Then & Now: The Churchill County Courthouse and Jail, Fallon, Nevada
These two buildings have watched Fallon grow from its earliest years into
the town we know today. The Churchill County Courthouse, completed in 1903,
was designed by Reno architect Ben Leon. Its Ionic columns and Classical
Revival style made it one of the most notable public buildings in the county
when it opened. The courthouse served local residents for seven decades and
now holds a place on the National Register of Historic Places.
Across
from it stands the old Churchill County Jail, finished in 1906. Its thick
stone and concrete walls show the practical, no-nonsense approach to law
enforcement in the area’s early days. Before this structure was ready,
people awaiting trial were kept wherever officials could place them,
including Buckland Station, which once acted as the county’s seat of
justice.
Swipe to compare the past with the present and see how both
buildings still anchor this corner of Fallon’s history.
