Benjamin M. Gainer, Sr., 66, of Victoria passed away Nov. 27, 1996 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. He was born Nov. 22, 1930 in Clemville, Texas to Hen Albert Gainer, Sr. and Winny Rice Gainer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, had served on the Board of Trustees for Tidehaven School District during the 1970’s, was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Victoria, and retired in March 1996 from Seadrift Pipeline after 42 years of service. Her is survived by his wife, Mary Carolyn Gainer of Victoria; by three sons, Benjamin Gainer, Jr. of Houston, David K. Gainer of Victoria, and Michael T. Gainer of Victoria; by two sisters, Joyce T. Beaty of Palacois and Merry Brown of Tres Palacios Oaks; by one brother, Henry Albert Gainer, Jr. of Goliad; by eight grandchildren, Molly Ann Gainer, Erin Gainer, Michelle Gainer, David K. Gainer, Jr., Michael T. Gainer, Jr., Elizabeth Gainer, Benjamin Gainer, III and Christine Gainer, and by one great grandchild, Ashley Nicole Gainer. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a. m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Graveside funeral services for Henry Gainer, 75, of Goliad will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, June 11, 1999 at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing with Rev. Ed. Rowley, Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez, Tex., officiating. Mr. Gainer died June 9 at Detar Hospital in Victoria. He was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Clemville to the late Henry Albert and Winnie Viola Rice Gainer, Sr. He was raised in Matagorda County and attended the Markham School system. Mr. Gainer is survived by his son Harry Gainer; sister Merry Brown or Blessing; sister-in-law, Mary C. Gainer of Victoria; and brother-in-law J. R. Beaty of Palacios. A lifelong resident of Bay City, Galle died Tuesday at her home. Galle was born Aug. 13, 1949 in Bay City to the late Rabb Wesley Vaughan and Joanna Elliott Vaughan. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Galle was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Galle on Feb. 27, 1983. Nan was a longtime resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Bay City. Funeral services were held Monday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home here for Mrs. Blake Edith Garner, 70, of Bay City, descendant of early Texas ranchers. Mrs. Garner died Sunday in the Hermann Hospital, after a brief illness. A native of Midfield, Mrs. Garner had lived in Bay City since 1919. Her father, the late W. E. McSparran, was a prominent rancher in Matagorda County and took part in the early Chisholm Trail cattle drives to Kansas City. Mrs. Garner, widow of David H. Garner, Bay City cattleman, was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James P. Coulter of Houston and Mrs. Travis Dodd of Freeport; a son, Martin of Daisetta; a sister, Mrs. R. E. Coffin of Midfield; a brother, N. K. McSparran of Sheridan; and five grandchildren.

Mr. David Harmon Garner, age 61 years, 6 months and 7 days, passed away, Friday morning at the family residence in Bay City, following an illness of very short duration. Mr. Garner, affectionately known and loved all over this section of this state, having made his home in this vicinity all of his life. His birthplace was Port Lavaca, but for many years he has been a resident of Bay City, living here and working here and rearing his family. Mr. Garner survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Coulter of Houston and Miss Cleo Garner of Bay City. One son, Martin Garner of Houston. Funeral services were held at Taylor Brothers Funeral home at 3:00 p. m. this afternoon with the Reverend Ernest Deutsch officiating. Active pallbearers were Bert Carr, Bob Harrison, W. B. Vandiver, John T. Bond, Till Bond and R. B. Dennis. Burial was in Hawley Cemetery. The Tribune joins the many friends of the family in extending heartfelt sympathy in this hour of grief.

Frank A. Gayle, 93, of Markham passed away Sunday, August 26, 2001. He was born July 18, 1908 in Crockett, Texas to Franklin A. Gayle and Essie Leathers Gayle. He is survived by: his loving wife, Minnie O. “Tootsie” Gayle of Markham; sisters, Essie Richey and Regina Burford, both of Houston; brother, W. F. “Billy” Gayle of DeSoto, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Charles Parr of Markham, John C. Sardelich of Palacios, and Johnny Henderson and Doug Gayle of LaWard, Texas. Frank A. Gayle was instrumental in forming the Texas Gas Association and was recognized for his substantial and enduring contribution to the natural gas industry in Texas and was presented a life member award on June 26, 1995 by the Texas Gas Association. Frank A. Gayle owned and operated the Markham Gas Corporation from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. Through his generosity many young people received college educations and vocational training. Frank Gayle was especially concerned for the elderly and less fortunate and through his loving generosity helped without them ever knowing. Frank Gayle will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him. Men like Frank Gayle are what other men should strive to be with examples that he practiced with faith in his God and love of family and friends. A Funeral service will be held at 10 a. m. Minnie Ola “Tootsie” Gayle, 88, of Markham died at her residence October 24, 2001. She was born October 12, 1913 near Madisonville, Madison County, Texas to the late Dane Lawson and Minnie Myrtle Marlin Bullington. Kenneth George, 83, of Waco, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with the Chaplain Bob Harr officiating. Mrs. Gibbens was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Wichita, Kan., to Lloyd E. and Billie Childers Shilling and died June 1, 1994, in Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson. Formerly of Bay City, she has resided in Stafford for the past 23 years and was employed as an administrator in electronics education with Texas Instruments of Stafford. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweeny and the Texas Instruments Secretarial Council. Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Hammond of Sweeny and Diana McAuley of Houston; two sons, Clyde Gibbens of Sweeny and David Gibbens of Van Vleck; a brother, John Shilling of Sweeny; five grandchildren, Wendy Tabone, David R. Eva Emily Williams Gibbens, 96, formerly of Bay City, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 26, in Katy, Texas. She was born January 29, 1916 in Whitesboro, Oklahoma to the late Ben and Bertha Williams. After her mother’s death, she continued to raise her four younger brothers. She moved to Bay City in 1940 where she met her future husband, Don. They married on May 17, 1941 and resided in Bay City until 2006 when they moved to an assisted living facility in Katy closer to their children. She was a charter member of Golden Avenue Baptist Church, formerly Baptist Temple, in 1949. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who enjoyed spending time with those she loved. Her serving spirit, easy smile and graceful attitude were an example to all. Eva loved and faithfully served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, until her death and is now celebrating with Him in Heaven. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by all her siblings - one sister and four brothers. Survivors include: her husband of 71 years, Don Gibbens; children, Wayne & Bobbie Gibbens and Gayle & Charles Jurecka; grandchildren, Darla & Terry Heeringa, Karen & Steve Kalmus and Ron & Kazuko Gibbens; great-grandchildren, Emily & Rachel Heeringa, Austin & Hunter Kalmus and Eva Gibbens; and sister-in-law, Mary Gibbens. Mary Burrows Gibbens, 96, of Sugar Valley stepped over into Heaven on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Sweeny, Texas. She was born March 23, 1916 in Manvel, Texas to the late Mr. and Mrs. Burrows. Mary was a lifelong resident of Sugar Valley, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and a child of God. She was known to everyone as “Granny Gibbens.” Granny’s first passion was Jesus Christ her Lord, and second was her family. She cooked the best Sunday dinners, and she made sure everyone was always welcome. Granny also enjoyed cooking for the Tuesday night men’s prayer group. Her cooking was a way of showing her love for everyone, and everyone loved her cooking. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Granny enjoyed sewing and making beautiful quilts. You could always find a baby calf in her back yard that she was bottle-feeding, and she loved to show off. Granny will be greatly missed, however we know she is rejoicing in Heaven. Survivors include: her three daughters, Ann Blackmon, Jean Talafuse and Bonnie Heidrich and husband Buddy; 14 grandchildren, Kelly Blackmon Ross, Debbie Gibbens, Paula Blackmon, Ramona Gibbens, Shanda Heidrich Pennington, Stacia Heidrich Taylor, Mary Blackmon Amick, Richard Gibbens, Jr., Gelinda Backman, Darrel Heidrich, Connie Blackmon, Nora Talafuse, Sheryl Bell, and Jackie Gibbens; 34 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren; also the Rev. Donald and Sarah Reed, son and daughter in Christ. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her husband of 74 years, Earl Gibbens in 2006; two sons, Richard and Jack William Gibbens; two granddaughters, Robin Gibbens and Vickie Sharp; and grandson, Rocky Gibbens. One man was killed and two persons injured in a two-car Labor Day Weekend collision near Old Ocean about 11:40 p. m. Friday. Trueworth Gibbens, 35, of Rt. 1 Sweeny, was killed instantly while driving west on Highway 35 when a car driven by Johnny Ray Parks 22-year-old Houston Negro crashed into the rear of the car, State Highway Patrolman Gilbert ___ said. Gibbens was the first traffic fatality in Matagorda County during the Labor Day Weekend, officers said. Miss Carolyn Haynes, 25, of West Columbia, who was a passenger in the car with Gibbens was also injured in the crash and her condition was reported fair in Matagorda County General Hospital. Parks was admitted to the hospital and left Sunday. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m Monday at Baptist Temple for Gibbens. Rev. Horace Goodman, pastor of Baptist Temple, officiated at the service. Interment in Hawley Cemetery. Gibbens is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eunice Gibbens, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Gibbens of Sweeny; two daughters, Yvonne and Diana, of Sweeny; two sons, Clyde and David of Sweeny; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Hamilton and Mrs. Carl Hazelwood, of Bay City; and three brothers, Don, Elbert and Earl of Bay City. Albina Grasmuck, 94, of Bay City, TX passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at Matagorda House Nursing Home. She was born August 12, 1918 in Ganado, TX to the late Henry Sablatura and Mary Pivonka Sablatura. She married Charles Grasmuck November 14, 1939 in Corpus Christi, TX where they lived until 1965 at which time they moved to Fremont, CA. After Charles passed away she moved to Vallecito, CA where she resided for 13 years. She had been a resident of Bay City, TX for the past 6 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Altar Society, KJZT and AARP. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grasmuck, son, C. J. & his wife Mary Ada Grasmuch and son Bruce Grasmuck. She was the last survivor of 13 children. She is survived by daughters Jerilyn Black & husband Kenneth of Bay City and Marilyn Britto & husband John of Truckee, CA; sons Randy Grasmuck & wife Karen of Oakdale, CA and Ben Grasmuck & wife Kari of Pacific Grove, CA; daughter-in-law Christa Grasmuck of Bay City; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Green was born March 19, 1929, to Claudie Williams and Lula Sheaffer Williams in Bay City and died 7:45 p. m. March 27, 1992, in Houston. A lifelong resident of Bay City and Blessing, she was a member of the Palacios Order of the Eastern Star 125 and had retired from the Tidehaven Independent School District after 17 years of service. She was also affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by two sons, David William Green of Rosenberg and Michael S. Green of Blessing; a brother, Jack E. Williams of Bay City; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oar Lee “Buck” Green, who died in 1969; a daughter, Sandra Lee Hucke, who died in 1985; and a sister, Wanda M. Davis, who died in 1990.
