STAFFORD COUNTY

WAR OF 1812 VETERANS

Congress voted to declare war against England on June 17, 1812 and President James Madison signed the bill on June 18, 1812. The war ended on December 24, 1814. The War of 1812 was fought primarily at sea and along the Canadian border.

The following roster lists 153 men from Stafford County who served during the war. Almost all the men served in the 45th Regiment Virginia Militia, the militia regiment from Stafford County. They were used to defend Stafford County from British raids.
