Funeral Services for Edward Johnson, 79, of Bay City will be 11 a. m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at Union Baptist Church in Pledger with the Rev. Elzie Bonner officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery at Pledger.

Mr. Johnson will lie in state at the church Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a. m.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon until 9 p. m. in the chapel at Green's Mortuary.

Mr. Johnson died Dec. 20, 1999 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City. He was born June 4, 1920 to the union of Pleaze and Dorthula Underwood Johnson in Oakwood, Texas.

Survivors include: five sons, William Johnson (Loraine) of Pledger, Dennis Johnson (Jean) of Bay City, Richard Johnson (Hattie) of Needville, Jerry Johnson (Gwendolyn) of Houston, and Turley Johnson of Bay City; four daughters, Lily Pointer (Louis), Brenda Scott (Frank), and Renna Johnson (Maurice), Dorothy Martin (Dennis) all of Bay City; brothers, Henry Wagner; a special granddaughter, Yolanda Johnson of Bay City; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a special friend Alma Robinson; daughter-in-law, Edith Johnson of Bay City; and a host of relatives and friends including Bay Villa Nursing Home and Staff.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Lillie Bell Butler Johnson; son, Ernest Paul Johnson; sisters, Opal Johnson and Estella Ravenell; brothers, William December Johnson, O. J. Wagner, Curtis Wagner; and daughter-in-law, Adorothy Johnson.

Pallbearers will be: Jerry Manning, Roshaun Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Jr., Richard Johnson, Lester Johnson, Michael Boone, Earnest Johnson, Jr., William Johnson, Jr., Reginald Johnson, James Johnson, and Jimmy Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Williams Johnson, Sr., Jerry Johnson, Turley Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Louis Pointer, Sr.

Arrangements are with Green's Mortuary in Bay City.

James Edward Johnson of Bay City died Wednesday, August 27, 2003.

He was born May 21, 1967 to Earnest and Edith Johnson.

Services will be 2 p. m. Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Deloach and the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating.

Interment will be at Union Baptist Cemetery in Pledger.

Green's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Jones, age 106, of Pledger, were held Sunday, March 3, at 2 p. m., at Union Baptist Church in Pledger, with the Rev. C. C. Hayes officiating. Burial followed at Union Baptist Cemetery in Pledger.

Mr. Jones was born in Ashwood, Texas, Oct. 2, 1889, to Thomas and Emma Jones, and died Thursday, Feb. 29, 1996, at Transitional Hospital Corporation, Houston, Texas.

Survivors include a host of relatives and friends, including the Freddie Amey family of Pledger.

Arrangements were with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Tyree Jones, 82, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City with the Rev. Reginald DeVaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church in Pledger.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City.

Mr. Jones was born Nov. 11, 1911 in Pledger to Lee and Geneva Matthews Jones and died Dec. 5, 1993 at his residence.

Former owner and operator of Jones Bar and Grill in Bay City, he was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a son, Tyree Jones Jr. of Houston; four sisters, Bernice Daniel of San Diego, Calif., Leotia Howard of Waco; two brothers, Nolan Floyd of Pledger and Roy R. Floyd of Houston; a granddaughter, Brenda Jones of Bay City; a goddaughter, Bernita Wilburn of Houston; four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Jones.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home of Bay City.

Funeral services for Rhynie Kemp, 84, of Pledger, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 1994, at Union Baptist Church in Pledger with the Rev. C. C. Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Cemetery in Pledger.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home of Bay City.

Mrs. Kemp was born March 10, 1910 in Pledger and died Nov. 29, 1994, in the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She was a resident of the Pledger community for many years and was a member of the Baptist church. She was a member of the Court of Calanthe #155 and Edwards Pride Chapter #346 - Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and the Rev. Harry Higgins of Houston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Marie Kemp of Houston and Chester and Rosie Kemp of Cedar Lane; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Kemp Bogan of Houston; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Kemp; a daughter, Hattie Gordon; two grandchildren, Brenda Gordon and Chester Ray Kemp Jr.

Pallbearers are John Higgins, Erwin Higgins, Robert Kemp, Darrell Kemp, Lloyd Kemp, Kenneth Kemp, A Ray Mangum Sr., Melvin Gordon, Joseph Lewis, Melvin Woodard, Charles Gordon, Terrence Kemp.

Honorary pallbearers Lloyd Kemp, Chester Ray Kemp Sr., Freddie Amey, Rev. Harry Higgins, Union Baptist Deacons, Union Baptist Missionary Society and Union Baptist Sunday School.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Lewis, 90, of San Diego, California, will be held Saturday, May 25, at 11 a. m., at Union Baptist Church in Pledger, with Rev. C. C. Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery in Pledger.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born in Pledger, Texas, Saturday, October 7, 1905, to Calvin Pinkey and Henrietta James Pinkey, and was reared by her uncle and aunt, Philip and Elvera Stredic. She passed away Wednesday, May 15, 1996, in San Diego, California. Eliza moved to San Diego, Calif. in 1966, where she operated a Day Care Center for children.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy L. Daniels (& Charlie) of San Diego, California, and a step-daughter, Ms. Cherry Lewis of Houston. Also two granddaughters, Mrs. Velma Edwards (& Willie) of Groton, Connecticut, and Mrs. Virginia Thomas of San Diego, Calif., and two great-grandchildren, Maurice Anderson (& Yvonne) of Temecula, California, and Victoria Thomas of San Diego. Also three great-grandchildren, Shonda Anderson, Daniel Anderson and Ashlea Hodges. She leaves a host of other relatives and a family of many friends.

Active pallbearers will include Robert Spradley, Freddie Amey, Erwin Higgins, Kenneth Kemp, John Higgins and Robert Kemp. Honorary pallbearers will include Maurice Anderson, Robert Higgins, Lloyd Kemp, Willie Edwards and Chester Kemp, Sr.
