Annie Belle (Abernathy) Akers
October 25, 1885 - November 17, 1962

Annie and her husband Millard Edgar Akers (October 2, 1875 - July 20, 1955) are buried in the Angleton Cemetery, Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas. Their son Second Lieutenant Garland Akers (August 31, 1917 - December 26, 1944) United States Army was serving with the 390th Infantry Regiment, 75th Infantry Division when he was killed in action in Belgium. He was buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Henri Chapelle, Belgium. He was also survived by his wife, Emma (Gerhardt) {Akers} Williams and their daughter, Elizabeth Anne Akers. At the time of Garland's death, his wife and daughter were living in Deutschburg Community, Jackson County, Texas and his parents were living in Angleton, Texas. 

Annie Jewel (Haley) Allen

April 12, 1899 – September 8, 1961

Annie and her husband John R. Allen (February 23, 1894 – April 11, 1966) are buried at the Kosse City Cemetery, Kosse, Limestone County, Texas.  Their son Sergeant Mack Lawrence Allen, US Marine Corps, (January 5, 1925 – February 26, 1945), who died as a result of being involved in a motor vehicle accident at Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii is buried near them.

Cornelia “Nelia” (Johnson) Aubert
December 23, 1891 - May 8, 1990

Nelia donated her body to science. Nelia and her husband George A. Aubert (August 25, 1891 - September 23, 1936) lost two sons in service.

          Major George J. Aubert (March 14, 1915 - June 22, 1943), United States Army Air Forces  was killed in action and is buried at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu , Hawaii .

          Second Lieutenant William B. Aubert (Jan 29, 1922 - March 19, 1943), United States Army Air Forces died in service and is buried at Hasley Cemetery.

          Nelia's husband is buried in Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, Louisiana with their son. There is a marker for Nelia as well as a memorial marker for their son, George J. Nelia was probably living in Louisiana when her sons were killed and moved to Bay City in February of 1945.

 
Elizabeth Till (Burkett) Barlow
October 18, 1859 – June 7, 1925

Elizabeth and her husband Andrew Jackson Barlow (August 29, 1859 – March 18, 1929) are buried at Elm Grove Cemetery, Van Zandt County, Texas.  Their son Private First Class Joe Warren Barlow (November 5, 1898 – October 15, 1918), U.S. Army, died from combat wounds he received in France during WWI. He was attached to 144^th Infantry Regiment, 36^th Division (T Patch) and is buried at: Plot B, Row 1, Grave 49, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.  The family had lived in Palacios, Texas and it is believed Joe enlisted while in Palacios. At the time of his death the family was living in Mabank, Texas.

Coye Inez Hawkins Blaylock
November 30, 1901 - September 23 1978

Ruth (Martinez) Bopp
November 14, 1891 – December 20, 1966

Little information is known about Ruth (Martinez) Bopp.  She was married to George Bopp, Sr. (December 4, 1894 – June 8, 1947).  They were separated and she was living in Rossville, Atascosa County, Texas with her son, William Robert; George was living in Bay City working as a printer.  Their son, Private First Class George Bopp, Jr. (February 10, 1924 – April 1, 1945) was killed in action on  Ryuku Island, Okinawa fighting Japanese forces.  Ruth and George Jr. are buried at the Anchorage Methodist Church Cemetery, Anchorage, Atascosa County, Texas.  George Sr. is buried at the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.  George Jr. is not on the Matagorda County War Memorial due to the fact that he was not a Matagorda County resident, but he is remembered here because his father was living in Matagorda County at the time of his death. 

Winifred "Winnie" (Wilson) [LeTulle] Brewer
12 September 1890 - 10 September 1956

Winnie is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Dallas, Texas in Block 9, Lot 32, Space 10 with her second husband, Wesley Frank Brewer (1 February 1898 - 20 November 1957).  Her son, LTjg Lawrence Everett LeTulle (Jr) ( 27 April 1918 - 12 December 1944) by marriage to her first husband, Lawrence Everett LeTulle (Sr) (13 October 1879 - 21 February 1936) who is buried at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Texas, was killed in a shipboard accident near Peleliu Island in Micronesia, and was buried with full military honors at sea.

