Cockrell, Jim, passed away in Matagorda General Hospital October 26. Services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Thursday, in Bethlehem A. M E. Methodist Church in Old Ocean, with the Rev. Melvin Boone officiating. The Rev. A. H. Harris is pastor. Interment will be in the Burial Cemetery in Van Vleck. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Theo Roundtree, Corpus Christi; one son, Milton J. Cockrell, Houston; two brothers, Ben Cockrell, Houston and Eugene Cockrell, Los Angeles, Calif. Also, one aunt, Mrs. Lena Virginia Thompson of Wharton; one sister, Mrs. Anita Jones, Old Ocean; two grandsons and many nieces, nephews and friends. Penn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

VAN VLECK - Funeral services for Elijah Davis, 70, of Van Vleck, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Jesus Freewill, with Bishop Michael Hurst, pastor, and Pastor Ruben Newell, officiating. Burial will follow immediately after services at St. John Cemetery [Burial Association] in Van Vleck.

Viewing will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 in the chapel of Green's Mortuary.

Funeral services for Horace Davis, 67, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 at 2 p. m. at Enterprise Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. J. Weldon Gilbert, pastor, and Rev. James Ashton, Jr., eulogist. Burial will follow at Burial Association Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Davis was born in Van Vleck, Wednesday, March 29, 1932, to Henry Davis, Sr. and Addie Hayes Davis, and passed away at his residence Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999.

Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Flagg Davis of Bay City; four daughters, Regina Bryant, Audrey Scott (& Adair), Clarice Woods and Lisa Flagg, all of Bay City; and four sons, Troy Davis of Houston, Floyd Williams (& Maria), Jesse Flagg and Todd Flagg, all of Bay City; his step-children, Sammie Johnson, Shirley Caldwell, Veda Rutherford, Audrey Wilkins and Jennifer Brown. Also: his mother, Addie McNeil of Bay City; one sister, Earnestine Austin of Van Vleck, and three brothers, R. A. Wiley (& Dorothy), and Floyd Wiley of Bay City, and Roger Porter (& Sue) of Houston; seven grandchildren, including one he reared as a son, Terrance Flagg; 16 great-grandchildren; two aunts, Althea Franklin of Van Vleck and Carrie Frierson of Bay City; a host of nieces, nephews, god-daughters, Debbie McKee and Tina Reed, in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Recie Wiley, Jr., Terry Wiley, Bobby Flagg, Carnell Austin, Lonnie Austin, Alfred Blackmon and Walter Jefferson.

Joyce L. Davis, 70, passed away on December 29, 2021. She was born to Errie Mae Davis and Lloyd Jackson on March 10, 1951. Joyce attended public schools in LaMarque and Bay City. She was a 1969 graduate of Hilliard High School. Joyce was the proud mother of two sons, Randall Knapp Jr., and Calvin Williams. Larry Donnell Davis Sr.

Larry Donnell Davis Sr., age 67, formerly of Bay City, Texas passed away on August 7, 2019 in Sugar Land, Texas.

He was born in Bay City, Texas on March 7, 1952, the son of Phillip Edison and Elvira Davis.

Visitation and guest book registry will be on Friday, August 16, 2019, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Duncan Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Enterprise Baptist Church in Bay City, with burial to follow at Burial Association Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Survivors include an enormous host of relatives and friends.

William Davis

Mr. William Davis, age 81, of Van Vleck, will be held Saturday, September 30, at 2:00 p. m., at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with Brother Hugh McGruder officiating, and Rev. Ruben Newell presiding. Burial will follow at Burial Association Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m in the Chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church.

Mr. Davis was born Thursday, May 14, 1914, in Matagorda County, Texas, to Milton Davis and Alice Simmons Davis, and died Monday, September 25, 1995, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Errie Mae Booker of Bay City, Mrs. Ollie Minifee of Hitchcock, Mrs. Delores Mitchell of Houston, Mrs. Nellie McGruder of Angleton, Mrs. Lenora Foster of Missouri City, Mrs. Reda Runnels and Mrs. Pamela Gaines, both of Van Vleck, Charlie Davis of Texas City, and Milton Cockrell of Lake Jackson. Also his daughters-in-law, Mrs. Lizzie Davis, Mrs. Eunice Davis, Mrs. Porshia cockrell and Mrs. Vivian Davis, and sons-in-law K. J. Mitchell, Hugh McGruder, Thomas Foster and Vernon Runnels, 41 grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hines of Marino Valley, California, Mrs. Carrie Davis of Bay City, and Mrs. Derotha Jones of Van Vleck, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth King Davis, Apri, 1984, and four sons. He also was preceded by five sisters, Amanda Armstead, Rebecca Brinkley, Rose Lee Harkless, Mary Lee Allen and Elmira Hutchinson, and two brothers, Charlie Davis and Walter Davis.

Active pallbearers will include James Brinkley, Jonas Brinkley, John L. Brinkley, Wayne King, Cornelious Woodard, Larry Davis, Roland Williams and Richard Ashton.

Honorary pallbearers will include Roland Armstead, Paul Minifee, Sylvester Mitchell, Eddie Baugh, Jr., Herman Davis, Jr., Charles Davis, Jrs., Thomas Foster, III, Elijah Davis, Jr., David Runnels, Timothy McGruder, Adrain Gaines and Brian Cockrell.
