda spent Sunday in Houston visiting Mr. and Mrs. David King.

Mrs. C. P. Butler and boys and Mrs. G. L. Heck and Sara Dee visited relatives in Clovis, New Mexico, Lorenzo and Lasbuddy last week.

Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schulte had as their New Year’s dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowger and children, Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Terry and Mr. and Mrs. L. Hester, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Logan and Miss Mary Manley, Mrs. Danna Logan and John Logan.

Miss Betty Gene Matthes has returned to Nurse’s Training in Houston after spending the holidays with her father, Mr. F. E. Matthes.

Mr. “Buddie” Schulte of Houston visited with the Herreths and the Schultes last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tobola, Mrs. Olga Bennett and Cyril Tobola spent several days in Houston last week.

Visiting in the W. O. Selkirk home this week are: Mr. M. F. Flanagan of Longview, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Thurber of Seehonk, Mass., and Mr. B. J. Flannagan of San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivo Waasley of Abilene visited in Blessing last week.

Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Thurber and Mrs. W. O. Selkirk visited with Mr. and Mrs. B. J Flanagan in San Antonio last week.

Mrs. F. J. Charanza and daughter Bernice of Caldwell are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Bauman this week.

Mr. and Mrs. “Tine” Pickel of Corpus Christi visited with “Doc” Pickel this week-end. They also attended the Golden Wedding Anniversary Party of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gavender.

Special services were held Sunday at the Catholic Church to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 236 were the honor guests.

Mr. John Logan made a business trip to Houston Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hebert and children of Clemville visited with friends in Blessing Sunday.

Miss Mary Manley visited in Alvin, Texas Sunday.

Teddy Davant, of Bay City, is visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Cornelius this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Sliva are the proud parents of a daughter, born Saturday, Feb. 5th, at the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Mr. and Mrs. V. C Murphy have received word from their son, John, that he will be stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ark. He enlisted in the Army, January 25.

Abner Ussery, Jr., has returned to the University after a week’s visit with his parents here.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pierce and boys and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Lee attended the Fat Stock Show in Houston Sunday.

Mrs. Steve Kosarek was called to Shiner, Texas, to be at the bedside of her mother who is very ill.

Mr. Joe Bartlett of Dallas, is visiting the American Liberty Plant this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spies and Mrs. A. C. Spies and son of Houston visited in the Foster home the week-end.

Mr. Gene Thomas has returned to his job in Houston after several weeks visit with his parents here.

Mrs. Steve Kosarek has returned home after spending a week with her mother who has been ill.

Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Heck and Sara Dee made a trip to Giddings, Friday to be with his father who is ill.

Mrs. Hattie Wheeler spent the week-end in Corpus Christi visiting Mrs. Hilda White.

Mr. A. O. Yeager is ill this week.

Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Epperson were shoppers in Bay City Monday.

“Doc” Pickel is ill and was taken to the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo for treatment.

A religious play will be held at the Blessing Community Hall Saturday, February 19, at 7:30 o’clock by the students of the University of Corpus Christi.

A large crowd attended the Religious Play given at the Blessing Community Hall Saturday night by the students of the University of Corpus Christi.

Mrs. M. D. Walker and Miss Esther Walker of Bay City spent several days of last week with Mrs. Ruth Williams.

Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Powell and Frances spent the week-end in Houston visiting Mrs. Powell’s sisters.

Mr. Abner M. Ussery has returned home after several weeks visit in Austin.

Quite a large number of Blessing people attended the Shriners Ball in Palacios Saturday night.

Mr. Arthur Foster attended the scouts meeting in Bay City Monday night.

Miss Mary Manley and Mrs. Bert Logan were visitors in Palacios Thursday afternoon.

It is reported that “Doc” Pickel is doing nicely after an operation Friday morning at the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Logan attended the Rice-Baylor Basketball game in Houston Thursday night.

Cpl. Jno. Vaclavick of Camp Stonewall, Calif., is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Vaclavick.

Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Rickaway are visiting their daughter Mrs. Alvin Walker in Freeport this week.

Lee Pierce, Mel Lee, Johnnie Hornischer and Edward Matthes attended the Ninth District American Legion Meeting in Victoria. The guest speaker was Mr. McCraw.

Mrs. Avon Harter and Vona Mae left Saturday for San Antonio for a indefinite stay in interest of Vona’s health.

Mr. and Mrs. Jr. King and Linda spent several days in Houston last week.

The Junior Class entertainment was a successful affair Saturday night. The class wishes to thank every one for making it a financial success. The proceeds will be used for Junior and Senior class entertainment.

Pfc. Victor Watzlavik left Monday for an Air Base in California. He has been visiting his parents here while on furlough.

Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Nelson and Mrs. W. D. Daniels spent the week end in Cuero.

Mrs. Ruth Williams and Miss Esther Walker have returned from a trip to Bandera, Amarillo and Corsicana where they visited relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Buster Schnurpel and children visited friends and relatives in Jasper and Port Neches over the week-end.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Butler of Conroe visited the Butler families here last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mersfelder of Fort Worth visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Mersfelder, Monday.

Mrs. A. E. Schulte was taken to the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City Monday, for Treatment.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Visser and children of Wichita Falls visited Mr. and Mrs. Buster Schnurpel one day last week.

