Willie M. Powell


Willie Mae Powell

Willie Mae Powell, a former Foster Mother and Homemaker passed away July 9, 1985 after a lengthy illness.

Willie Mae Henry Powell was born to Mrs. Elizabeth and Mr. Wiley Henry, in Matagorda County, Texas on October 4, 1921.

Sister Powell was baptized at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Markham by the late Rev. Judge Brown at an early age.

She married David Hamilton. To this union a son, David, Jr. was born.

Sister Willie Mae Hamilton united with the Enterprise Baptist Church during the early 1950s and remained a member until she moved to California where she united with a Baptist Church there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Powell.

She is survived by one son, David, Jr. of Houston, daughter-in-law, Berthena of Houston, three sisters, Berniece Blackmon of Markham, Ada Lee Eason of Angleton and Jewel Brown of Houston, one brother, Burrell James Henry of Calif., four grandchildren, two uncles, Edward Franklin of Richmond and Isiah Dillingham of Galveston, two aunts, Tenola Richardson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dorcas Dillingham of Bay City and many other relatives and friends.

Allie Mae Ray



 

Allie Mae Ray

Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Dobbins on June 15, 1907 in the City of La Grange, Texas, a girl named Allie Mae.

At the age of sixteen, she joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. L. J. Slack.

On October 26, 1926, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Louis Ray, Sr. To this union eight children were born, Gaynor, James, Clyde, Velma, Louis, Jr., Vivian, Helen and Donald. Two preceded her in death.

In 1945, the family moved to Markham, Texas. She became a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Fritz Thompson, where she remained until death.

On Tuesday, March 29, 1977, she departed this life at Center Pavilion Hospital in Houston, Texas. She leaves to mourn her passing, three daughters, Velma Austin of Houston, Vivian Callis of Galveston, Helen Ray of El Campo, three sons, James Ray of Hitchcock, Louis Ray, Jr. of Bay City, Donald Ray of Lovelady, one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Dickerson of San Antonio, two brothers, Seth Dobbins of La Grange, Ed Dobbins of La Grange, twenty-two grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Helen Ray

Funeral services for Ms. Helen Louise Ray, 51, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996, at 2 p. m., at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, with Rev. James Ashton, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Markham Cemetery in Markham. Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church.

She was born in Bay City, Texas, Wednesday, August 22, 1945, to Louis Ray and Allie Mae Dobbins Ray, and passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 1996, at Columbia Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Helen was a 1963 graduate of Hilliard High School in Bay City, and a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham.

Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Djuana Ray of Houston, and three grandchildren, Montrell, Darrian and Helena Ray. Also her father, Louis Ray, Sr. of Bay City, two sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Velma Foley (& Albert) of Houston, and Ms. Vivian Ray of Galveston; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis Ray, Jr. (& Joyce) of Bay City, and Donald Ray (& Belinda) of Friendswood.

She leaves a niece and nephew-in-law, Mrs. Myra Ware (& Leonard) of Galveston, and a nephew, Gerald Wayne Callis of Houston. Also one aunt, Mrs. Eliza Brown of West Texas City, a special friend, Mrs. Willie Mae Sardinea of Markham, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Allie Mae Ray, one sister, Gaynor Allen, and one brother, James Ray.

Active pallbearers will include Louis Ray, III, Roderick Ray, Leonard Ware, Gerald Wayne Callis, Jesse Austin, Elgin Widemon and John Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Louis Ray, Jr., Donald Ray, Michael Ray, Adlai Ray and Albert Foley.

Helen Louise Ray

On Wednesday, August 22, 1945, a baby girl was born to Louis Ray, Sr. and Allie Mae Dobbins Ray in Bay City, Texas.

She attended grade school in El Maton, Texas, and continued her education at Hilliard High School in Bay City, Texas. Later, she enrolled in Massey Business School in San Antonio, Texas.

Helen was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas.

She departed this life Monday, September 23, 1996, at Columbia Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City, Texas.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Djuana Ray of Houston, and three grandchildren, Montrell, Darrian and Helena Ray. Also her father, Louis Ray, Sr. of Bay City, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Velma Foley (& Albert) of Houston, and Ms. Vivian Ray of Galveston. Also two brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis Ray, Jr. (& Joyce) of Bay City, and Donald Ray (& Belinda) of Friendswood, Texas. She also leaves a very devoted niece and nephew-in-law, Mrs. Myra Ware (& Leonard) of Galveston, and a very devoted nephew, Gerald Wayne Callis of Houston. Also one aunt, Mrs. Eliza Brown of West Texas City, a very special friend, Mrs. Willie Mae Sardinea of Markham; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Louis Ray


Funeral services for Mr. Louis L. Ray, age 95, of Markham, will be held Saturday, March 8, 1997, at 11 a. m., at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, with Rev. James C. Ashton, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery in Markham. Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 10 to 11 a. m. at the church.

Ray was born in LaGrange, Texas, April 6, 1901, to Louis Ray, Sr. and Julia Ray, and passed away Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at the Legacy-Matagorda House in Bay City.

He moved into the family to Markham, Texas in 1945, and united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. There, he remained until his demise.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law Mrs. Velma Foley (& Albert) of Houston, and Ms. Vivian Ray of Galveston; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Louis E. Ray (& Joyce) of Bay City, and Donald Ray (& Belinda) of Friendswood.

