Mrs. Fay Landry passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015. Fay was born October 26, 1938 in Alice, Texas to Roland E. and Rosile Duderstaet Hallemann. She is survived by her loving family, husband, Vernis Landry; sons, Rick Scheppan and Quinn Sheppan and wife Lynda; grandchildren, Shane Scheppan, Quinn Troy Scheppan ll, Renee Nichole Scheppan-Bohuslar, Cherie Nichole Scheppan Evans and Samuel Alex Scheppan; great grandchildren, Taylor Nichole Bohuslar and Allie Renee Bohuslar; mother, Rosile Hallemann. She is preceded in death by her father Roland Hallemann and sons Charlie William “Chuck” Scheppan Jr. and Kirk Anthony Scheppan. Funeral services will be 2:00P.M. Vernis J. Landry passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015. Vernis was born on August 5, 1934 in Jefferson Island, Louisiana to the late Leo Paul and Ida Desormeaux Landry. Survivors include his loving family, sons, Quinn Scheppan and wife Lynda, Rick Scheppan,Patrick Landry, daughters, Verna Romero, Connie Duhon, Theresa Richard and Pattie Smith; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and brother Minos Landry. Vernis is preceded in death by his parents; wife Fay Dell Landry; sons Darrel J. Landry, Charlie William "Chuck" Scheppan and Kirk Anthony Scheppan;sister Louelle Theresa Landry. December 9, 1941 in Bay City to the late Fadris Marie Mote Green &
Harvey Leroy Green, Sr.. Becky was a life long Resident of Bay City,
a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, and Women's Bowling League.

Services were held Tuesday, September 4 at Palacios for Sidney Berle Laxson, 17 years and 10 months. The youth succumbed at Falfurias Hospital Sunday night after an illness of several months. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Osa Laxson; two sisters, Johnnie Opal and Doris and one brother, Jesse Neal, all of Premont, Texas. Also, surviving are his grandmothers, Mrs. D. A. Laxson of Wharton and Mrs. W. S. Sherrill of Bay City. Pallbearers were Eugene Harvey, R. H. Neeley, Delvin Harvey, Virgil Rice, Charles Stewart and Robert Koch. Mr. T. Byron Lay, a well-to-do farmer, of Wadsworth, Texas, died yesterday at the Bay City Hospital, following an operation, and was buried in Cedarvale Cemetery this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
Decedent leaves a wife and four children, and a host of friends. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lay, of Blessing, Texas, also survive.
The Tribune extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved ones.

Mrs. Emma L. Layton, one of the county’s oldest citizens, passed away at Matagorda, Texas, at 5 a. m. Dec. 21st, at the home of Mrs. Irma Hustead. Death was not unexpected for this good woman had been ill for over three months, and those who watched over her realized some time ago she could not recover. Funeral services were held in Matagorda Cemetery, under the direction of Duffy and Rittenhouse, Funeral Directors, where a large body of friends and relatives gathered to witness the last rites of their oldest citizen and loved ones. Rev. Paul Engle, of the Episcopal Church, conducted services.

1918 – 1933
One of the largest, general outpouring of sorrowing and sympathetic friends to ever attend a funeral in Bay City, Texas, took place yesterday when C. W. Lee Jr., the 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos A. Lee, was laid to rest in Cedarvale Cemetery.
The religious ceremonies, conducted by the boy’s uncle, the Rev. P. E. Lee, were held at the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home on East Seventh Street, after which a huge concourse wound its way to the City of the Dead to join in the last sad farewell to a promising, popular, and well loved young man. The floral offerings were beautiful and many, the grave being literally a bower of blooming roses and fall flowers.
The pallbearers were his schoolmates, Merton Smith, Jeff Mangum Jr., Jack Young Jr., Presley Graham, Bruce Freeman, and Oscar Ziegenhals Jr.

