George Merchant

Funeral services for George Merchant, 73, of Dallas formerly of Bay City will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas with Brother Elliott Moore of Moore Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

He passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Medical Center of Plano in Plano, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce Merchant and Wesley Smith, Sr.; grandparents, Hammie Merchant, Sr. and Ophelia Durgan Merchant; stepmother, Mary Smith and brother, Shephard Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories; son, George Andre Merchant (Rhonda), Frisco; daughter, Tracey Renee’ Merchant, Dallas; sisters, Veola Parson and Hattie Mae Wright both of Freeport, Mary Wright (Dave), Annie Lunford (Anthony) and Katherine Bonner (A. C.) all of Sweeny, Dora Bonner (Wilbert), Clute, Shirley Bullocks and Bobbie Wicher (Joel) both of Houston, Evelyn McDonald, Texas City, Paulette Times (Rooney), Brazoria; brothers, Wesley Smith, Jr. (Daphney), Houston, Vernice “Bo” Smith, Sweeny granddaughter, London Merchant, Frisco, good friends, Lee Grant Anderson and Berkley Harkless, host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 1, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. There will be viewing at the church on the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be no viewing afterward.

Active pallbearers will be Adam Troy Davidson, Richard Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Nelvin Parson, Robert Parson and Wilbert Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Andre Merchant, Wesley Smith, Jr., Vernice “Bo” Smith, Mansfield Parson, Jr., Darryl Smith, Lorenzo Smith, Sr. and Earnest Ray Smith.

Hammie Merchant, Sr.

November 16, 1897 – January 16, 1973

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Merchant, a son Hammie, on November 16, 1897. He was united in marriage to Miss Ophelia Durgan and to them six children were born. There were six step-children by a previous marriage of Miss Durgan.

Late in 1951, his wife was deceased. Late in life he married Mrs. Ophelia Davis. He was a deacon of First Sacred Memorial Christian Church.

He departed this life at 6:30 A.M. January 16, 1973 in San Antonio State Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ophelia Merchant of Bay City; one son, Phillip Merchant Sr. of Bay City; four daughters, Mrs. Evangie Smith of Bay City, Mrs. Joyce Richie and Mrs. Willie Bright of Freeport, Texas and Mrs. Frances Jones of Brazoria; three step-children, Mr. I. J. Parks and Mr. Pervis Parks of Bay City and Mr. Norris Parks of Cedar Lake; five sisters, Mrs. Alzenia Woodard, Mrs. Mary Wesley, Mrs. Matilda Woodard, Mrs. Lucy Brown of Cedar Lake and Mrs. L. B. Bonney of Bay City, 47 grand children, 77 great grand children, nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service Sunday, January 21, 1973, 1:00 P. M., Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas, Rev. C. M. Cooper, officiating.

Pearline Merchant

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearline Merchant, 71, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at 11 a. m., at the First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City, with the Rev. A. H. Floyd, officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

 

Visitation will be Friday until 9 P. M. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home. Viewing will take place at the funeral home only.

 

She was born in Sargent, Texas, Saturday, Dec. 6, 1924,   to John Smith and Peggy Monroe Smith, and passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

 

She was a member of the First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City, where she served faithfully until her health failed.

 

Survivors include her husband, Philip Merchant, Sr., and three children, Mrs. Joyce Hawkins (& Johnny), Philip Merchant, Jr. (& Arvis), and Marsen Merchant (& Charlotte). Also one sister, Lucinda Smith, eight brothers, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

 

Her nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

 

Honorary pallbearers will include the Officers of the First Sacred Memorial Christian Church.

Philip Merchant

 

Private services for Philip Merchant, Sr., 76, were to be for immediate family prior to his burial at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

 

Visitation for family and friends was from 5 to 9 p. m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Mr. Merchant died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 in Southeast Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was born Sunday, Oct. 14, 1923 to Hammie Merchant, Sr. and Ophelia Durgan Merchant in Cedar Lake, Texas.

