Michael Lee Temple

Michael Lee Temple was born July 26, 1953 to Samuel and Otha Temple. He was the fifth of seven children born to this union. He attended public school in Markham, Texas and graduated from Tidehaven High School in 1971.

He lived his adolescent, teenage/young adult years in the wings of this older brother Samuel. They were very close; best friends. When you saw one, you saw the other. They were truly each other's keeper.

At a young age, Michael developed a passion for reading encyclopedias. He loved sports, basketball and football in particular. In his past time, he liked to play cards and dominos with his cousins and friends.

Michael spent much of his adult life working various jobs to help take care of his mother and younger siblings until he became physically disabled. With progressive illnesses, his younger brother Steve became his care giver. Michael faced many challenges with failing health issues and went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, January 6, 2015. By his side was his brother Steve, sister Sallie, niece Jacqueline "Sissy" and brother-in-law Kenneth Davison. The Lord gave Michael and his family members a beautiful peace as the Spirit of the Lord filled the hospital room. Praise and worship took place, scriptures were read and after Michael listened to his favorite song "Never Would Have Made It" by Marvin Sapp, he transitioned from this life to an eternal place of peace. He made it!

He was a dear brother to Essie (deceased), Samuel (deceased), Steve A Temple and Sallie Temple Davison. He was brother-in-law to Kenneth Davison and Don Lenzy. He was uncle to Gerald (Christy), Jacqueline (Chris), Adonis (Heather), Joshua, Chrystal, Courtney, Maxine, Grayson & Kherington Lenzy; Kenneth, Kevin and Korey Davison, Steve Jr. & Ashley, Amia & Princeton La'Bria, Temple, Brittanie Abbott & Kamary, Sedric and Saedrian Wiggins and Samuel Temple IV. Dec. 19, 1929 - Jan. 25, 2008

She gave her life to her faith, family, and nursing profession. She was a well-respected member of her neighboring community and church family.

On Jan. 25, 2008 Mrs. Othie Lee Temple departed this life and went on to her eternal reward. She leaves to cherish her loving memory four children: Mrs. Essie Mae Temple Lenzy, Mr. Michael Lee Temple, Mrs. Sallie Yvonne Temple Davison, Mr. Steve Adrian Temple and a host of extended family members and friends. Published in the Victoria Advocate on 1/31/2008.

Othie “Oatha” Lee Temple

Mother Othie Lee Temple entered this life December 19, 1929 in Memphis, Texas to Sam and Freddie Mae Brown. He had two sisters: Dorothy Mae Brown and Sophronia R. Brown Fisher and four brothers: Lee Andrew Brown, Edward Brown, Sam Brown and Vernell Milton, all of whom preceded her in death.

At the young age of seventeen she united with Samuel Temple II in holy matrimony on August 25, 1947. They together made a home in Markham, Texas. To this union was born seven children, three of which preceded in her in death, Robert Lee, Linda Marie and Samuel III.

In her early twenties she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the Mt. Zion Church of God In Christ in Markham, Texas. The presiding pastor at that time was the late Reverend J. B. Allen. There she obtained a solid foundation of Christian teaching that guided her through life’s journey. She always spoke fondly of Reverend Allen and the things he often taught her. Othie knew and experienced the power and presence of the Lord and received many answers to prayers. It is because of her that many in her family have come to know the Lord. She leaves with them a strong legacy of prayer and faith in God.

In 1968 her life took a traumatic turn. Samuel II, her husband of twenty-one years, died abruptly leaving her to raise their children alone. Othie, relying totally on God, acquired her nursing certification in order to provide a living for her children. Eventually, this widowed mother of five was able to purchase a brand new home and moved her family to Bay City, Texas, in a prominent neighborhood. Look what God hath done. Her testimony through the years was that God always provided that which she needed.

Over fifty years she worked in the nursing profession untiringly caring for others. She was well respected among those who co-labored with her in this field and the neighboring community at large. Othie cared about people. Her family she held close to her heart and displayed true humanitarian efforts by not only raising her children, but also three of her brother Lee Andrew Brown’s children. She was indeed the Matriarch of the Temple family who held everyone together through good times and bad.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. (II Cor. 5:8). On January 25, 2008 this matriarch closed her eyes in peace as she crossed over to eternal life in her Savior Jesus Christ. Imparting to her family a wonderful legacy of prayer and faith in the power of God.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Mrs. Essie Mae Temple Lenzy, Mr. Michael Lee Temple, Mrs. Sallie Yvonne Temple Davison, Mr. Steve Adrian Temple, all of San Antonio, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.

We praise God for her life, the time he allowed for her to share with us and the beautiful life legacy she has left to gracefully embrace.
