ABELS, EDWARD E.
Edward E. Abels, 70, of Bay City died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in Bay
City.
He was born September 10, 1930 in Springfield, La. to Alexander R. and
Rubye Pusey Abels.
Mr. Abels was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, and a former resident of
Hammond, La.
He is survived by: wife, Annette Baird Abels of Bay City; daughter,
Elizabeth Baird Powell; sons, Edward E. Abels Jr., of Sugar Land, Texas,
Brent Abels of Bay City, and Scott Abels of Round Rock, Texas; sisters,
Katherine Fayard and Margaret Lil Maurin both of Springfield, La.;
brothers, Charles Abels of Baton Rouge, La., Harold Abels of
Springfield, La.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Abels, Kristin Abels, Jacob
Abels, Taylor Abels, Lorrie Abels, Eric Abels, Jordan Abels, Holly Abels,
Rochelle, and Haley Powell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen, brothers,
Raymond, Jacob, Ralph, Wilson, and A. R. Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.

ACKERMAN, ROBERT W., "BOB"
Robert W. "Bob" Ackerman, 77, of Blessing, passed away,
Thursday, September 7, 2000 in Bay City. He was born May 14, 1923 in
Blessing to John Gilbert Ackerman and Mary Edith Nolen Ackerman. He was
a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of Collegeport
Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Rice Farmer and Cattle Rancher, a
member of RVOS and a veteran of the 8th Air Force. He was a former
member of the American Legion Post #649 of Blessing and a former member
of the North American Linousin Association.
He is survived by, wife, Margie Lorene Neuszer Ackerman of Blessing;
daughters, Eileen Ackerman of Austin and Gale King of Blessing; son,
Wayne Ackerman of Blessing, six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 9,
2000 at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing with Rev. James Collins officiating.
Interment was in Hawley Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are his
grandchildren, Julie Ann Wesselman, Dennis Eugene Ackerman, Amy King and
Carl King.
Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

ACOSTA ABEL GOMEZ
Abel Gomez Acosta, 79, of Victoria died December 12, 2005 at his
residence. He was born July 3, 1926 in Bay City to Baldemero and Estella
Gomez Acosta.
He was a member of the American Legion, GI Forum, and was a talented
self-taught musician who once appeared on Austin City Limits.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Amelia Acosta and a
daughter, Linda Acosta.
Survivors include two daughters & a son-in-law; Amelia Acosta of Houston
and Gayle & Joe Mireles of Port Lavaca, by three sisters; Esther Acosta
& Mary Ann Cervantes both of Bay City and Alice Villarreal of Corpus
Christi; three brothers, Gilbert Acosta and Anthony Acosta both of Bay
City and Albert Acosta of Houston; five grandchildren, Joe Albert
Mireles, Gayle Linda Mireles, & Abel Pedro Mireles all of Port Lavaca,
Samantha Short of West Virginia and Mirissa Short of West Columbia; and
his devoted companion, Martha Ogle of Victoria.
Rosary will be 7:30 PM Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Mass 10:00 am Thursday
at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gerry Cernoch
officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

ADAMS, HARLES W.
MARKHAM - Harles W. Adams, 85, of Markham, died Wednesday, Sept. 24,
2003.
He was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Optimus, Ark., to the late James Claudius
and Lillie Lee Cartwright Adams. He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member and past commander of
Philip H. Parker VFW Post No. 2438 and member of the Blessing Cecil Lee
American Legion Post No. 649. He was a Baptist.
Survivors: wife, Annie E. Slone Adams; daughters, Elaine Nickie, Rhonda
Jean Serrell and Martha Mae Lacy, all of Bay City; sons, Ronnie Adams
and Edward D. Quinney, both of Markham; four grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. tonight at Taylor Bros.
Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City,
the Revs. Oliver Southall and Chester Sassman officiating.
Burial will be at Ashby Cemetery near El Maton. Taylor Bros. Funeral

Adams, 63, of Bay City will be held 10 am Saturday at Taylor Brothers
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. J. Zumalt officiating. Burial will
be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.
Mr. Adams was born Nov. 8,
1925, in Pilot Point, Texas, to George Barkley and Lillie Amanda Fisher
Adams and died March 2, 1989, at Matagorda General Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Bay
City, he was retired from Matagorda Tractor and Implement Co. He was a
WWII veteran having served with the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the
Church of the Nazarene, Bay City.
Survivors include his wife,
Lillian Lee Layton Adams of Bay City; a daughter, Demice Stumpner of Bay
City; two sons, Lee Roy Adams, Jr. of Houston and David Barkley Adams of
Lake Jackson; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Barkley Adams and Sarah
Ann Adams of Lake Jackson and Kristian Nikol Stumpner of Bay City.
Pallbearers include Mack

Charles Layton.

