2021 Location Update: Located on the Mountain Laurel Ranch at 1360 Moore Rd NE. It is 1000 yards from the driveway entrance to the cemetery along a field road. The cemetery is enclosed & well maintained just hard to get up to. It can be seen using Google Earth and Google Maps.

Gillespie of Floyd; two sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Dott Hale of Riner, Paul and Susan Hale of Radford, Amy Waffensmith of Minnesota; four grandsons and wife, Steve Hale of Minnesota, Paul Ray, Jr., and Dianna Hale of Floyd, Phillip Hale of Floyd, Dwayne Hale of Riner; six granddaughters and husbands, Lori Reynolds of Minnesota, Sherrie Phillips of Minnesota, Patricia Crandell of Maryland, Lisa and Mike Miller of Riner, Teresa and Dale Caldwell of Riner, Deborah and Scott Janney of Terry's Fork; two stepchildren, Wayne Gillespie of Maryland, Margaret Murphy of California; 15 great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Edna Thomas. Walter Shelton Gillespie, 96, of Floyd died December 31, 2005, at Skyline Manor in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Harman Gillespie (1987), his second wife, Toye Hale Gillespie (2000) and his son, Wayne Gillespie (2004). Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Murphy, Lake Forest, CA; a daughter-in-law, Kam Gillespie, Oakland, MD; five grandchildren, Kristy Murphy Kenneth and spouse David Kenneth, Redondo Beach, CA, Shane Murphy, Santa Barbara, CA, Haley Gillespie, Oakland, MD, and Patricia Gillespie and Gordon Gillespie, Undenheim, Germany; and two stepsons, David Hale and spouse Dot of Riner, and Paul Hale and spouse Susan of Radford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Cannaday officiating. Burial will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday, with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m. A resident of Floyd since 1945, he worked for many years at Hercules Powder Plant in Radford while continuing to maintain his farm on Route 221. He was known by friends and neighbors for his love of fishing, his delight in giving away his home-grown melons, his devotion to Bible study and teaching, and his unquenchable spirit. Special recognition and gratitude go to Diane Wimmer, who has been his helper and care-giver for the past ten years. Acknowledged also are the following for their invaluable friendship and assistance, Kermit Grim, David Hale, Grant Belcher, Rosemary Wyman, Dr. Susan Osborne, and the staff at Skyline Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Walter Gillespie may be made to the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library.

GILLESPIE, Toye Hale, 84, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2000. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Marvin Hale, and two sons, James Lee Hale, and Jerry Joseph Hale. She is survived by her husband, Walter S. Gillespie of Floyd; two sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Dott Hale of Riner, Paul and Susan Hale of Radford, Amy Waffensmith of Minnesota; four grandsons and wife, Steve Hale of Minnesota, Paul Ray, Jr., and Dianna Hale of Floyd, Phillip Hale of Floyd, Dwayne Hale of Riner; six granddaughters and husbands, Lori Reynolds of Minnesota, Sherrie Phillips of Minnesota, Patricia Crandell of Maryland, Lisa and Mike Miller of Riner, Teresa and Dale Caldwell of Riner, Deborah and Scott Janney of Terry's Fork; two stepchildren, Wayne Gillespie of Maryland, Margaret Murphy of California; 15 great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Edna Thomas. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Elbert Lee Naff officiating. Interment will follow in Hale Family Cemetery, Floyd. Friends may call after 12 noon Saturday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.

Walter Shelton Gillespie, 96, of Floyd died December 31, 2005, at Skyline Manor in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Harman Gillespie (1987), his second wife, Toye Hale Gillespie (2000) and his son, Wayne Gillespie (2004). Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Murphy, Lake Forest, CA; a daughter-in-law, Kam Gillespie, Oakland, MD; five grandchildren, Kristy Murphy Kenneth and spouse David Kenneth, Redondo Beach, CA, Shane Murphy, Santa Barbara, CA, Haley Gillespie, Oakland, MD, and Patricia Gillespie and Gordon Gillespie, Undenheim, Germany; and two stepsons, David Hale and spouse Dot of Riner, and Paul Hale and spouse Susan of Radford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Cannaday officiating. Burial will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be Wednesday, with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m. A resident of Floyd since 1945, he worked for many years at Hercules Powder Plant in Radford while continuing to maintain his farm on Route 221. He was known by friends and neighbors for his love of fishing, his delight in giving away his home-grown melons, his devotion to Bible study and teaching, and his unquenchable spirit. Special recognition and gratitude go to Diane Wimmer, who has been his helper and care-giver for the past ten years. Acknowledged also are the following for their invaluable friendship and assistance, Kermit Grim, David Hale, Grant Belcher, Rosemary Wyman, Dr. Susan Osborne, and the staff at Skyline Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Walter Gillespie may be made to the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library.
