J. B. "Big Boy" Sorrell

Funeral services for Mr. J. B. "Big Boy" Sorrell, age 83, of Cedar Lane, will be held Friday, September 21, at 11:00 a. m., at First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, with Rev. Murray Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be Thursday until 9 p. m. in the Chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Friday from 10 til 11 a. m. at the church.

Mr. Sorrell was born in Cedar Lane on Tuesday, September 12, 1910, to Harrison Sorrell and Jane Edison Sorrell, and died Sunday, September 17, 1995, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

During his membership at First Berean Baptist Church, he held the position of Chairman of the Deacon Board. He also was a member of Gulf Coast Lodge #272.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Luvinia Moore Sorrell of Cedar Lane, and one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Nina Robertson (& Rev. James) of Bay City.

Also four sons and three daughters-in-law, Earnest Sorrell, Sr. (& Naomi) of Texas City, Benjamin Sorrell (& Betty) of Houston, Eddie B. Sorrell (& Shirley) of Lake Jackson and Eugene H. Sorrell of Cedar Lane.

Also 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 6 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will include Earnest L. Sorrell, Sr., Benjamin L. Sorrell, Eddie B. Sorrell, Sr., James C. Roberson, Oscar Gatson, Fredrick B. Sorrell.

Honorary pallbearers will include the Deacons of First Berean Baptist Church.

SORRELL

Funeral services for Luvenia Sorrell, 83, of Cedar Lane, were held Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, with the Rev. Murray Griggs, Sr., eulogist. Burial followed at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane .

She was born in
Wharton, TX, Tuesday, September 3, 1918, to Ben Moore, Sr. and Ethel Cooper Moore, and passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Legacy in Bay City .

In life, her faith in God and love for her family were her greatest joys.

Survivors include: daughter, Nina Roberson and the Rev. James Roberson of Bay City, and four sons, Earnest Sorrell and Naomi of Texas City, Benjamin Sorrell of Houston, Eddie Sorrell and Shirley of Lake Jackson, and Eugene Sorrell of Cedar Lane; two sisters, Annie Moore of Cedar Lane and Irene Henderson and Raymond of Houston; two brothers, Percy Moore Sr., and Matti and Lawrence Moore, Sr. & Mary, all of Bay City; also 11 grandchildren, six great-grands, two sisters-in-law Elnora Moore, Bay City, and Eula Moore of Sheppard; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded her are her parents, her husband, J. B. Sorrell, Sept l7, 1995, two sisters, Jessie Tims, Elleaner Woodard and four brothers, Ben Moore, Jr., Cunnie Moore, Sr., Freddie Moore and Leon Moore.

Shirley Jean Sorrell

Funeral services for Shirley Jean Sorrell, 60 of Richwood will be Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Brazoria located at Hwy. 36 and FM 521 in Brazoria with Rev. John White III officiating. Burial will follow at Edison Cemetery III in Cedar Lane, Texas.

She died February 6, 2007 at Brazosport Regional Healthcare System in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board. She taught school in the Columbia Brazoria ISD for over 30 years. She loved doing work on the computer especially pictures and programs.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband who she was united in marriage in 1976, Eddie B. Sorrell, Sr., Richwood, son, Eddie B. Sorrell, Jr., College Station, brother, William Chatmon III, Austria, Europe, aunts, Artie Faye Chatmon, Galveston and Ida V. Loud, Dallas, great-uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Loud, La Margue, Godchild, LeDerrick Brinkley, Houston, sister-in-law, Nina Mae Roberson (James), Bay City, brother-in-laws, Earnest Sorrell (Naomi), Texas City, Benjamin Sorrell, Houston and Eugene Sorrell, Cedar Lane and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a wake from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. There will be viewing at the church on Thursday, February 15, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. only. There will be no viewing afterward.

Active pallbearers will be David Brooks,* James C. Roberson, Earnest J. Sorrell, Jr., Oscar Gatson, Robert Furch, Carl McCulley and Rick Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earnest J. Sorrell, Sr., Benjamin L. Sorrell, Eugene H. Sorrell, LeDerrick Brinkley, Rogers Mustiful, Earl Lacy, Robert Helm, Burnice Black, Ronald Barnes and Robbie Bland.

Mrs. Harriett Spencer, 83, of Cedar Lane died Sunday in her home. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Wash Edison and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Edison of Cedar Lane. Funeral Services were held Saturday at 1 p. m. at Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with Rev. Alexander Sykes officiating. Interment was at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane with Ernest Sorrell, Sr., Benjamin Sorrell, Eugene Sorrell, Eddie B. Sorrell, James Roberson and Travis Edison serving as pallbearers. Arrangements with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.
