HAIRSTON, CHARLES R.
Charles R. Hairston, 74, of Bay City died October 2, 2002 at St.
Luke’s Hospital in Houston.
He was born August 8, 1928 in Milan, TX, to the late William and Emma
Pole Hairston.
Mr. Hairston was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a
resident of Bay City since 1949.
In 1990, Charles retired as a salesman from Bay City Auto & Sales
with 43 years of service.
He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Bay City Lodge No. 865
AF&AM, a member of the Bay City and Houston Shriners, and a veteran
of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: wife, Helen Doucet Hairston of Bay City; sister,
Juanita Noack of Houston; to nieces, Pat Holly and Beverly Crowell, both
of Houston; and nephew, Billy Hairston of Rockdale.
Funeral services was 11.a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2002, at St. Mark’s
Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Bruce Bonner officiating. Interment
followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers were B. J. and Gary Krenek, Arthur Milberger, Lindsey
Thompson, Dick Crow and Robert Toney.
Honorary pallbearers were: Frank Baker, Joe Birkner, Kirby Dismukes,
Fred Holub, Fred Law, Charlie Martinez, Jr., Cecil Mask, Joel Morrow,
Mike Pruett, Lynn Quillin, Billy Earl Robertson, Orlando Schraub, Bill
Thompson, John Underwood, Les Wenk and all his coffee buddies.

HALE, KENNETH CHARLES
Kenneth Charles Hale, 70, of Wadsworth, Texas, passed away Friday, June
20, 2003. He was born May 28, 1933 in New Gulf, Texas to Bland Hale and
Leona May Seerden Hale.
He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1941, a member of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, a member of VFW Post 2438, and a US Army veteran
of Korea.
He is survived by: wife, Shirley Hale of Wadsworth; mother, Leona
Franzina of Bay City; daughters, Vanessa Smith of Houston and Karen
Johnson of Kingsville; sons, Robert Charles Hale of Wadsworth and
Kenneth Scott Hale of Anahuac; sisters, Irby Marie Gore of Hempstead and
Mary Frances Fey of League City; grandchildren, Leslie RaNae Gassen of
Van Vleck, Ashley Renee Hale and Jonathan Hale of Anahuac, and Jack
Joseph Johnson, Jr. and Danielle Elizabeth Johnson of Kingsville;
step-grandchildren, Christa Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Tammie Johnson
of Germany, and Jay Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; and his
great-granddaughter, Destany RaNae Zuniga of Van Vleck.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bland Hale and by his
son-in-law, Jack Joseph Johnson,Sr.

HALEY,
JAMES DONALD
James Donald Haley
July 26, 1917 - Sept. 13, 2005
James Donald “Coach Don” Haley, 88, of Bay City, died Sept. 13, 2005 at
Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.
He was born July 26, 1917, in Broad Ford, Pennsylvania, to the late
Anthony J. and Bridget Grace Haley.
Mr. Haley was a resident of Bay City since 1948 and a member of Holy
Cross Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S.
Army Air Force, as a first lieutenant, a life member of Philip H. Parker
VFW Post No. 2438, a former member of the Bay City Rotary Club, a board
member and chairman for several years of the Bay City Public Library and
was a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association.
He received a BS degree in 1948 and his MS degree in 1951 from Baylor
University. There, he lettered three years in football and baseball.
In 1949, Mr. Haley became the assistant coach at Bay City High School.
He moved up to head coach and athletic director in 1953 and continued in
that capacity for 19 years. During his tenure, the Black Cats won 119
games, lost 59 and tied 5. Under his leadership, the Black Cats were
undefeated for 23 consecutive games.
For all of his efforts, he was inducted into Bay City High School Black
Cat Hall of Fame Nov. 9, 2001, and into Texas High School Coaches
Association Hall of Honor on July 28, 2004.
He also taught American history at Bay City High School and government
classes at Wharton Co. Junior College at night.
On July 30, 1955, he married Evelyn McNabb Baker in Bay City, and they
just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn McNabb Baker Haley of Bay City; son,
Charles “Chuck” Baker and wife Fran of Bay City; sister, Eileen Haley
Donovan of New Salem, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Bryan McNabb
Baker and wife Rhonda of Conroe, Texas, and Gregory Wayne Baker of
Matagorda, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mitchell and Macey
Baker, all of Conroe, and Taylor Baker of Beaumont, Mississippi, and
niece, Catherine Lawhon Anderson and husband Carl, of Matagorda, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Haley, and his
brothers, John Henry, Bob and Raymond Haley.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the
funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Holy Cross
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.
Interment followed at Matagorda Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Anderson, Bryan Baker, Greg Baker, Wayne Brown,
James Patterson and Tommy Turner.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For Billy
Halfen Of Collegeport
Funeral services for Billy Halfen of Collegeport were
held at 3 p. m. Saturday, February 11, in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in
Bay City with the Rev. Milton E. McWilliams, assisted by the Rev. Ralph
Masters, officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Cemetery.
Born in Kansas City, Mo. on Sept. 30, 1917, he came
to Texas at an early age. He spent his early childhood in San Antonio,
coming to the Collegeport area when a young boy. A well known farmer and
rancher, Halfen served overseas with the Army during World War II.
He died Thursday in Methodist Hospital in Houston
from injuries received Tuesday night in a pickup-train collision on
South Ave F in Bay City.
Survivors include his wife, Juliette of Collegeport;
son, Earl Marvin, student at the University of Texas; his mother,
Linette Mae Halfen; four sisters, Mrs. Frances Savage of Bay City; Mrs.
Erma Pennell, Mrs. Vera Mae Lenten, Mrs. Mary Ann Jackson, all of
Houston and one brother, Jack Halfen of Collegeport.