Betty Rugeley Lewis, devoted wife, mother, and friend, 86, died Tuesday June 17, 2014, at her Escondido, CA. home, with her family by her side. Betty was born January 12, 1928, in Bay City, Texas to Lee and Irma Rugeley. In 1945, Betty graduated from Massey Business College and shortly after, began a job as secretary at Bay City First National Bank. In 1972, she graduated from Palomar College with an Instructional Associate degree and worked for the Escondido Elementary School district for 17 years. Betty was active in numerous areas of Escondido First United Methodist Church, including the catering team, Susana Circle, Nominations Committee, Membership and Evangelism Committee and Lamplighters. She also served as Director of Lay Evangelism, ushered the 10:45 service, was a confirmation advisor and taught Sunday School for many years. Betty was President of Reciprocity for Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) for a year and participated in their philanthropy from 1999 to present. Betty is survived by husband, Henry Lewis; children, Janet (Fred) Miller, Kim (Loren) Lewis and Steven Lewis; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas; niece, Leanne Sliva; nephew, Trey Rugeley; and many friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Lewis. The memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, Escondido CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Legacy Fund at the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for John Beeler Lindemood were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Saturday morning, February 29 at 10 with the Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery with Cecil Lee Post No 649 American Legion, of which he was a member, conducting graveside services. A resident of Matagorda County since 1908, he was born July 16, 1901 in Trezevant, Tenn. a son of Rufus and Elizabeth Terry Fugua Lindemood. A retired employee of Alcoa, he served in the Seabees during World War II. He represented Palacios High School at a State Meet in athletic events during his school years. He died Wednesday, February 26, in the Veterans Hospital in Houston. He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Blessing, one sister, Mrs. W. L. Tandy of Houston, brother, Albert Lindemood of Conroe and half-brother, Harry Russell of La Ward.

Funeral services were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Tuesday, September 8 at 3 p. m. for Erick Albert Linquist, who passed away at the Bayview General Hospital Thursday, September 3. Rev. Rayford Harris of the First Baptist Church officiated at the services and interment was in the Palacios Cemetery. A retired mail carrier, he was born June 17, 1871 in Minnesota. His survivors include his two sons, Edward, stationed with the U. S. N. in Alaska and Joe of Seattle, Washington.

Edith was born in Blessing on Dec. 31, 1921. She married Nathan D. Linton on May 31,m 1939, who was serving in the Navy. During Nathan’s military career, Edith lived in many states making a home for Nathan and their three children. After Nathan’s retirement from the Navy, they returned to Texas. Lather Edith received her B.S. in Education degree from Texas State University and her M.S. in Education degree from the University of Houston Victoria Center. She spent 21 years teaching including 18 years in Palacios where she and Nathan lived for 24 years. After retiring from teaching, she and Nathan built a ranch in Elk, Texas where she spent many years enjoying her family. Edith was preceded in death by her devoted husband Nathan of 65 years; parents, Harvey and Josephine Clapp; sister, Lena Darcy; brother Harvey C. Clapp; daughter-in-law, Beverlay Linton; grandson, Gerald “Chip” Linton; granddaughter, Jimmie Edith Linton; and great-grandson, James Dean Richards.. Survivors include her sons Gerald Linton and his wife Gayla, Ronald Linton and his wife Marilyn, and her daughter Sandra Dulling and her husband Robert; grandchildren Krystal Liske, Kimberlay Pavlik, Ronald Linton Jr., Melissa Bergholtz, Robert Linton Dulling, and Nathan Dulling, six great-grandchidren, four great-great grandchildren and her sister Alice Buckley. Ernest “Ernie” Lechuga, 57, of Bay City went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2014. He was born December 29, 1956 in Yorktown, TX to Casildo and Beatrice Rios Lechuga. Ernie was a volunteer fireman with the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department. He liked to Kayak, loved the Lord, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bay City. Ernie was very kind hearted, a good husband, and loved going to the Nascar Races.