Florence (Jackson) {Wright} Caldwell
March _, 1886 – January 10, 1932

Florence and her second husband, Victor Mills Caldwell [August 3, 1890 – January 25, 1946], are buried at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.  They are buried near their son, Private First Class Clarence William Caldwell, U.S. Army [April 15, 1918 – February 20, 1945] who was serving with the 12^th Cavalry Regiment, 1^st Cavalry Division, when he was Killed in Action in the Battle of Manila, Manila, Philippine Islands.  Clarence was survived by his Father Victor; two sisters: Mrs. Joyce V. Hawley and Beatrice Caldwell Hawley; and four brothers:  Wesley and Clint Caldwell and William (Bill) and Juel Wright.

Vera Louise (Smith) Cameron
April 5, 1896 – February 21, 1925

Vera is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile County,  Alabama.  Her son Chief Boatswains Mate Daniel Earl Cameron (December 28, 1914 – September 8, 1942) U.S. Navy, was murdered aboard the USS Vagrant (PYc-30), a Coastal Patrol Boat, off the Rhode Island shores.  He is buried at the Mobile National Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama.  It is not presently known where her husband James Earl Cameron (June 23, 1890 – March 3, 1936) is buried.  He died in Dallas County, Texas.  Mrs. Cameron was survived by her husband, son and daughter Joyce Merle (Cameron) Orton.  In the 1920’s the family moved from Dallas County, Texas to Louisiana and then settled in Alabama.

Teodola Tilda (Barron) Campos

February 17, 1922 - October 9, 1998

Tilda and her husband Macario Bnansuela Campos, Jr. (January 12, 1913 – May 12, 1976) are buried at Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Travis County, Texas.  Their son Specialist Fourth Class Luis Barron Campos (August 25, 1948 – April 13, 1968) U.S. Army died as a result of an accidental fall from an upper story of the Kingsport Hotel which was located not far from the base.  The hotel was being utilized as off-base housing.  He was attached to the Phu Lam Signal Battalion, Regional Communications Group, 1^st Signal Brigade as a teletype operator.  Luis is buried in Section 8, Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas.  Besides his parents, he was survived by two sisters:  Maria Virginia and Mari Anna; and three brothers:  Joe, Johnny and Macario III.  At the time of his death the family was living in Bay City.

Mary Ellen "Ella" (Wyman) {Highland} Cherry
November 12, 1863 - December 11, 1937

Ella is buried at the Eagle Lake Masonic Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Colorado County, Texas next to her first husband, Philip William Highland, who died on  June 7, 1891. All of Ella's children are buried near her: Private William Richard Cherry; Ella (Highland) Stinnett, died March 13, 1970; Sarah Highland, died August 31, 1895; Annie Beard Highland, died January 21, 1884; and Ellen Highland, died c 1883.  Her son Private William Richard Cherry  United States Marine Corps, who died of broncho-pneumonia in a base hospital in Germany from the effects of being gassed at the front complicated by the Spanish Flu during World War I, is buried next to her. He was first buried in Germany and was buried in the  Eagle Lake Masonic Cemetery on August 18, 1920. At the time of his death his mother was living in Bay City, Texas with her daughter, Mrs. Allen E. Stinnett. Private Cherry's father, Stephen William Cherry, died in Alaska and his date of death and burial location are unknown.   

Nettie Irene (Jones) Copeland
September 1894 - January 13, 1981

Nettie and her husband Jack ErastusCopeland (April 9, 1891 - May 21, 1970) are buried near their son First Lieutenant William E. Copeland (April 25, 1913 - October 24, 1944), United States Army who was killed in action at Leyte, Philippines. They are buried at the Center Hill Cemetery, Oakhurst, San Jacinto County, Texas .  He was also survived by his wife Mary (Zipprian) Copeland and their children, William Edward, Jr. and Anna Belle. At the time of his death his parents were living in San Jacinto County and his wife and children were living with her mother, Minnie Belle Zipprian, at Matagorda, Texas.