HAMLETT, HIRAM CHARLES
"HAMMER"
Hiram Charles "Hammer" Hamlett, 76, of Mathis, Texas, passed
away Friday, April 7, 2000, in Mathis.
Mr. Hamlett was born in Fayette County, Texas, on Sept. 2, 1923. He was
a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. Mr.
Hamlett worked in the petroleum industry as a fishing tool supervisor
before his retirement.
Survivors include: wife, Lois Hamlett of Mathis, two daughters, Rhonda
Jones of Mathis, and Robin and Mark Smith of Sinton, Texas; son, Ronnie
Joe and Cathy Adams of Seguin, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Martha Wooley
of Baton Rouge, La. and Joann Griffin of Lubbock, Texas; friend, Richard
Sewell of Mathis; grandchildren, Charlie "Frances" Adams, Eric
Adams, Erin Smith and Stephen Smith; and great grandchildren, Jay and
Elizabeth Adams.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000,
at Roselawn Memorial Park near Bay City. Family will receive friends
Tuesday, April 11, 2000, between 4 and 7 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home.

HARDUNG, WARREN G., "BUCK"
Funeral services for Warren G. "Buck" Hardung were held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Port Lavaca Funeral Home Chapel with Lymon
Mareness, minister of the Point Comfort Church of Christ officiating.
Burial was in Hawley Cemetery following graveside services conducted by
Lavaca Masonic Lodge No. 36.
Son of Mrs. Pinkey Lee Grupe of Alto Loma and the late Frederick Otto
Hardung, he was born March 12, 1922, in Eagle Lake, Texas. A former
resident of Palacios, moving to Point Comfort three years ago, he was a
34-year employee of Superior Oil Co., a naval veteran of World War II
having served in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters, was a member of
the Point Comfort Church of Christ, Lavaca Masonic Lodge and VFW Post
4403. He died Thursday night in the Champ Traylor Hospital in Port
Lavaca after an extended illness.
He is survived by his mother, his wife, Ruth Bentley Hardung of Point
Comfort; five daughters, Elizabeth Hardung and Mrs. Jeffrey Crawley of
Point Comfort, Patsy Hardung of Cuero, Mrs. Wade Tollier of Bayou la
Batre, Ala. and Mrs. James Thompson of Port Lavaca; one son, Robert
Hardung of Point Comfort; five sisters, Mrs. Robert Colley, Mrs. J. D.
Auzston of Galveston, Mrs. Emily Auzston of Blessing, Mrs. M. L.
Patterson of Bay Cliff and Miss Alice Hardung of Alto Loma; four
brothers, Sellers Silveria of Channelview, Fred and Frank Hardung of
Alto Loma and Herman Hardung of Dallas and three grandchildren.

