Cynthia Gay Allen

Ms. Cynthia Gay Allen was born August 3, 1956 in Galveston, Texas to the proud parents of Mr. Major Allen and the late Mrs. Gaynor Elizabeth Allen.

She united with the Baptist Church at an early age. She was a graduate of the La Marque High School of La Marque, Texas.

Cynthia departed this life on Monday, October 2, 1989.

Survivors include: a son, Andre’ Allen, of La Marque, father, Major Allen of La Marque, grandfather, Louis Ray, Sr., of Markham, two great aunts, Eliza Brown of La Marque & Myrtle Dubinson of San Antonio, Tx. Six aunts: Vivian Callis of Galveston, Lillie Brooks, Markham, Rebecca Robinson of Bailey’s Prairie, Alma Robinson of Bay City, Helen Ray also of Bay City, Velma Foley of Houston, Tx. Two uncles: Louis, Ray, Jr., Bay City, Tx., & Donald Ray of Fort Wayne, Ind., a devoted friend, Lula Bonner of Houston, Texas. And a host of relatives and friends.

Lillie P. Allen

Lillie P. Allen

Many years ago, on February 6, 1891, a daughter was born to Ransom and Elizabeth Gail Pea in Van Vleck, Texas, whom they named Lillie.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Eddie M. Allen.

She was baptized and confessed a hope in Christ in 1906 under the leadership of Rev. Dew. In later years she became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Markham, Texas under the leadership of Rev. G. R. Turner.

She departed this life Tuesday morning April 13, 1976. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Mrs. Blanchetta Sheppard of Markham and Mrs. Vivian Crawford of Columbus, one sister, Mrs. Dell Grovy of Hitchcock, one niece, Mrs. Mabel Howard of Berkley, Calif., seven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Major Allen

On Monday, May 9, 1921 at Bay City Texas, Major Allen was born to the parents of William Allen and Georgia Clay Allen. He was reared on Caney Creek and was united with the Baptist Church in the community of his birth.

He was married to Gaynor Elizabeth Allen who preceded him death. To this union, one daughter, Cynthia Gay Allen was born, who also preceded him in death. Also, preceded him in death were 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Major served in the U. S. Army and worked as a Longshoreman for Local 851.

On Sunday the 17th day of August 1997, at Columbia/Mainland Medical Center, Texas City, Texas, he departed this life and leaving his memory, a very special and devoted friend, Lora Bonner of Houston, Texas; children, Penny Williams-McClelland of Galveston, Texas, and a son, Reynardo Allen Palsen of Houston, Texas; sister, Rebecca Robinson of Bailey’s Prairie, Texas; grandson, Andre’ Allen of La Marque, Texas. Plus, a host of other relatives and friends.

Bernice Marie Carter Andrews

Funeral services for Bernice Marie Carter Andrews, 63, of Bay City will be held 1 p. m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. Rudolph Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation hours have been scheduled for 1 to 9 p. m. Friday at the Dixon Funeral Home, Brazoria.

Mrs. Andrews was born July 19, 1928, and died Aug. 29, 1991, at Sweeny House.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Frank Andrews of Bay City; two sons, Samuel Brown Jr. and Kenneth Wayne Brown of Bay City; a daughter, Marion Louise Brown of Florida; a brother, James Carter of Galveston; a sister, Doris B. Moore of Galveston; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Wilmer Petteway Jr., Charles Young, Willie Edison, Daniel Young Jr., Jerry Cook and Marvin Harris.

Honorary pallbearers are Samuel Brown Jr., Samuel Brown III, Freddie Williams, Eddie Williams, Andy Moore Jr. and Leon Hebert III.

Arrangements are with Dixon Funeral Home, Brazoria.

Bernice Marie Carter Andrews

On July 19, 1928, a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Carter whom they named Bernice. She grew up in the Markham Community. At an early age, she attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to Samuel Brown, Sr. To this union, three children were born, two preceded her in death. Later she married Charles Frank Andrews.

Her earthly journey came quietly to an end on Thursday, August 29, 1991 at Sweeny House Nursing Home. Her memories will always remain in the hearts of her husband, Charles Frank Andrews, Bay City; sons, Samuel Brown, Jr., Kenneth Wayne Brown of Bay City; 1 daughter, Marion Louise Brown of Florida; 1 brother, James Carter, Galveston; 1 sister, Doris B. Moore, Galveston; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
