Mrs. Leama Smith, 76, of Bay City died July 27, 1981 at Bay Villa Nursing Home. Her church affiliation was Baptist. Survivors include: sisters, Mrs. Francis King of Bay City, Mrs. Willie Thompson of Merced, California: brother, Roosevelt Robinson of Galveston; aunt, Mrs. Alberta Johnson of Merced, California; sons, Washington Harrison and John Harrison of Bay City, W.W. Smith Jr. of San Diego, California, Baker Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robbie Smith of Oakhoward, Washington; daughters, Mrs. Mary Walls of Santa Barbara, California, Mrs. Bertha Johnson, Mrs. Delcenia Smith, Mrs. Sallie Mayfield, Mrs. Lillian Johnson and Mrs. Mary Lee White all of Bay City; god-child, Mrs. Seretha F. Brown of Needville: 6 nieces. 8 nephews, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include: Romelus Francis, Pleas R. Mayfield, Roosevelt Robinson, Baker Smith, Mike Smith Jr. and Wilbert Smith. Funeral services will be held at Mother Zion Baptist Church Saturday, August 1, at 3 p.m. with Rev. L.R. James officiating. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery. Visitation hours are Friday evening, July 31. Penn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Woodworth Smith, 90, passed away Sunday, July 30, at his home in Bay City. Survivors include; wife, Mrs. Leama Smith; 4 daughters, Mrs. Mary Walls of Santa Barbara, Calif., Delcenia Smith, Mrs. Sallie Mayfield, Bay City; 1 step-daughter, Jessie Mae Thomas of Waco; 3 sons, Woodworth Smith Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Baker Smith of Oklahoma City and Robbie Smith of Whidby Island, Washington; 1 brother, Baker Smith of Bay City; 2 sisters.  Mrs. Maria Robinson of Bay City and Mrs. Carolyn Davis of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.  Services will be held Thursday, August 3, at 2:30 pm at Mother Lion Baptist Church with Rev. L. R. James officiating.  Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery. Penn Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Cheryl Rhynea Spiller Brown

Funeral services for Cheryl Rhynea Spiller Brown, 35, of Bay City, are scheduled for 2 pm Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating.  Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Visitation will be until 9 pm at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City and from 1-2 pm Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 10, 1958, in Bay City to Earl and Lillie Mae Woods Spiller and died Jan. 18, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Lee Brown of Bay City; three daughters, Saundra C. Preston, LaTasha Ralyne Brown and Shalandra Sheniece Brown, all of Bay City; a grandson, LeTevin Montre Wilcon of Bay City; her parents, Earl and Lillie Woods Spiller of Bay City; a brother, Earl G. Martin Spiller of Los Angeles, Calif.; father and mother-in-law, William Martin and Geraldine Brown Martin; a host of sisters and brother-in-law; five aunts, Hattie Woods Fields of Bay City, Irma Woods Thymes of Houston, Pearline Spiller Jackson of La Grange, Cleo Spiller Tucker of Houston and Naomi Spiller Harkless of Bay City; two uncles O. W. Woods Jr. of Dickerson, and Sam Woods of Houston; two great-aunts and great uncle, Catherine Fields Lewis, Evelyn Fields Thomas and Lawyer Fields Sr., all of Bay City; nieces and nephews and an extended family of cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Oscar Woods in 1981 and Ethel B. Lewis Woods in 1983, Tom Spiller in 1932, Virgie Fields Spiller Rhodes in 1970 and Elijah Rhodes in 1983 and by a brother and sister-in-law, Earl Spiller Jr. and Toni Petitt Spiller in 1991.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are the Bay City High School Class of 1977.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Ezell Spiller

Ezell Spiller, 80, of Bay City passed away August 19 at the Matagorda General Hospital.  Survivors include: two sons, Joe Spiller of Houston and Michael Ezell Spiller of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Alineice of San Diego, Calif. and Mrs. Mildred Smith of Bay City; six daughters, Mrs. Helen Beverly and Mrs. Marjorie Harris of Bay City, Mrs. Marion Way of Cocoa, Florida, Mrs. Vina Helms of Galveston, Mrs. Bobbie Tanner of Bay City and Mrs. Berneice Hardeman of Denison; three step-sons, Welton and C. D. Bouldin of Bay City, Jimmie Bouldin of Galveston; one brother, Alex Spiller of Van Vleck.  Survivors included 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Mother Zion Baptist Church of Bay City, Saturday August 24, at 2 pm with the Rev. L. R. James officiating.  Interment will be at the Eastview Cemetery, Bay City.  Pallbearers will be the members of the Gulf Coast Lodge No. 272 F & AM Masons.
