Ramey, Celia Mae Hamilton McCain –
Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, 15 October 2007 Celia Mae Ramey, age 93, of Saint Paris passed away at 12:10
p.m. on October 13, 2007 in the McAuley Center, Urbana. Celia was born on November 28, 1913 in Champaign County, the
daughter of the late John H. and Blanche (Dunn) Hamilton. She married Walter
Ellsworth McCain on August 7, 1929 and he preceded her in death on June 12,
1966. She then married William Ramey on August 17, 1968 and he preceded her on
March 20, 1980. Celia is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Helen L.
Coleman of Jena, Louisiana, and Alice and Woody Baker of St. Paris. She is also
survived by nine grandchildren: Deby Baker Williams and Jeff (Vicki) Baker of
St. Paris, Nita Stokes and Christy (Clyde) Young of Jena, LA, Rochelle (Warren)
Owens of Tallahoma, TN, Rhonda (Tim) Boyd of Rockwood, T, Randy McCain of
Harriston, TN, Renee Cagle and Jason McCain of Urbana; 9 great-grandchildren,
David (Penni) Zerkle, and Lindsey (Kevin) Day of St. Paris, Mike Stokes, Jessie
(Dan) Snoody, and Holly (Charlie) Saville of Jena, LA, and Jennifer (John David)
Backastow of Chattanooga, TN, Justin Mumford of Springfield, Ohio, Misty (Jimmy)
Smith of Kingston, TN, and Zander McCain of Springfield. She is also the proud
great-great-grandmother of nine: Alex and Natalie Zerkle, Gabriel and Sophia
Day, Hannah, Gracie and Trent Stokes, Wayden Saville, and Emilee Renae Backastow.
She is also survived by three step-children: Robert and Bill Ramey of Urbana and
Sharon Ramey of Columbus, and one sister, Ethel Blankenship of Logan, Ohio. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Celia was
preceded in death by one son, Carl Eugene McCain, one brother, Floyd Hamilton,
four sisters, Mabel Hamilton, Glenna Hamilton, Hazel Garver and Lola Sudduth, a
son-in-law, Lloyd Coleman and three step-sons, Junior, Ronald and Leroy Ramey. Celia retired in 1975 from Piqua Engineering. She was a
member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Diamond Aerie #3491
of New Carlisle. She attended the St. Paris Church of God. Funeral services will
be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively
Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, with Reverend Jeff Richards of
North Lewisburg, presiding. Pall-bearers will be Jeff Baker, David Zerkle, Kevin
Day, Jason McCain, Justin Mumford and Mike Cornell. Burial will follow in
Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from
5:00 p.m. to 8: p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
the Johnson-St. Paris ES, P. O. Box 271, St. Paris, Ohio. Envelopes will be

REED--St. Paris News - Dispatch March 24, 1932
Mrs. Nettie Reed died Monday morning at 9:10 at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Ray Ward, north of town. Mrs. Reed has been with her daughter since
her illness in January at which time she became ill with pneumonia and other
complications developed which caused her death. She was the daughter of Andrew
and Elizabeth Frank and was born January 3, 1865 in Jackson twp. She was
united in marriage to Philip Reed, who preceded her in death five years ago.
They had been residents of this locality for many years. After her husband's
death she moved to St. Paris and lived on West Lynn street. She is survived
by two daughters, Mrs. Jess Anspaugh of New Carlisle and Mrs. Ray Ward. One
brother, McClellan Frank. Funeral service was held from the Ward home this
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in charge of Rev. J. W. Poorman and burial was
made in Spring Grove cemetery by Ira Frank, funeral director.