Annie Frances (Burford) Dacke
December 02, 1899 - November 26, 1945

 Annie is buried at Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas and her husband Elmer Bruce "E.B." Dacke (March 28, 1894 - March 14, 1968) is buried in Section A, Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, Texas.  Their son Seaman First Class John Harold Dacke (December 11, 1925 - February 21, 1945), United States Navy was killed in action when his ship the USS Bismarck Sea was sunk by the Japanese off Iwo Jima.  His remains were not recovered and he is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.  He is also survived by his wife Oree (Clements) Dacke. At the time of his death his family lived at Cedar Lane.

Lula May (Troutman) Foster
November 26, 1893 – December 10, 1971

Lula is buried in the City of Altoona Cemetery, Altoona , Wilson County, Kansas. She returned to her family home in Kansas after the deaths of her daughter (1913 - 1920, son and husband. Lula’s husband, Forest R. Foster (October 30, 1889 - February 14, 1962) is buried at Cedarvale Cemetery in Section 3, Row 15 next to their son Staff Sergeant William Newton Foster (June 11, 1917 – November 14, 1943) United States Army Air Forces. William was killed in an airplane crash near Tobruk, Libya. He was first buried at El Alia Cemetery, Algiers, Algeria then reinterred in Cedarvale Cemetery beside his sister on June 23, 1949. At the time of his death his family was living in Garwood, Texas.

Louisa (Bernard) Foisy

Louisa is buried at Saint Peters Cemetery, Block 1, Lot 39, Grave 2, in Jefferson, Union County, South Dakota. After her death, her husband, Alfred  Frederick Foisy (July 20, 1865 - January 22, 1935) and children moved to Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas. Mr. Foisy was buried at Palacios Cemetery. Their son, Wagoner Cyrille Marion Foisy (December 11, 1893 – February 8, 1919) U.S. Army, in Section 4, Row 2, Palacios Cemetery, Matagorda County, Texas.  He was killed in an accident in Germany during WWI where he was serving with the Army of Occupation. He was returned to Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas for re-burial.

 Johnnie May is buried in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas with her husband, Fred W. Fuqua (April 14, 1898 – November 30, 1962). Their son Private Porter F. Fuqua (September 3, 1920 - December 11, 1944), United States Army was killed in action and is buried at  Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Henri-Chapelle, Belgium. The family lived in Potter County and it is believed that Porter's connection to Matagorda County was through his wife, Helen (Bayne/Bain) Fuqua.

Elizabeth is buried with her husband Verner Clive Glenn (November 5, 1894 - April 2, 1959) at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Elizabeth’s son Lieutenant Jack H. Glenn (August 16, 1923 - July 7, 1944), United States Army Air Forces was killed in action over Germany during World War II.  He is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium.  At the time of his death his family was living in Bay City, Texas.

Maria (Roma) Gusman
May 5, 1884 - June 3, 1960

Maria is buried beside her husband, Bernardo Gusman (June 21, 1878 – February 22, 1965) at Rose Hill Cemetery (today Rose Hill Memorial Park), Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas in unmarked graves. Their son, Staff Sergeant Manuel Gusman (July 1, 1921 – August 4, 1944) U.S. Army, was Killed In Action in the vicinity of Tinchebray, France shortly after the Normandy invasion. He was a member of company C, 23^rd Infantry Regiment, 2^nd Infantry Division. He was first buried at the temporary battlefield cemetery of St. Laurent (today it is the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial). His remains were repatriated to the United States in 1948 and he was reinterred at Cedarvale Cemetery, Section 3, Block 5, on September 18, 1948 with full military honors. Besides his parents, he was survived by his wife, Lucia (Carrio) (December 13, 1922 – October 25, 2003), two sisters, Gloria and Mary Gusman of Wharton, and three brothers, Jo, Jesse and Tony of Corpus Christi.