BAY CITY - Jessie Murl Moses Long joined the Lord on Monday, November 3, 2014. She was born November 18, 1923 in Zavalla, Texas to the late Jess and Lila Moses. Jessie worked for 85 years of her life. She loved being around people. She was an avid gardener, doing her own yard until July 2014. She was loved by many because of her kindness and generosity. Jessie was best known for her baking. She made countless German chocolate cakes for friend's birthdays and weddings. She was always delivering her baked goods to people. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Rebeccas serving many offices and a life member of the VFW Post 2438 Ladies Auxiliary. Jessie was always involved with her children's and grandchildren's school and sports activities. Jessie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years Earl Long; daughter Sue Bundick; granddaughter Cathy Smith Machost; great granddaughter Brooklynn Campbell and brothers James, Floyd and Ray Moses. Albert Edward Lowry was born to Trulan and Viola Lowry. He went to be with his Lord, May 6, 2015. "Eddie" graduated from Reagan High School, Houston, Heights in 1953. In June, 1957, he served in active duty in the U.S. Air Force and continued as a reserve airman, until 1963. Eddie enjoyed golfing, fishing and "daily board meetings" at Shipley's Donuts. Survivors include his extended family, Nanette and Kirsten Shearer of Bay City; Mary Fowler of Austin; Nancy and Kent Walls and family of Austin. Bay City Banker is Victim of Heart Attack
Funeral Services for Louis B. Luder, 63, who died at his home Saturday, were held at the First Methodist Church in Bay City, Texas, at 3:00 PM Monday followed by interment in the Cedarvale Cemetery.
A resident of Bay City for 60 years, he was vice president of the First National Bank of Bay City. He had served on the City Council, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Matagorda County Livestock Association, had served on the board of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and recently was awarded a life membership in the Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the Matagorda County Drainage Board, and was the Precinct 1 voting chairman.
He is survived by his wife and a brother W. J. Luder, Jr., both of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Crim of Eagle Lake, Texas and Mrs. Mary Mersfelder of Fort Worth, Texas.

Erie Adene Luder, 95, of Bay City died February 6, 2001 at the Linwood Nursing Center in Victoria. She was born April 28, 1905 in Harris Co. near Waller, to the late Robert Scales and Lucy Lee Robertson Starr. Mrs. Luder was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bay City and a former teacher of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a resident of Bay City since 1927, and was a longtime member of the Book Review Club. Mrs. Luder was very active member of the Cedarvale Cemetery Association from 1965 thru 1991, served as president of the Board from 1981 thru 1991, and was also a member of the Cemetery Trust from 1965 thru 1991. Survivors include: brothers, Robert S. Starr of Hempstead, Frank Henry Starr of Waller and Bennie Lee Starr of Houston; nephew, Leland Williams and wife Virgie of Port Lavaca; niece, Adene Johnson and husband Mack of Victoria; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis B. “Fella” Luder on May 1, 1965, sister Ruby Williams and husband Wilborn, and brother Gordon Starr and wife Lillie. Funeral service was 10 a. m. Saturday, February 10, 2001, at the First United Methodist church with the Rev. Leslie LeGrand and the Rev. Tom Crowe officiating. Pallbearers are her nephews, Lee Williams, Jr., Bill Luder, Greg Gordon, David Gordon, Mack Johnson Jr. and Pete Kimmey. BAY CITY - Eva Lee Koch Luedecke, age 80, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Luedecke and son David Luedecke. She is survived by her sons Gene Luedecke and Lori Rice, Donald and Jennifer Luedecke, Kenneth and Danette Luedecke, as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Her memorial, celebration of life, will be held at her home on Saturday, May 9th, beginning at noon.