HARDWICK, DARGEL LEON
Dargel Leon Hardwick, 81, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2005 at his
residence in Texas City.
He was born in Tom, Oklahoma, on April 4, 1923, to parents Ottis and
Cosie Mae Hunkapiller Hardwick.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked as a construction and
maintenance foreman.
He is survived by: his wife, Margie Nell Gurley Hardwick of Texas City;
sons and daughters-in law, Gene and Sharon Hardwick of Sweeny, and Gary
and Janet Hardwick of Lake Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and
Jerry Byram of Texas City; and daughter, Rene Hardwick of Texas City; by
grandchildren, Michael Ray, Daryl, Jody, Chad, Chelsey and Ashley
Hardwick and Jerry Lynn Byram; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and
Brinley Hardwick, Jerry Dylan Byram, Jacob and Angelica Byram, Jeremy,
Jason, Michael and Alexis Hardwick, and Cory, Justin, Brandon and Sloan
Cameron.
Visitation was to be held Saturday, January 8, from 2 until 4 p.m. at
the Bay City Funeral Home.
Services will be held at the cemetery in Matagorda, Texas, at 2 p.m. on
Sunday, January 9, 2005.
Pallbearers will be Jody, Chad and Michael Ray Hardwick, Jerry Byram,
John Shelby and Jim Mowery.

HARDY
Graveside services for Mr.
William Thomas Hardy, 76, of Bay City will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at
Ashby Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Duckett officiating.
Mr. Hardy was born Dec. 20,
1907, in Fannin, Texas, and died Aug. 14, 1984, at the Veterans Hospital
in Houston. He was a lifelong resident of Bay City and served in the U.
S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include: mother, Alice
Quinney Hardy of Bay City; daughter, Aline Bordelon of Bakers, La., son,
William T. Hardy of Baton Rouge, La.; sister, Goldie Carter of Palacios;
and five grandchildren.

Jack E. Hargrave Dies Result Saturday Accident
Jack E. Hargrave, 36-year-old Bay Citian, died this morning in
Dow Hospital in Freeport following an automobile accident near
Freeport Saturday.
Mr. Hargrave died this morning at 6:10 o’clock and funeral
service will be held here tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock
with arrangements being made by Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.
Following the automobile accident which occurred while Mr.
Hargrave was driving near Freeport, he was taken to Dow Hospital
where he died today.
The Daily Review of Brazoria County stated that the
Hargrave car was speeding, according to witnesses, at an
extensive rate of speed and swerved to avoid hitting an
on-coming auto and smashed into a ditch and then into a tree.

Anderson Cyrus, (A.C.) Harter, 77, of Blessing, passed away July 30,
2005, at Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston.
He was born in Bay City on July 17, 1928, to parents, Avon Elsworth and
Ina Mae Woodson Harter.
He was a veteran of the Navy and a longtime area rancher.
He is survived by: his wife, Becky Lou Calhoun Harter of Blessing; sons
and daughters-in-law, Forrest and Sharon Harter of Blessing, Roy and
Lisa Jones of Inez, and David Benard of Victoria; daughters and
sons-in-law, Donna and Mark Michael of Cedar Park, Maria and John Tetur
of El Campo, Leah Harter of Rockport, Valerie Hanlon of Corpus Christi,
and Leah and Don Boggs of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, Vonna and
Abner Ussurey of Blessing; grandchildren, Julie Michael, Blake and Amber
Wolter, Jesse Woods, John and Melissa Hanlon, Micheille and Mike Olszak,

 Bert L."PaPaw" Head, 82, of Bay City died December 14, 2004 in
Bay City.
He was born September 9, 1922 in Bay City to the late Albert Jefferson
and Floyd McGlaun Head.
He was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the First United
Methodist Church. He also was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army
Air Corp, a Life Member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post No. 2438 and Past
Post Commander.
He was also a Life Member of American Legion Post No. 11, and a member
of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 230 of Bay City, and the
100 Club of Matagorda Co. He was a 1939 graduate of Bay City High
School, and he worked for Skelly Oil Co. for 33 years.
Survivors include: his wife of 63 years Aunnine Head of Bay City;
daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Al Voyles of Longview, Texas and
Sherry and Greg Rothermel of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne
and Vicki Head, and Bobby and Wiem Head all of Bay City; six
grandchildren, Dale Lessenberry, David Lessenberry, Ken Head, Vim X
Head, Kirk Head and Aly Head; and two step grandchildren: Mike Voyles
and Michelle Gerber.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Taylor
Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment
followed at Hawley Cemetery, with P. H. Parker VFW Post 2438 providing
Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Greg Rothermel, Dale Lessenberry, David Lessenberry,
Ken Head, Vim Head, and Kirk Head.