Alma and her husband William. B. Haines (c 1893- October 6, 1933) are buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Houston, Texas.  Their son Staff Sergeant Luke Morris Haines (June 26, 1914 - April 13, 1944), United States Army Air Forces was killed in action over Germany.  He is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold, France.  At the time of his death his mother was living in Bay City.

Pauline (Martin) Henton
 August 10, 1906 - October 27, 1984

Pauline and her husband Elmer Allan Henton, Sr. (November 8, 1901 - March 2, 1979), donated their bodies to the Baylor College of Medicine.  Their only child, Staff Sergeant Elmer Allan Henton, Jr., (June 26, 1931 - August 3, 1959) United States Air Force is buried at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, Matagorda County, Texas.  Allan was killed in an automobile accident at Mountsorrell near Leicester, Leicester County, England.  At the time of his death his parents were living in Old Ocean, Brazoria County, Texas.

Elma is buried with her husband George Thomas Hobbins, Sr. (May 12, 1894 - March 17, 1960)  next to their son Private First Class Abner Lee Hobbins (January 24, 1920 - October, 1942), United States Army Air Forces at the Wharton City Cemetery, Wharton, Texas.  Abner died in an automobile accident at Rutland, Vermont.  He was stationed at Westover Field, Massachusetts.  At the time of his death his family lived in Pledger, Texas. *grave marker spelled Elma, obituary spelled Alma.

Frances and her husband Vincent L. Holub (January 21, 1886 - December 14, 1951) are buried next to their son Technical Sergeant Libor J. Holub (December 18, 1915 - March 24, 1944), United States Army Air Forces who was killed in action over Germany.  They are buried in the Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery, Wallis, Texas.  At the time of his death his family was living in Bay City, Texas.

Letha and her husband John Eston Hutchison (October 14, 1880 - May 17, 1936) are buried in Itasca Cemetery, Itasca, Hill County, Texas. Their son Second Lieutenant Clifford Clark Hutchison (October 22, 1919 - May 12, 1944) United States Army Air Forces is also buried there. Clark was killed in an airplane crash in Virginia. His brother, John Elton Hutchison, was teaching at Bay City High School at the time of his death and his parents were living in Hill County.

Ann is buried beside her son at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Victoria, Texas. Ann and her husband Samuel G. Kaiser are the parents of Staff Sergeant Larry Kurt Kaiser (September 3, 1943 - April 30, 1970, United States Army who was killed in action at Binh Thuy, South Vietnam.  At the time of his enlistment the family was living in Bay City and at the time of his death his family lived in Columbus, Texas.

Antonie and her husband Ernest Felix Krenek (June 9, 1902 - April 6, 1981) are buried at the Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Nada, Colorado County, Texas. Their son, Second Lieutenant Raymond Sylvester Krenek (December 31, 1930 - April 7, 1953), United States Air Forces was killed in a non-battle aircraft crash off the coast of Korea.  A memorial marker was placed at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in his memory. At the time of his death his family lived in Markham, Texas.

Lula Moselle (Graves) Lamb
___ __, 1894 - January 14, 1924 

Lula and her husband John Franklin Lamb (October 3, 1890 - June 20, 1938 - grave monument gives June 27, 1938) are buried next to their son Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class J. Paul Lamb (December 19, 1913 - November 12, 1944), U.S. Navy, who was Killed In Action at San Pedro Bay, Philippine Islands during the Leyte Islands operations, when a Japanese kamikaze plane struck his ship in the area where he was located.  They are buried at Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randleman, Randolph County, North Carolina.

Corinne and her husband, Maj. John W. Lipscomb, Sr. (October 5, 1891 - July 8, 1986), are buried at Lockhart City Cemetery, Caldwell County, Texas with their son Private Jack Storey Lipscomb (November 28, 1925 - March 3, 1945) United States Marine Corps. He was killed in action on Iwo Jima. PFC Lipscomb was raised in Palacios from the age of nine, attended Palacios schools and graduated from Palacios High School. At the time of his death, his family was living in Austin, Texas.

