Memorial services for Mr. Melvin Whitley, 64, of Phoenix, Arizona, will be held Saturday, March 1, 1997, at 1 pm at the Jesus Free Will Holy Temple Church in Bay City, with Bishop J. Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

He was born in Bay City, Texas, March 27, 1932, to Marshall Whitley and Amy Mills Whitley, and passed away Feb. 20, 1997, in Phoenix, Arizona. Cremation was held following death.

Whitley, a former resident of Bay City, received his education from the A. G. Hilliard Public Schools in Bay City.  His Christian affiliations included membership with the Enterprise Baptist Church in Bay City, and Jesus Free-will Holy Temple Church in Bay City.

Survivors include two sisters Mrs. Dorothy Lee Taylor of Bay City and Mrs. Almeda Irons of Phoenix, Arizona; and one brother, Marshall Whitley, Jr. of Bay City.  Also one aunt, Mrs. Ida Whitley Hayes of Bay City, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a family of many friends.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Baugh, Mrs. Lorence Oliver and Mrs. Catherine Jones.