Stephen McClure Heffelfinger, 61, of Raphine, Va. died February 5, 2003
at his residence. He was born August 22, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minn. to
the late William Walter and Lois Hargett Heffelfinger. Steve graduated
from Texas A&M University and served in the US Navy aboard the 7th
Fleet flagship, the USS Providence and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include: wife Elaine Wolfe Heffelfinger of Raphine, Va.; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Pilar Heffelfinger of Raphine, Va. and
Jennifer and Bill Kendrick of Longmont, Colo.; two grandsons, Liam and
Cooper Kendrick.
A memorial mass was at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lexington, Va. on
Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. N. Alan Lipscomb

Paul H. “Grump” Henneke, 56, of Van Vleck passed
away Thursday, November 18, 2010 at his home. He was born February
16, 1954 in Angleton, Texas to Charlene Huntsman & Joseph Otto
Henneke. He has been a long time resident of Matagorda County,
Served his Country as a member of the United States Army, and work
at Auto Row as a Automotive Salesman.
Grump is survived by his mother: Charlene Bartee;
sister: Nada Sample both of Lovelady, TX; 4 brothers: Clark Maden &
wife Gwen, James Gormey & wife Luxey all of Angleton, Joe Stuber &
wife Marie, and John Gormey all of Bay City; and many nieces &
nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Otto Henneke
and brother: Mark Maden.

Reyes S. Hernandez, 77, of Bay City, passed away August 24, 2000 in
Houston, Texas. He was born September 13, 1922 in San Antonio to the
late Aniecto Hernandez and Edoxia Sanchez Hernandez. He was a resident
of Bay City since 1934, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church, a member of the Kinghts of Columbus Council No. 3070, and a
veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force serving in World War II.
He is survived by: daughters, Esmeralda Hernandez of Oklahoma City,
Okla., Irma H. Setzer and her husband M. Ray Setzer, Jr. of Brazoria,
and Gloria Lopez of Bay City. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren
and 16 great grandchildren.
The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros Funeral Home
Chapel. The Funeral Mass was held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2000
at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren
officiating. Interment was held at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

HERRIN, WILLIAM
William Herrin, 72, of Schike Point, passed away Wednesday, January 16,
2002 at his residence following a long illness. He was born in Houston,
Texas on August 6, 1929 to parents Forest and Millie Green.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and worked as a tire salesman for
many years. He was a member of the East Bernard American Legion Post and
the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He is survived by: father, Forest Green of Blessing; daughter Doris
Gurtin of Schike Point and grandchildren, Bobbie Joe Himnan, Emily
Herrin, Tracy Herrin, and Bridgett Girten and great grandchildren,
Taylor Girten and Angelina Hinman.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 19 at the Bay
City Funeral Home Chapel with Hollie Briscoe officiating. Burial will
follow at Hawley Cemetery.

John S. Hlavinka, 83, of Bay City died Tuesday, January 1 in Bay City.
He was born December 24, 1918 in East Bernard, Texas to the late Martin
and Virginia Hlavinka.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army. He was
retired from the Texas Highway Department and was a loving father and
husband.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years. Steffie Milich Hlavinka of Bay
City; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gilbert Salinas of Galveston
and Linda and Johnny Lowe of Bay City; sister, Josie Milich of Port
Arthur; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Hlavinka of Port
Arthur and George and Shirley Hlavinka of Caldwell; grandchildren,
Stephanie and Stratton Munson of Angleton and Jack J. Bevers, III, of
Angleton; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betty Jean Bevers;
sister, Virginia Hlavinka; and brother, Frank Hlavinka.

with Father Casey Jarzombek officiating. Burial was at

Funeral services for Willard T. Hobbins,
83, of Van Vleck, will be at 2 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 at the Bay City

Hankins officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hawley
Cemetery.
Mr. Hobbins died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000
at Southwest Memorial Hospital in
Houston. He was born May 6, 1916 to
George H., Sr. and Alma B. Jenkins
Hobbins.
He served as a Staff Sergeant during
WWII as an airplane mechanic. He was
also a member of the Assembly of God
Church.
Survivors include: wife, Vivian Fincher
Hobbins; son, James W. Hobbins of Clute;
daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Hoots
of Van Vleck and Maybell and J. L. Evans
of Bay City; brother, George H. Hobbins,
Jr. of Brazoria; a sister, Pearl Bundick
of Brazoria; nine grandchildren and 16
great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother,
Abner Hobbins and a sister, Wilma
Thomas.

