Colton Michael Palmer passed away at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston on Sunday, January 27, 2013. He was born May 13, 2012 in Galveston, Texas to Christopher Michael and Stephanie McCullers Palmer. Baby Colton passed away peacefully in the arms of his parents and surrounded by his loving family. He touched more people in the short 8 months that he was here with us than most do in a lifetime. He also endured more than most do in a lifetime. He always had a huge smile even when he was sick in the hospital or home; he smiled. His smile lit up his face and brightened everyone’s life. Colton showed us a love that we never knew existed. He was surrounded by love from his parents, grandparents, family, friends and community. One day he will greet each one of us with his big smile. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Wild Peach Community Church with Brother Earl Breazeale officiating. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery. She was born May 29, 1940 in Columbus, Texas to Leola Mitchell and Ernest Hayes. Josephine was employed for 32 years with BCISD. Josephine is survived by: daughters, A. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Telma Lee Fitzgerald. A celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at New Hope Baptist Church, 3300 Avenue F, Bay City, Texas. The Pastor T. L. John Edward Pennington, 73, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Born in Rosenberg, Texas on October 20, 1938, raised in Palacios, Texas, he graduated from Palacios High School in 1957 and from the University of Texas at Austin in 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Maurice and Meta (Baxter) Pennington and brother, Harold Baxter Pennington. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Beatrice (Ramsey), daughters, Julie Lynn and Sandy Kay and grandson, David Samuel Poor II. A sixth generation Texan and descendent of one of "Austin's Old Three Hundred”, his family received a land grant from Stephen F. Austin in 1827 to establish the town of Matagorda, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios, organized in 1903 by his grandparents. Edward served in the Texas National Guard then continued his career as Vice-President of Fiscal Affairs at Texas A&I University, Controller at King Ranch and CEO at Shelton Ranches. After moving to Houston, he started his own companies, specializing in commercial, farm and ranch real estate. Throughout his life, Edward served in numerous community organizations, most recently as President of the Harris County MUD district 359. Edward was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed jogging, fishing, golfing, and especially quail hunting. A lifelong student of history, he read and studied his family history back to descendents who fought in the Texas War for Independence, the Civil War and the American Revolution, continuing back as far as 747 A.D. in Europe. The family would like to thank Dr. Fabrizia Faustinella for her care and support and the caring associates at the Hampton, Shadowbriar. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 19th, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Palacios Funeral Home with funeral services held at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios, Texas, on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Pennington, Hudson Merle Bates, Sam Ramsey, Coy Lee Ramsey, Dick Kubecka and Bill Kubecka. Her husband, Manuel Garcia Perez, daughter Virginia Pardo, step-daughter Pauline Carvajal, sisters Pauline Rodriguez, Lupe Rodriguez & Susie Martinez, and brother Alex Perez all preceded her in death. Survivors include her life partner Jose Perrusia of Palacios; daughters Teresa Gonzales (Herby), Estella Lucio (Gilbert) and Mary Pena (Ricky) all of Palacios; step-daughter Olga Perez of Alvin; sisters Celia Rendon, Mary Mendez, Mary Lou Valesquez all of Port Lavaca, Alice Harvey (Raymond) of Palacios, and Helen Valesquez of Victoria; brother Johnny “Fidel” Perez of Port Lavaca; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was a member of Mother Zion Baptist Church, and a 1971 graduate of Bay City High School. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Andrea Perry and Anthony DeShawnti Perry, and her mother, Mrs. Irene Perry, all of Bay City; as well as two granddaughters, Arkayla Chantrecia MeShawn Perry and Kentoyalis Shinaed Pery Green. JERRY JAMES PETER, age 86, passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with congestive heart failure, in Bay City, Texas, on February 6, 2012, while surrounded by his family. Born in Wallis, Texas, on April 22, 1925, to Louis William Peter and Bessie Rose Parma. After graduating from Wallis High School in 1942, he worked at Todd Shipyard in Galveston repairing war damaged ships until he was old enough to join the service. He then joined the Merchant Marines and served during World War II as a Boiler Fireman and Jr. Engineer on Liberty Ships. He traveled the world until 1947 and then began working as a carpenter for his father. Jerry met the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Linda, when she came to Wallis to teach school. They married and began their life together in Wallis. After marriage he worked in the oil fields as a rough-neck and was on a crew that drilled one of the first offshore oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1957 Jerry began work for Phillips Petroleum and he and Linda moved to Van Vleck, Texas where they raised their three children. The majority of his career was with Phillips primarily working in the Alki Unit where he retired after 27 years at the position of Stillman. On his days off he loved to fish & flounder in Matagorda Bay and hunt deer in the Fall. Jerry also ran a herd of cattle and grew pecans at his place in Cedar Lane, which he continued after retirement. His interest in genealogy led him to travel to the Czech Republic several times. He could speak and write Czech and took great delight in Sunday telephone calls to the friends he made on his trips. Jerry is survived by his wife, Texana “Linda” Peter; his daughters, Mary Peter Cudd & husband Michael of West Columbia and Helen Peter of Houston; his son, Louis William Peter & wife Debbie; four granddaughters, Mary Helene Toth, Elizabeth Texana Anderson, Katherine Lee Peter, Rebecca Lynn Peter; four great-granddaughters and sister, Florence Svoboda. Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Jerry from four to six o’clock in the evening, followed by a rosary at 6:30 o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 7th day of February, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas. The funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday the 8th day of February, 2012, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Bay City, Texas. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Doris, two
sons, Clifford and Billy, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Griffin of
Robstown, Texas, one sister, Mrs. E. B. Hogg, and one brother A. B.

Presslar, age 36 years, 5 months and 23 days, died at the hospital
here Tuesday morning at 2:45. She is survived by her husband, J. W.
Presslar, one daughter, Miss Doris Presslar, two sons, Clifford and
Billy Presslar of Palacios, Tex., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G.
Griffin of Robstown, Tex., one sister, Mrs. E. B. Hogg and one
brother, A. G. Griffin of Palacios. The remains were taken overland
to Palacios on Tuesday by Taylor Brothers. Funeral services will be
