Introduction

The goal of this project is to present genealogical and historical details about Valley County, Nebraska.  This website is part of The NEGenWeb Project and The USGenWeb Project, a group of volunteers dedicated to providing free data for researchers.  My name is Donna Sims Conner and I am the Coordinator for Valley County.  We rely on volunteers to grow and maintain our websites.  Several of the counties in Nebraska are in need of coordinators.  If you are interested in becoming a county coordinator, please review the Volunteer Requirements and complete the Experience Questionnaire.  We appreciate your contributions!

Valley County was organized in 1873 and its county seat is Ord.  The first settlement was located on the west side of North Loup in 1872 and was composed of Danes, who had emigrated from Wisconsin.  These men were Peter Mortensen, Nels Anderson, George Miller, Jeppe Smith, Christ Frey, and Fall Miller and family.  The next settlement was made on the present site of North Loup by Seventh-Day Baptists, who were also from Wisconsin.  The first school was taught by Miss Kate Badger in a log schoolhouse in the spring of 1873.