Walter V. Holliday
Funeral services for Walter V. “Bud” Holliday, 75, of
Bay City were held at 4 pm Saturday, April 10, 1999 at
Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Sam Starks
officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery
in Van Vleck.
Mr. Holliday died Thursday, April 8, in Wharton. He was
born Dec. 16, 1923 in Goodrich, Tex. To Walter Vleet
Holliday and Lennie Audrey Galloway Holliday.
He was a resident of Bay City for the past 31 years, a
member of the Methodist Church, owner and operator of
Holliday and Sons Trucking Company of Bay City, and a
veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during WWII.
Mr. Holliday is survived by his wife, Verna Holliday of
Bay City, ; daughter, Sandra and husband, Tim LeMaster
of Sugar Valley; sons, Brian and wife Laura Holliday of
Van Vleck and Randy and wife Theresa Holliday of Cedar
Park. Tex.; sisters, Mavis Inderman of La Porte, Hazel
Selcer and Clerice Walters of Livingston, Bernice Walker
of Conroe, and Flo Newby of San Antonio; and by
grandchildren, Alex, Michael, and Angela LeMaster,
Brian, Eric and Mark Holliday, and Chris, Jeremy,
Brianne, Keisha, and Robbie Holliday.
Pallbearers will be Alex and Michael LeMaster, Brian L.,
Eric, Robbie and Mark Holliday and Keith Walters. ”We
love you Papaw and we are going to miss you!”, said Mr.
Holliday’s grandchildren. Arrangements are with Taylor
Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

HOLLOWAY, FLOYD HOWARD
PALACIOS - Floyd Howard Holloway, 79, of Palacios, died Wednesday, Oct.
22, 2003.
He was born May 31, 1924, in Alton Park, Tenn., to the late James W. and
Sindia Henderson Holloway. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in
the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service.
Survivors: caregiver, Irene Mangum; and close friend Homer Stripland,
both of Palacios.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church,
the Rev. David Rush officiating.
A private burial will be held at Hawley Cemetery at a later date.

HOLLOWAY, ROBERT DEAN
Robert Dean Holloway, 71, of Palacios died Aug. 6, 2003 at Detar
Hospital in Victoria.
He was born Sept. 26, 1931 in Palacios to the late Gilva Lloyd and Leah
Idell Cook Holloway.
Mr. Holloway was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a
lifelong resident of Palacios.
In 1997, he retired from Alcoa with 45 years of service, and he was a
veteran of the Korean war serving in the US Army.
Survivors include wife Thelma Beard Holloway of Palacios and 2 daughters
and sons-in-law: Lucille and Mark Remlinger of Blessing and Fay and
George McMurry of Lake Conroe.
Funeral service will be 10 a. m. Monday, August 11, 2003, at the First
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Wells officiating.
Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the Palacios Funeral Home Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Chris Webb, Andy and Michael Beard, Ralph Brown,
Trammel Hunter and Leo Morish.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Bowers and J. C. Rush.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Palacios
or to the American Cancer Society.

 LAKE JACKSON - Services for
William Francis Holt 73, of 906 Magnolia, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the
Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City with the Rev. W. D. Baker
officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Mr. Holt died Thursday, April
16, 1981, at his home.
He was a veteran of World War
II, a member of the Masons and a retired construction engineer. He had
been a resident of Lake Jackson since 1950.
Mr.
Holt is survived by his wife, Bettye Holt of Lake Jackson, one daughter,
Ruth Sladek of La Grange, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alvin
Bravenec, Paul Baughman, Dr. James A. Stewart, George McGovney, George
Tyler and C. F. "Chuck" Schrieber.

James Hubbard
 BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - James Hubbard, 64, of Bay City,
died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003.
He was born June 22, 1939, in Matagorda County, to Ethma Hubbard and the
late Pat Hubbard.
Survivors: wife, Linda Hubbard; daughters, Adrienne Korff and Jamie
Hoffman, both of Bay City, Karen Meinardus of Blessing; sister, Patsy
Mason; and six grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, the Rev. Mike
Zimmerman officiating.

HURTA, ALPHON WILLIE "AL"
Alphon “Al” Willie Hurta, 87, of Midfield, Texas died September 19,
2001 at Matagorda General Hospital. He was born November 28, 1913 in
Karnes City, Texas to the late Frank Joe and Anna Miska Hurta. Mr. Hurta
was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, a resident of Midfield
since 1923, and a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. Mr. Hurta
served as Matagorda County Commissioner of Precinct No. 4 for 24 years.
Survivors include: wife, Mattie Nora “Totsy” Guynes Hurta of
Midfield; daughter, Nancy Gray of Midfield; one grandchild, Shannon
Gray. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Louise Hurta;
sisters, Sophie Roberts, Emma Sedlacek and Albina Bosak; and by brothers
Edwin E. Hurta, Louie Hurta, and Frank Hurta.
Graveside funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 21,
2001, at Hawley Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Haskell officiating.
