Jeremiah Bishop to William Bishop

 

This Indenture made this twentieth day of April in the year of our Lord (Christ)
One thousand eight hundred and thirty seven between James Bishop Senr. administrator of Jeremiah Bishop of the County of Dinwiddie of one part, and William Bishop of the same County of the other part, witnesseth that the said James Bishop, Senr. admin. for and in the valuable consideration of the sum of One hundred and forty one dollars and thirty six cents good and lawful money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said William Bishop, the receipt whereof he the said James Bishop, Senr. doth hereby acknowledge and thereof do request and discharge the said William Bishop his heirs, executors and administrators, have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain and sell, lien, inforce and confirm unto him the said William Bishop, his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land lying in the aforesaid County of Dinwiddie, on the East side of the Amelia branch, which said land is bounded as follows Viz: on the South by the Sappony Church road, on the West by the Amelia branch, on the North by the land of Thomas Withers and on the East by the lands of Mary Roney, the said tract containing sixty five and three quarter acres be the same more or less with all houses, woods, ways, waters and water courses with all the privileges, profits, commodities, herediments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining, and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders rents and issues thereof. To have and to hold the said land and all and singular the appurtenances unto him the said William Bishop his heirs and assigns forever. And the said James Bishop, Senr. for himself and his heirs do covenant and agree with the said William Bishop and his heirs that he the said James Bishop, Senr. Admin. as aforesaid shall and will warrant and forever defend the title of the said tract or parcel of land against himself and his heirs and against the title claim or demand of all and every other person or persons whomsoever unto him the said William Bishop his heirs and assigns. In testimony whereof the said James Bishop Senr. has hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written.

NOTE: This transcribed deed transfers the 65 3/4 acres belonging to Revolutionary War veteran, Jeremiah Bishop, to his nephew William Bishop at Jeremiah’s death. William was Commissioner of Revenue of Dinwiddie County and later Sheriff. James Bishop Senr., the Administrator of Jeremiah’s estate, was also a Revolutionary War veteran, was Jeremiah’s brother and William’s father.