REED -- ST PARIS ERA DISPATCH, Thurs. 10 June 1887
"In the midst of life we are in danger" was fully verified last Saturday
forenoon in the sudden and unexpected killing of Wm. REED, a young farmer
of this township. Early in the morning he had come to town in the best of
spirits and went to BRUBAKER's warehouse where he received a $300 check for
grain that he had sold. He left there little thinking that "in the midst
of life" he was in the arms of death. He never realized it. As he and his
brother, Philip, were about to cross the railroad in front of an east-bound
freight train, their horse became frightened and broke loose from the spring
wagon pulling Philip, who was driving, out and thus rescuing him from a terrible
death. The horse got away and Philip, seeing the train coming, took hold
of the shafts and attempted to pull the wagon across the main track, but
the engine struck it near the hind wheel and carried it, together with Wm.
who either didn't have time to jump out or else lost his presence of mind,
down the platform to the mail crane, where he was thrown out onto the lawn.
He was immediately picked up and taken to the depot, where it was found that
his skull had been crushed, a hole forced into this head just back of his
right ear and an arm, a leg and two ribs broken. A short time afterwards
he was removed to the American House, where he died at 10:38 o'clock, living
two hours after being hurt.
This is one of the saddest accidents that have ever been known to happen
in St. Paris, and should be a warning to all persons who have occasion to
cross a railroad. It is said young REED was cautioned not to cross until
the train had passed, but he didn't heed the timely warning.
The statement has been made that the train was running at a very high rate
of speed, but the engineer says he was making from 8 to 10 miles an hour.
The Company surely can not be held accountable for that death of this young
farmer.
He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant church for a number of years, and was
loved and respected by all who knew him. He lost his wife and one child about
a year ago, and now he has gone to meet them. He leaves two children, a father
and mother, several brothers and sisters, and many friends to mourn their
loss.
RHODES-- THE OHIOAN, Urbana, OH, Thursday, August, 25 1825:
On morning of the 22d inst. after a lingering illness, WILLIAM RHODESin the 86th year of age; leaving a wife and a large number of relations and friends to lament his loss. Mr. RHODES was a soldier of the Virginia line on the Continental establishment-through the whole of the Revolutionary War. He was a man, in early life, of uncommon athletic powers; and in the course of his services if my memory serves me. (having received the facts from himself,) he received five severe wounds; by which he was so far disabled, that, for the last 8 or 10 years, he received small pettance from the bounty of his country, which served to smoothe his declining years. His remains were intered in this place on the 23d, with military honors, by Capt. Ambrozene's company of volunteers, in the presence of a large concourse of citizens and strangers.
The following next address was spoken by Gen. Vance, at the time of the interment of Mr. Rhode's body.

You have this day been called upon to pay the last tribute of respect to a departed solder of the Revolutionary Army: one who had not merely the honor of having his name enrolled amongst that band of patriots and worthis, but one whose blood crimsoned the snows of Trenton, the fields of Princeton, and the battlements of Stony Point. Venerable man! Why didst thou not pay the debt of nature on the walls of York-Town, where the measure of thy glory was complete, and whence thy name would have have been, by faithful history handed down in posterity, as one of the martyrs whose lives were offered us for the liberties of their country! Yes, there thou wouldst have had the sympathetic tear of your beloved commander, the Father of his country, to have smoothed thy passage to the Eternal World! But why compain? Are not thy service deeply engraven on the hearts of posterity? And notwithstanding thy mortal remains shall inhabit the cold confines of that vaulted clay, yet thy name shall live in the hearts of thy countrymen, a mausoleum that will be more lasting than monumental brass. January 2007 Bertha I. Rice, age 78, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 19,
2007 at her daughter's home in Columbus, Ohio. Born Dec. 16, 1928 in
Christiansburg, Ohio. A member and former Sunday school teacher at the Tremont City
United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by parents Bert & Frances Riley, husband
Lowell E. Rice, brother John Riley, and sister Wilda Blevins. She is survived by sister Lura Bishop of Urbana, and brother
Bert (Joyce) Riley of Pace, Fl. Beloved mother of Kathleen Austin of Columbus
and Angie Kuehl of Hilliard, Ohio; grandmother of Nicole (Devin) Moore, Jennifer
(Travis) Boggs, William Kuehl, and Angela (Joe) Buerger; great-grandmother of
Eli Alan Boggs. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22,
2007 in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana with Rev. Walter Mock

23 February 2007 Vera W. Richardson, 79, of Troy died at 4:47 p.m. on
Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at Triumph Hospital in Lima. She was born on Sept 3, 1927 in Jackson Township, Champaign
County to William Henry Marshall and Estella (Bower) Marshall. She graduated
from Christiansburg, Jackson Schools. She married James E. Richardson. She retired from Arc Abrasives after 20 years of service and
was formerly employed by Troy Sunshade Co. She is survived by a grandson, Bill Richardson of Troy, a
granddaughter, Sara Richardson of Covington, great-grandchildren Travis,
Frederick, Jonathan, Jarrett, Mara Lee and Kaylee. She is also survived by many
nieces, nephews, cousins, a stepsister, Phyllis Cox of McBain, Mich. and a
stepsister-in-law, Maxine Davidson of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son,
James Richardson, brother, Robert, sister, Mildred, stepbrothers, Orvin and Herb
and stepmother, Marie Davidson Marshall. Friends and family may call on Monday, Feb. 26, from 1-3 p.m.

