Funeral service for Kurtis Stanley Law, 83, of Live Oak, will be held Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Vine Grove Christian Church in Live Oak, with Rev Larry Fletcher, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Live Oak.

Visitation will be Wednesday until 9 p.m. in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born in Live Oak, TX, Sunday, August 4, 1918, to Walter Law and Hattie Wyche Law, and passed away, Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Bay Villa Healthcare Center, Bay City.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was known throughout the community.

Survivors include a sister, Naomi C. Fletcher of Live Oak, and a brother, Howard Law of Palacios, also a host of nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Hines and Reginald Franklin, and four brothers, Acie Law, John Law, Rev. Wilkie Law, and Walter Lee Law, Sr.

Active pallbearers will be Thomas Fletcher, Roosevelt Fletcher, Jr., John Fletcher, Calvin Fletcher and Leo Roberts, Jr.

Mrs. Evelyn Love passed away on July 25, 2015.

A visitation was held on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m.

Both services took place at The Light of the World Church, 16161 Old Humble Rd., Humble, Texas.

Interment was at Live Oak Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

Funeral  arrangements for Leon Matthews, 72, of Bay City, are scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday at First Sacred Memorial Christian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Brown officiating. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery in Live Oak.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p. m. at Green’s Mortuary chapel.

Mr. Matthews was born Aug. 30, 1921 in Texas to James and Thelma Anderson Matthews and died Sept. 4, 1993 at UTMB in Galveston.

He was a member of First Sacred Memorial Christian Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Matthews; three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Durgan, Annette and Charles Smith and Shirley Matthews of Bay City; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Johnson and Jessie Mae Keith of Van Vleck, Willie B. and James Prince Sr. of Freeport and Edna Clay of Bay City; three brothers, Josh Young of Palacios, J. B. Young of Houston and Claudia Young of Los Angeles, Calif.; an aunt, Johnnie Smith of San Francisco and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Brown, John Wayne Brown, Sam Brown, Lawrence Johnson, Leon Johnson, Curtis Manning, Harold Shaw and Charles Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. B. Young, Josh Young and Claudie Young.

Arrangements are with Green’s Mortuary in Bay City.

Virginia Brown Matthews
July 19, 1924 – April 25, 2007

Funeral services for Virginia Brown Matthews were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at New Fellowship Tabernacle Church with the Reverend A. H. Floyd officiating. Burial is to be at Live Oak Community Cemetery in Live Oak, Texas. Visitation was from 3 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Green's Mortuary Chapel.

On, July 19, 1924, a child was born to Shepherd Brown and Octavia King Brown whom they named Virginia.

Living her childhood in Live Oak Community, Virginia attended school and confessed to Christ at an early age. Virginia was joined in holy matrimony to Leon Matthews and to this union two children were born, a son Leon Matthews, Jr., deceased, and a daughter Annette Matthews Smith.

Those who have preceded her in death were her husband, Leon H. Matthews, Jr., parents Shepherd and Octavia Brown, and siblings, Ernest Brown, Leola Brown Cooper, Roger Brown, and Jobe Brown.

The earthly journey of our beloved, Virginia Brown Matthews made its transition peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Bay City, Texas at the age of 82 years, she leaves a spiritual legacy to her family and friends and with comfort and assurance that “the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”

She is survived by: her daughters, Annette Matthews Smith of Bay City, Texas and Shirley Matthews McMorris (James) of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mae Ella Brown of Bay City, Texas; five grandchildren, William (Christina), Adrian, Briana, Alyssa, and Bryce; three great-granddaughters, Kayla, Kimbrie, Kirsten; six nephews that were dear to her heart John Brown (Rose), Herbert Cooper, Shelton Cooper, Anthony Wright, John Brinkley, and Joshua Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