Matilda and her first husband, Jindrich (Henry) Adamcik (January 8, 1898 - October 12, 1930) are buried in the Holman (St. Wenceslaus) Catholic Cemetery in Holman, Texas. Their son, Staff Sergeant Allen A. Adamcik (December 27, 1919 - August 2, 1944), United States Army was killed in action in France during WWII. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France. At the time of his death, his family was living near Midfield and he was the first war casualty from the Midfield area.

Annie is buried at Shelmond Cemetery, Shelmond, Marion County, Tennessee. After her death her husband Henry Clemmon McCullough (March 8, 1885 – February 26, 1934), son Sergeant Henry Lee McCullough, US Army (March 10, 1920 – February 12, 1945) and Henry C.’s mother Marjorie K. McCullough moved to Brazoria County, Texas to live with Henry C.’s sister Mrs. Maud C. Pitt. Henry C. married Alma Alene Tollison (January 11, 1915 – April 2, 1997) on January 14, 1934 and died one month later. Henry C. is buried in Sweeny Cemetery, Sweeny, Texas. Henry Lee then moved to Matagorda County with his step-mother, and they were living here when he joined the service in 1940. When he was killed in action at Luxembourg, France his step-mother and other family members were still living in Bay City. Henry Lee served with the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division and is buried at Plot K Row 20 Grave 24 at Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold, France. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal.

Dorothy is the mother of Sergeant First Class Cecil A. Meares (December 10, 1929 - September 23, 1967), United States Army who is on the Matagorda County Veterans Memorial.  His father is L. Abner Meares. He was killed in action in South Vietnam. Sergeant First Class Meares never lived in Matagorda County, though his wife had family here. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Robeson County, North Carolina. His mother is buried at Fayetteville, North Carolina.  He is survived by his wife Freddie, his daughters Dorothy and Louise and sons Carris and Donal.  At the time of his death his family was living in North Carolina.

Maria Gertrudis "Gertrude" (Campos) Nieto
 May 20, 1901 – November 15, 1967

Gertrude is the mother of Private First Class Vicente Campos Nieto, Jr., United States Army, 182^nd Infantry Regiment, American Division who is on the Matagorda County Veterans Memorial.  He was killed in action during the invasion of the Philippine Islands by the United States.  Private First Class Nieto never lived in Matagorda County.  He is buried at Hill of Rest Cemetery, Baytown, Harris County, Texas.  Gertrude is buried at Memory Gardens Cemetery AKA Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery also in Baytown.  Vicente Rosales Nieto, Sr. (April 5, 1890 - December 17, 1932) is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Pasadena, Harris County, Texas. At the time of his death the family was living in Baytown, Texas.

Ella is buried next to her son at Hillside Cemetery, Cuero, DeWitt County, TX.  Her husband Robert Abner Partain is buried at the Partain Family Cemetery near Blessing, Matagorda County, TX.  Their son Private A. Burns Partain, USMC died of Bronco[sic] Pneumonia ( probable Spanish Flu) onboard the troop transport ship USS Von Steuben at Brest, France.  His remains were returned to Texas and he was interred at the Hillside Cemetery, Cuero, Texas.

Annie and her husband John W. Parten (August 27, 1892 - November 24, 1962) are buried at Sweeny Cemetery, Sweeny, Texas close to their son Captain Kenneth M. Parten (January 6, 1921 - March 18, 1948), United States Air Force. Captain Parten was killed in a plane crash while on a training mission out of Mac Dill Air Force Base, Florida.  At the time of his death his family lived in Sweeny, Texas.

Mary died on October 25, 1923 and is buried at Cottonwood Cemetery, near Duke, Oklahoma. Mary and her husband John F. Queen (March 10, 1880 - April 11, 1946) are the parents of Second Lieutenant William Lloyd Queen (November 9, 1917 - December 24, 1943), United States Army Air Forces who was killed in action in Italy during World War II.  At the time of his death his family lived in Palacios, Texas.  He was the first World War II casualty for the Palacios area. John and William are buried in Section 4 of the Palacios Cemetery. The Palacios VFW Post 2467 was originally named in honor of William. During the Vietnam War it was co-named Queen-Hamlin to also honor William Lloyd Hamlin who was a Vietnam KIA and the nephew of Lt. Queen.

