Lat: 45° 24' 42"N, Lon: 112° 26' 34"W
Contributed by Pam Burchfield, Aug 27, 2005 [ouroots@yahoo.com].

Driving north on State Hwy 41 from Dillon, Point of Rocks Cemetery is located about 2.5 miles north of the Madison-Beaverhead County line, on the west side of Hwy 41.

Austin Linder donated the land for this cemetery in the late 1800s and a flag pole was donated by the Nyhart family.
The Nyhart family takes care of the family cemetery and has an overseer to take care of the grounds. He does wonderful job therefore the cemetery is in excellent condition.

ROCHESTER CEMETERY
The Rochester Cemetery lies back in the hills to the west of town on unmarked dirt roads. The town grew and died with the mining era. The cemetery has been left to the elements. Ten markers simply read "unknown". A dozen markers are basically unreadable. Two names are marked with an asterik (*). There was no marker that was readable for them, but records indicate they were both buried here.

BOOTHILL CEMETERY

Submitted Magi Rail, Jul 05, 2004 [john315@msn.com]

Boothill Cemetery is north of town just a short ways. Take Jackson Street from Hwy 287 drive north and you will come to the cemetery up on the hill.

This is the first cemetery for the town of Virginia City. It was used for the burial of all those who first came to this area as well as those who died with their boots on, so to speak. Some buried here died in the flu epidemic of 1862, however many of those were later removed to another cemetery.

There is evidence of many unmarked graves. It is not known how many are actually buried here. This is all that I was able to find names for and each is displayed with a marker, which may or may not be over the actual burial site.

I visited and read this cemetery in Aug 23, 2003, using my digital camera. If anyone wishes a photo I have, I will be happy to share.

It is rumored that the Plummer gang of five were hanged by the vigilantes and buried here alongside the Daltons, however I found no positive proof, and there was no headstone.
