September 2, 1823:
article [2 interior columns, so cannot be scanned--BCSouders] regarding the August 23, 1823 meeting about a canal from Washington to the Great Cumberland Road. Meeting of delegates: Charles F. MERCER, Wm. T.T. MASON, Wm. ELZEY, Wm.M. M'CARTY, Wm. CHILTON, R.H. HENDERSON. Chair is John ROSE: Secretary is Maj. R. BRADEN.
 
p.2: [from the federal congress:] Re C and O Canal: On the initiative of Mr. [Chas. F.] Mercer, the house took up the bill; after much discussion and amendment, the following was passed: An act confirming the act of the legislature of Virginia, entitled "An act incorporating the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company and an act of the state of Maryland confirming the same" and then it was sent to the senate.
 
p.3: Articles (on the 4th instant) of the inauguration of the Hon. John Q. Adams.
 
p.3: Married by the Rev. John DUNN on Thurs the 17th ult., John HOLMES esq. to Miss Lydia VANSICKLE, all of this county.