 

Rosa Bell and her husband John Roberson (April 1855* - March 3, 1929) are the parents of Private Mashack** Roberson (November 15, 1890* - April  30, 1919) who died of probable Spanish Flu in France during WWI.  His unit, Company A, 514th Engineer Service Battalion, 185th Infantry Brigade,  93rd Infantry Division (Red Hand Division) was attached to the French Army  when he died.  He is buried at the Old Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Don  Tol, Wharton County, Texas, near Pledger, Matagorda County, Texas. Rosa Bell  and John are buried near him.

* The 1900 Matagorda County Census gives the following dates of Birth: Mashack Feb 1892; Rosa Bell Jan 1855; John Apr 1852.

**Private Roberson's name is spelled Meshack on all records except the  grave marker which has Mashack.

 

Augusta and her husband Friedrich Henry Schmidt, Sr. (October 7, 1868 - September 1, 1949) are buried at the Deutschburg Cemetery in Deutschburg, Jackson County, Texas. They were the parents of Second Engineer Frederick Henry Schmidt, Jr. (June 16, 1908 - March 17, 1943) United States Merchant Marines. Frederick was killed in action in the North Atlantic when his ship, SS Harry Luckenbach was torpedoed by German U-Boat 91. Only twenty-eight of the fifty-four aboard survived. At the time of his death, Frederick's father was living at Deutschburg, Texas.

 

Josephine and her husband Ignac D. Senkyrik, Sr. (March 16, 1881 - September 12, 1973) are buried at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, El Campo, Texas.  Their son Corporal Ignac D. Senkyrik, Jr. (August 25, 1910 - February 17, 1945), United States Army died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Japan.  It was found that Corporal Senkyrik had been cremated.  His cremains, though comingled with others, was inurned at the Yokohama Cremation Memorial, located within the Yokohama British Commonwealth War Cemetery.   At the time of his death his family lived at Markham, Texas.

 

Ola is buried at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Richard, Acadia Parish, Louisiana beside her husband, Robert Fulton Stagg (November 8, 1858 - August 10, 1932). They were the parents of Private Malcolm Murphy Stagg (April 29, 1892 - September 13, 1918) United States Marine Corps who was killed in action while serving with the 6th United States Marine Corps Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. His body was never recovered and he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. At the time of his death his parents were living in Church Point, Acadia Parish, Louisiana. Malcolm and his brother, Hurchell, were residents of Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas at the time of the draft registration on June 5, 1917. (Information contributed by Judy Trahan Wostal.)

Lora and her husband Lt. Col. Ret. Harry Allan Stahlstrom (September 9, 1920 - October 10, 1986) United States Marine Corps are buried at Seaside Memorial Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Their son Warrant Officer Allan Emile Stahlstrom (May 12, 1948 - May 10, 1969) United States Army was killed in action in South Vietnam when his UH-1C Huey gunship (66-15085) was shot down south of Cu Chi in the Hau Nghia Province. He is buried at Prairie View Cemetery in Aransas Pass, Texas. Even though Allan's name is on the Matagorda County War Memorial, he never lived in Matagorda County. His family lived on Markham Street in Portland, Texas at the time of his death. His home of record was inadvertently listed as Markham, Texas in his military records. Geneva and her husband James Cleveland Stell (November 10, 1887 - September 4, 1966) are buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna, Jackson County, Texas. Their son Sergeant Charles Elroy Stell (June 14, 1914 - December 28, 1944*) United States Army Air Forces died in an airplane crash over England. Charles was first buried in Cambridge Cemetery, England and his remains were reinterred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on August 5, 1948. He was also survived by his wife, Doris (Seerden) {Stell} Liggett/Leggett. At the time of his death his family was living in Bay City.