Susie Luna, 67, of Wharton, Texas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 14, 2014. She was born December 31, 1946, in Bay City, Texas, a daughter of the late Jesse and Nancy Escamilla Vega. Susie was raised in the Bay City area and graduated from Bay City High School. She later obtained her Registered Nurse License and started her career of helping others. She married Rudolfo “Rudy” Garcia Luna on September 17, 1966, in Wharton. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2010. Susie worked for many health care facilities over the years, including, Gulf Coast Medical Center, El Campo Memorial Hospital, and Eagle Lake Hospital, along with several nursing homes, and in the home health field. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and gardening, especially her flowers. Susie is survived by her daughters, Rita Luna and Angie Mulato of Richmond; son, Rudy Luna Jr of Dallas; sisters, Betty Greer of Bay City, Alice Stanford of Bay City, Hope Cisneros of Dickenson, Catherine Hernandez of Bay City and Anna Garcia of West Columbia; brother, Jessie Vega Jr.; and her grandchildren, Jesse Luna and Sue Ann Cortesano. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Wharton Funeral Home, with a rosary recited at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Soard officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Charles, son of Elsie and Charles Luther, was born and raised in Palacios, TX. He graduated from the University of Texas and from UT's College of Pharmacy. He is survived by his wife, Donna Rose, daughters Rosanette and Rovanna, son Garth, and five grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his daughter Roxanne, his parents, and his sister Claire Joy. Charles loved growing up in Palacios, "The City by the Sea." Charles told many stories about his childhood years. He especially loved to tell about the years during WWII. The forties in Palacios were especially exciting for Charles. Soldiers were stationed just west of town at Camp Hulen. As more and more soldiers arrived, the camp became so overcrowded that homeowners were asked to house soldiers and their families in their spare bedrooms. Charles' family moved to his parents' hotel, the Luther Hotel, so officers and their wives could live in their home. The hotel was so full that Charles slept on a cot in the kitchen of his families' apartment but was allowed to keep his clothes and toy soldiers in his sister's bedroom so long as he did not touch her things. Big name bands came to Palacios to play at the Palacios Pavilion. Charles often went to sleep listening to the music as the sound drifted over the bay to the hotel. A memory Charles cherished was of waiting at the foot of the stairs of the hotel for Rita Hayworth to come down from her room. When she saw him she said, "Oh, what a cute little boy!" and kissed him on his forehead. During that time he would often take his book and fishing pole and spend summer mornings reading and fishing off the pier of the Pavilion. One morning a man stood watching and finally asked where he could buy a fishing pole. Charles gave him directions to Oldham's Dry Goods and shared his bait with him when he returned with his cane pole. Later, back at the hotel, Charles found out the man was Lash LaRue, the cowboy movie star who used a whip instead of a gun. His first trip overseas was with other Boy Scouts in 1951 when he attended the World Scout Jamboree held in Bad Ischl, Austria. What a thrill for a boy from a small town in Texas! Boys were there from all over the world and, because of Western movies, the Texas camp was popular with boys from other countries. Charles traded his cowboy boots for a pair of wooden shoes with a boy from Holland; we still have the shoes today. When the Jamboree was over, Charles' troop toured all over Europe, but the country he remembered best was Italy. He was excited to see Venice and enraptured by Florence's art, but nothing captivated him like Rome. He remembered every detail of his visit there. He was fortunate to be able to go back many times: one of the times he and Donna went with lifelong friends, Lois and Norris Neeley, to celebrate the Neeleys' 50th Wedding Anniversary; on another trip they celebrated the 9th birthday of their grandson, Nathaniel, the joy of Charles' life. This was a wonderful family trip with their children, Rosanette, Garth, Rovanna and her son, Nathaniel. Charles' favorite job was in Houston at Diagnostic Center Hospital (before it became part of Methodist) where, as Director of Pharmacy, he made many lasting friendships. He also made many new friends after retirement at Memorial City Mall where he went to walk for exercise. Charles had a wonderful life. His mantra was, "I'm the luckiest man in the world." He was forever grateful to have a loving wife and loving children. He was curious, always learning and had a wonderful memory. He was our handy encyclopedia. He will be forever missed. At their deaths, both Donna and Charles wished to be cremated, their ashes buried in the Harvey Cemetery in Broaddus where their daughter Roxanne, is buried. Charles' ashes will remain with the family until Donna's death. He will be remembered in the family home by friends and relatives on Sunday, September 7, 2014, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon.