Also one sister, Mrs. Eliza Brown of Texas City, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Allie Dobbins Ray, four children, Gaynor Allen, Helen Ray, James Ray and Clyde Ray; three sisters, Evelyn, Alberta and Mattie, and three brothers, Robert, Albert and Leslie.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Louis Ray, III, Roderick Ray, Leonard Ware, Jesse Austin, John Nelson, Elgin Widemon, Gerald Wayne Callis and Robert Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Louis Ray, Jr., Donald Ray, Michael Ray, Adlai Ray, and Albert Foley.

Louis L. Ray

Louis L. Ray, the son of (now the late) Louis and Julia Ray, was born in LaGrange, Texas, Saturday, April 6, 1901. He shared his upbringing with family and friends, and lived a full life of four score years and fifteen.

He attended public school in the community of his birth. Also, with his family, he attended the church services.

On October 26, 1926, Louis Ray was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Allie Mae Dobbins. To this union, eight children were born; Gaynor, James, Clyde, Velma, Louis, Vivian, Helen and Donald Ray. They provided these children with the tender love and care essential for growth and development. In appreciation, this love was restored genuinely.

In 1945, the Ray family moved to Markham, Texas. There, Louis placed membership with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he remained faithful until his demise.

His transition from this life came Wednesday, March 5, 1997 at the Legacy-Matagorda House. By his passing at 95 years, 10 months and 27 days, he leaves many loving memories to two daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Velma Foley (& Albert) of Houston, and Ms. Vivian Ray of Galveston; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Louis E. Ray (& Joyce) of Bay City and Donald Ray (& Belinda) of Friendswood. Also one sister Mrs. Eliza Brown of Texas City; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

Billy Reddic

Funeral services for Billy Reddic, 67, of Markham, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, with burial to follow at Markham Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Billy B. Reddic

Billy B. Reddic was born on April 3, 1943, in Markham, TX to Sylvester and L. E. Reddic.

He attended public school and church in Markham.

He served his country in the Vietnam war.

In 1970, a special companion came into his life, Mary L. Humphrey. There was one child born to this union, but they raised three together.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Sylvester and L. E. Reddic, two brothers: William and Isaac Reddic; two sisters, Ethel Brown and Mamie Coulter, and his life long companion, Mary L. Reddic.

He leaves to cherish his memories, 1 brother, Callis Reddic of Lake Jackson, TX; 4 children, Billy Reddic Jr. of California, Pearlee Yvette Myles, Jeffery Dwayne Humphrey and Darrell Dwayne Humphrey all of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Isaac G. Reddic

Isaac George Reddic

On April 25, 1953, a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Reddic in Markham, Texas whom they named Isaac George Reddic.

In December, 1972, he was united in marriage to Miss Lynn Patton, to this union, one son was born, Everett Lamont.

He departed this life on December 14, 1980. Survivors are wife and son, mother, Mrs. L. E. Reddic, three brothers, Billy Reddic of Houston, William and Callis Reddic of Markham, three sisters-in-law, Mary of Houston, Darlene and Ethal of Markham, three uncles, William and Ray Blackmon of Markham, Clay Brazil of Markham, five aunts, Lear Esther of El Campo, Georgia Sifor and Annie Mullins of Sweet Home, Pearline Roberson of Houston and Bert Webbs of Blessing, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. L. E. Reddic, 89, formerly of Markham, will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas, with the Rev. James Ashton, Jr. eulogist. Burial will follow at Markham Cemetery in Markham.

Visitation will be Tuesday until 9 p.m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born in Sweet Home, Texas, Sunday, April 9, 1911, and passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include: two sons, Billy Reddic and Mary of Houston, and Callis Reddic of Angleton; 16 grandchildren-six of whom she reared, Bridget White and Lee, and Ramona Coulter, all of Houston, David Reddic and Andrea of Seguin, Aletha Coulter and Daniel of Danevang, Sherry Lewis and Chester and Dexter Brown and Margaret, all of Bay City; two sisters, Pearline Robinson of Houston, and Catherine Grant of Sweet Home; a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

L. E. Blackmon Reddic

On Sunday, April 9, 1911, a daughter was born to Mrs. Nannie Blackmon in Sweet Home, Texas, whom she named L. E. Backmon.

She grew up in the community of her birth along with her siblings, family and friends. She also attended public school and church.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Sylvester Reddic. To this union, six children were born. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren.

Her life came quietly to a close on Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 27 days.

Many loving memories will always remain in the hearts of her two sons, Billy Reddic (& Mary) of Houston and Callis Reddic of Angleton; and 16 grandchildren – 6 of whom she reared, Bridgett White (& Lee) and Ramona Coulter all of Houston, David Reddic (& Andrea) of Seguin, Aletha Coulter (& Daniel) of Danevang, Sherry Lewis (& Chester) and Dexter Brown (& Margaret) all of Bay City. Also two sisters, Pearline Robinson of Houston and Catherine Grant of Sweet Home; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Reddic, three daughters, Mammie Coulter, Ethel Brown and Willie Mae Reddic and three sons, LeRoy Reddic, William Reddic and Isaac Reddic.