 

Survivors include: his three children, Joyce Marie Hawkins and her husband Johnny, Marseen Merchant and his wife Charlotte of Houston, and Philip Merchant, Jr. and his wife Arvis of Dallas; his loving sister; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

 

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Merchant-Bright

Funeral services for Willie Mae Merchant-Bright, 63, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday at Bethlehem Christian Church of Cedar Lake with the Rev. Odie Fields Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City.

Mrs. Bright was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Cedar Lake, to Hammie and Ophelia Durgan-Merchant and died May 1, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Kay Bright, of Freeport; two sons, Richard Ray Merchant and Dale Anthony Bright of Freeport; a sister, Francis Jones of Brazoria; a brother, Phillip Merchant of Bay City; seven grandchildren, Richard Ray Walton, TaTenesha Walton, Raneisha Jones, Richard Denard Jones, Rayshad Merchant, Susan K. L. Bright and Michael Bright; a great-grandson, Richard Walton; a foster daughter, Jeanette Royster; a goddaughter, Paula Woodard; a niece and godchild, Elnora “Betty” Moore of Bay City; two godsisters, Veola Parson and Princess Fields; two uncles, three aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Adam Davidson, Allen Davidson, Wilbert Jones, Elliott James Moore, Larry Darnell Moore, William Curtis Moore, Nevin Parson, Jeremiah Smith, Purvis Smith and Richard Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Dale Bright, Michael Bright, Oddie Fields III, Richard Ray Merchant, Darryl Smith and Richard Walton.

Angelica “Angie” Moore

Funeral services for Angelica “Angie” Moore, 27, of Texas City, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Nichols Street Church of Christ in Bay City, Texas with Brother A. W. Ward officiating. 

Burial will follow immediately after the services at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

She leaves to cherish her many memories, a precious son, Kaleb Williams; mother, Ethel Brown (Cleophus) of Lake Jackson; father, John Kesee; three brothers, Marcus Brown, Daniel Lewis, and Jarius Kesee; four sisters, Janelle and Jeanetta Grovey, Stephanie Stubblefield, and Angela Hudson; grandmother, Betty Moore of Bay City;  special friend, Calvin Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, September 27, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m at Green’s Mortuary Funeral Home in Bay City.

Visitation will also be at the church Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Cunnie Moore, Jr.

Funeral services for Cunnie Moore, Jr., 52, of Bay City, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Nichols Street Church of Christ, with the Bro. A. W. Ward, officiating.

Cunnie Lee Moore, Jr. was the first born of five boys and two girls, to Cunnie Lee and Elnora Williams Moore. He was affectionately known as “Spooky Moe.”

He attended school in Bay City and graduated with the Class of 1978. He played baseball and football from elementary school through high school.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, driving, and cooking. Cunnie was a very good cook and loved to cook for his family. Growing up he was very sociable and had many friends.

Viewing will be held from 4 until 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, in the chapel of Green’s Mortuary and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Church of Christ Moore Avenue.

Burial will follow immediately after services at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

Funeral services for Willie Moore, 87, of Houston, formerly of Bay City, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Jesus Freewill, Bishop Michael Hurst, pastor and Arch Bishop F. L. Austin, Jr. officiating.

Viewing will be one hour before service; there will be no viewing afterwards.

Clarence Morgan

Funeral services for Clarence Morgan, 75, of Brazoria will be held 2 p. m. Thursday at Magnolia Baptist Church, Brazoria, with the Rev. E. L. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church.

Mr. Morgan was born July 23, 1912, in Matagorda County, Texas, to Isaiah and Daisy Morgan and died Sept. 5, 1987, in Corpus Christi.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 104, the Order of Pilgrims and the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Morgan of Brazoria; a son, R. C. Woodard of Brazoria; seven sisters, Nannie Lee Walker of Corpus Christi, Pearl Clark of Houston, Vernice Speed, Earnestine Morgan, Doris Wiley, Carrie Powell and Jewell Marsh, all of Bay City; and a brother, Lewis Morgan of Bay City.

Pallbearers will be members of Masonic Lodge 104.

Honorary pallbearers include Benjamin Scott Jr., Benjamin Scott III, Ronald L. Scott, Lewis Morgan, Robert C. Woodard, David Jones, Hallard Fields and Arthur Clark.