Jerry C. Adkins, 77, of Blessing (Oak Hollow Community) died May 7, 2003
at Matagorda General Hospital.
He was born December 14, 1925 in Illinois to the late Bruce and Pearl
Crabtree Adkins.
He was a resident of Oak Hollow since 1980 and was a veteran of WWII
servicing in the US Air Force.
Survivors include: wife, Maria D. Nieto Adkins of Oak Hollow; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra and Carlton Weidel of Gladewater,
Texas, Maria and Jimmy Valdez of Lake Jackson, Ruby Adkins of Odessa,
Texas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott Edward and Sharon Adkins
of Fredericksburg, Texas, Otto and Teresa Adkins of Blessing, and Jesse
and Clara Adkins of Bloomington, Texas; two sisters, Colleen Milliken of
Jewett, Texas and Debbie Ewing of McAllen, Texas; brothers, Bruce
Adkins, Jr. of Georgetown, Dorse Adkins of Jewett, and Donald Adkins of
Edinburg; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Taylor Bros. with the Rev.
Shawn Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in
Blessing, Texas. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral Services for Thomas Amey, 78, of Bay City will be held at 2 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Tyree Chapel A.M.E. Church in Bay City with the
Rev. R. R. Simon officiating.
Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.
Visitation will be Sunday until 9 p.m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts
Funeral Home, and Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Amey died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 at the Specialty Hospital in
Houston. He was born April 28, 1921 in Ashwood to Alfred Amey and Joella
Miller Amey.
He was a graduate of A. G. Hilliard High School in Bay City and Prairie
View University in Prairie View. He was a World War II Veteran, a
retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a school crossing
guard.
Survivors include: wife, Melissa Amey; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Donald and Sandra Wilkins, Dwain and Audrey Wilkins; one brother, Roy L.
Amey and his wife, Jessie Mae, all of Bay City; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

AOUGHSTEN, EDWARD DEWEY
Funeral services for Edward Dewey Aoughsten, 80, of Palacios, will be
held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. James Abernathy officiating. Interment will be at Hawley
Cemetery in Blessing.
Mr. Aoughsten was born May 15, 1923 in Galveston to the late Edward
Wensel and Mamie Addline Baker Aoughsten, He died July 1, 2003.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Coast Guard, and was
also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Olinda Thompson Aoughsten of Palacios; sons
and daughters-in-law Joseph Nelson and Laura Aoughsten of Palacios and
Wensel Milton and Jacqueline Aoughsten of Galveston; a sister Wilma
Joyce O’Conner of Santa Fe, Tx.; and seven granddaughters—Tanya
Almeida and husband Isaac of Victoria, Stephanie Rojas and husband
Anthony of Victoria, Taylor Aoughsten of Palacios, and Rachel, Erin,
Mamie and Danielle Aoughsten, all of Galveston.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Harry Aoughsten.
Pallbearers were Mike Aguilar, Isaac Almeida, Anthony Rojas, Garry
Seaman, Nelo Seaman and Leon Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Hudson
Bates and Bob Kunefke.

APARICIO, BERNARD V.
PALACIOS [Matagorda County] - Bernard V. Aparicio, 78, of Palacios, died
Friday, April 16, 2004.
He was born May 10, 1925, in Zapata, to the late Isaac and Manuela
Aparicio. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He
worked as captain in the shrimping industry, was a member of the Knights
of Columbus, and St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors: daughters, Connie Cantu of San Antonio and Carolyn Villarreal
of Palacios; sisters, Isabel Garcia of San Antonio, Mary Silva of Port
Lavaca, and Rosie Aparicio, Antonia Garcia, Andrea Morales, and Francis
Buentello, all of Palacios; brother, Pete Aparicio of Victoria; five
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: wife, Janie G. Aparicio; sister, Janie A.
Gonzalez, and brother, Homer Aparicio.
Visitation will begin 3 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in
Palacios.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at the church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Revs. Mike Buentello,