Mrs. Danna B. Logan spent the week-end in Houston visiting an old schoolmate, Mrs. James Dabney.

Week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Havlik were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Svadlenak and children from Corpus Christi, Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Krenek of Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lesikar from Bay City.

Mrs. A. B. Pierce and Mrs. Hall had as their guests for luncheon Thursday at the Pine Room Grill in the Shamrock Hotel, Dr. and Mrs. Van Bergen and family, and Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Pierce, Jr., and family. Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Pierce returned to Blessing Friday after spending the night at the Shamrock.

Many Blessing friends calling on Mrs. W. O. Selkirk in Nightingale Hospital in El Campo where she is recovering from an operation, say that she will be allowed to return to her home in Blessing next Sunday.

Voters—do not forget to go to the polls and vote on April 2, first Saturday in April, for seven Trustees for the newly created Tidehaven Consolidated Independent School District which as you know is composed of the old Blessing Independent, Markham Independent., Midfield, Ashby, El Maton, and Buckeye Common School Districts. By gentlemen’s agreement we are hoping to elect one Trustee only from each of the above names sections of the District. Polls will be open at the Blessing High School and the Markham High School.

Mrs. and Mrs. Abb Parham of San Antonio and Miss Very Pickel of Cleburne are visiting in the Doc Pickel home this week.

Mrs. Tracy Butler and Kathy Lynn made a trip to Bay City Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Herreth and son Tommy of Houston spent the week-end with his parents Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Herreth.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Matthes and Fritz Matthes visited friends here Saturday.

Visitors in the “Doc” Pickel home Sunday were, Mr. and Mrs. U. T. Pickel from Corpus Christi, Mr. Maynard Early of Wharton and Miss Lois Pickel of Bay City.

Mrs. W. A. Sanford is recuperating nicely from a major operation in the Bayview Hospital.

Visiting in the Robert Rickaway home over the week end were their two sons, Gene and Albert Lee of Elgin, and a nephew, Kenneth Beckmann from Tivoli.

Mrs. Hattie Wheeler spent several days of last week in Bay City with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes and Mrs. Della Braden

The Blessing Junior and Senior 4-H Clubs had a party at the Community House Friday night. There were several out-of-town members present, most of whom had previously attended the recreation school in Bay City. There were games and square dancing and a good time was had by all who attended.

Mrs. Lee Hall has been confined to the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo.

Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Rhodes, of San Antonio came home for the week-end.

The Markham W. S. C. S. met with Mrs. W. C. Mersfelder last Wednesday afternoon. There were seventeen present.

Guests in the A. E. Schulte home last week were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Morrison and son of New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Elizabeth Baruge of Houston; and Mrs. Annie Moore of Longview.

Pfc. John Vaclavick left Tuesday for Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. He has been here on furlough for the past several weeks.

Mrs. A. B. Pierce made a trip to El Campo and Bay City Saturday.

R. C. T. John B. Murphy from Camp Chaffee, Ark., stopped in to visit with his parents while enroute to Camp Carson, Colorado.

Mrs. C. P. Butler and Mrs. Dick Wheeler took the Y-Teens to the Y. W. C. A. play day in Houston Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Erick Johs and children accompanied by her sister Mrs. Paul Bartlette of Lake Jackson attended a family reunion in San Augustine Sunday.

Mrs. A. M. Logan and Mrs. C. D. Salley Jr. and Clifton Terry were shoppers in Bay City last Wednesday.

The American Legion Buddy Night was held last Tuesday evening at the new hall. It was a big success and they wish to extend thanks for all the nice gifts that were given for their kitchen.

The Cecil Lee Post No. 649 American Legion, Blessing, Texas, wishes to extend their thanks to all the people who so generously donated their time, money and efforts to make our barbecue and dance a great success. The registered bull was won by Ward Cook of Palacios.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis Epperson and daughter visited in Beaumont Sunday.

A surprise party was given at the Blessing Hotel Thursday night May 12th in honor of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Logan. It was their first wedding anniversary. After games of “42” refreshments of coffee, cake and ice cream were served.

Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Heck and Sara Dee, Mr. and Mrs. Beau Butler and boys went on a fishing trip this week-end to Giddings, Texas.

Those who attended the May Fete in Bay City Friday night were Mrs. A. C. Thomas, Miss Esther Walker, Mr. Jerry Orsak, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster and a number of Boy Scouts of Troop 236.

Mrs. and Mrs. Ted Podoluk and son have returned to their home in Chicago, after a week’s visit with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Bump.

Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Butler and boys are on their vacation, they plan to visit in Lubbock, Dallas, and Conroe.

Manford Foster of El Maton was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when he fell from the back of a pickup and was run over by a trailer. The accident happened at the Blessing “Y.” He was taken to the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Mrs. Lee Pierce spent several days of last week visiting her sister Mr. and Mrs. Bob Feathers in Houston.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brod of El Campo were Monday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster.

Mrs. Steve Rickaway and sister Joy made a trip to Wharton Monday to bring her mother home who has been in the hospital there.

A shower was given at the Blessing Community House last Thursday night in honor of Miss Joy Herreth, the bride-to-be, received many lovely gifts. The hostesses were Mesdames Selkirk, Sanford, Wheeler, Heck, Butler, Cornelius, Harter and A. B. Pierce. Refreshments of do-nuts, coffee, and tea were served.
