Mrs. Pierce had received a letter Friday from her sister-in-law, a letter written in a manner that caused Mrs. Pierce to believe her sister-in-law and father-in-law thought she had been apprised of the death of her husband. Corporal Pierce had not changed his identification tag and consequently his father had been the first to have been notified. He received notice Tuesday. Corporal Pierce and Miss Annie Porter were married here July 20, 1942. He was at the time stationed at Camp Hulen. He volunteered under the Selective Service at New Orleans, December 23, 1941. He was assigned to a Louisiana C. A. (AA) unit and trained at Camp Hulen until May 1942. He was at Camp Young, Desert Training Center, Indio, California. From there he was transferred to Armored Field Artillery Unit and sent from there to Camp A. P. Hill at Frederickburg, Va. He was sent to foreign service in November 1942. He was a member in good standing of the Eureka Lodge No. 64 A. F. & A. M. of Greenville, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, his
father Curtis D. Pierce of Circkton [Crichton], Alabama, three
brothers and one sister of Mobile and Crickton [Crichton]. |

Military funeral services were held for T-5 Terril Pierce Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock and interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery. Both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars joined to conduct the services. Terril Pierce was born in Mobile, Alabama. He attended public schools in Mobile, became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Greenville, Alabama and was employed in telephone construction. He entered the armed services from New Orleans in December 1940 under the Selective Service Act. He received his training at Camp Hulen and Camp Indio. He and Miss Annie Laurie Porter were married at her home here in Bay City, July 20, 1942. He was among the initial forces in the North African campaign and was mortally wounded in action at Maknassy, Tunisia, April 2, 1943 while serving with Headquarters Battery, 62nd Battalion, First Armored Field Artillery. Besides his wife, Annie Porter Pierce, he is survived by his father, Curtis D. Pierce of Crighton [Crichton] Alabama; three brothers, Bernie of Baltimore, Oscar of Baton Rouge, J. C. of Bogaloosa and one sister, Mrs. Johnnie Mote of Baton Rouge.

Funeral services for Annie Porter Pierce, 82, of Bay City will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. W. E. Dugger Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Mrs. Pierce was born May 12, 1907 in Florence, Ala., to Robert Lee and Rose Ella Le May Porter and died Oct. 1, 1989, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1926. She was employed with Central Power and Light for 43 years before her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and James Birkner of Bay City; a sister, Rose Porter Pulliam of Searcy, Ark., and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews of Bay City and the surrounding area. Pallbearers include Ira Rose, C. J. Gaspard, Gregg Gaspard, W. P. Porter, Ladell Sump and Marvin Russell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terril Pierce, who was killed in Tunisia during World War II. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City. The Daily

The funeral of Mrs. Minnie Pierce 36 years old, wife of Curtis Pierce, who died at 12:12 o'clock Friday afternoon at her home on Mill street. Crichton, will take place at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home and at 3 o'clock at Palestine church, Wilmer. Mrs. Pierce is survived by four sons, Berney, J. C. Terrill and Oscar Pierce; a daughter, Gertrude Pierce; her father, Sam J. Miller; four brothers, Henry of Warren, O.; Jack of Jacksonville, Fla.; Sam of Theodore, and J. S. Miller of Mobile; four sisters, Mrs. J. F. Fort, of Jay, Fla.; Mrs. W. A. Nelson, of Birmingham, Mrs. J. B. Johnson of Birmingham, and Miss Willie Mae Miller of this city. Mobile

Mrs. Terril Pierce, the former Miss Annie Porter, received word here
Friday, in an indirect manner from her sister-in-law, in Alabama, of
the death of her husband, Corporal Pierce, killed in action in the
African war theater, in the service of his country.