RICHESON -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs, March 22, 1945
A memorial service was held for Herman RICHESON at the morning worship service
of Zion Lutheran church, Sunday, March 18.
The service was conducted by pastor Herman ANDRES, who also read Mr. RICHESON
's service record. A solo "A Little Prayer," was sung by Miss Mary BLAIR.
The sermon was preached by the Rev. George W. MILEY, D. D., president of
the Ohio Synod of the United Lutheran Church of America.
Herman RICHESON was received into membership of Zion Lutheran church by Rev.
MILEY on one of his former visits to the congregation, April 23, 1944; and
it was for that reason that Rev. MILEY responded to the request of the RICHESON
family to take part in this memorial service.

Mrs. Alonzo RICHESON, North Lewisburg - Mrs. Rosie Etta RICHESON, 65, wife
of Alonzo RICHESON of North Lewisburg, died Saturday morning in her home
after a two-year illness. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason BROWNING.
Mrs. RICHESON, who lived here for 45 years, had been a practical nurse for
many years. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Lucille
ODELL of Urbana, and three sisters, Mrs. Olive M. WARD, Mrs. Anna GABRILL,
and Mrs. Goldie BECKWITH, all of St. Paris.

Homer ROBERTS of Christiansburg died at 11:00 a. m. Thursday of last week
of a sudden heart attack at his residence in Christiansburg.
Head of the aid for the aged in Urbana, ROBERTS , is survived by his wife,
Valencine; one daughter, Diantha, at home; his mother Mrs. Hattie ROBERTS
, Christiansburg; one brother Glen ROBERTS of Troy; and one sister Mrs. Lola
CROUSE, Alcony.
Roberts was born north of Christiansburg and was a member of Mt. Olivet Lodge,
the chaper and commandery of the Masons.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday in the Methodist church in
Christiansburg with Rev. J. K. PRICE officiating. Burial was made in the
Honey Creek cemetery in charge of the Richeson-Wickham Funeral Home.

November 2007 Robert Pearl Ropp, 77, of Urbana, passed away November 12,
2007 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was born November 13, 1929 in Cable, the son of Elmer and
Ethel (Eckurd) Ropp. Robert was an employee of Johnson Manufactoring for 54 years
and also farmed. He loved fishing, sports and hunting as well as spending time

1 October 2007 Anthony "Tony" L. Rose, age 53, of Sidney died unexpectedly
on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 in his residence. He was born on Nov. 30, 1953 in Piqua, Ohio, the son of the
late Lloyd Rose and Janet (Kauffman) Rose. He is survived by his mother and
step-father, Janet and Eugene Elsner of Fletcher and six children: Tobi (Scott)
VanScoy of Rosewood, Heather (Dave) Taynor of Findlay, Ohio, Traci (Ryan) Pine
of Rosewood, Holli (Curtis) Enis of Sidney, Tyler Rose of Sidney and Kylie Davis
of Sidney. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Madilyn and Zachery
VanScoy, Morgan and Marissa Pine, William Hudson and Wesley Enis. He is also survived by four brothers: Tim Rose of Conover,
Terry (Jackie) Rose of Fletcher; Ted (Lee) Rose of Xenia, Tom (Jacqui) Rose of
Troy; two stepbrothers: Jeff (Jackie) Elsner of St. Paris and Mike (Cheryl)
Elsner of Piqua, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, two sisters, Linda Kay Rose and
Tondra Connolly, preceded him in death. Tony was a 1972 graduate of Graham High School where he
received All Conference and All State honors as a linebacker in football. He
participated in FFA. He was employed by American Trim in Sidney as a journeyman
machinist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping and especially liked to
travel to the Tennessee mountains. He liked sports and he was a Cleveland Browns
fan. He loved muscle cars, especially Chevelles, and he liked Harley Davidson
motorcycles. Spending time with his family was important to him and he was a
proud grandparent. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 at
11 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris
with Reverend Russ Tichenor of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding.

from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Roush, Leo – Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, 19 April 2010 Leo Roush, 82, of Urbana, passed away, Friday, April 16, 2010 in the Ohio
State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born February 11, 1928 in Urbana, the son of Clinton Valorus and Ada
Marie (Woodruff) Roush. Leo was a 1946 graduate of Concord High School; where he excelled as an
athlete. He was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed basketball, baseball and pitching
horseshoes. He enjoyed the outdoors; farming (for more than 20-plus years),
mowing or gardening. Leo retired from CT Communications, Urbana after 20 years
of service and he attended the Mt. Carmel Friends Church. Leo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; he
never met a stranger. He will be sadly missed by his family; his wife of 59 years, Beatrice
(Newman) Roush, his son, Tim (Kathy) Roush, his daughters, Jo Layne (Fred) Geer
& Sandy (John) Tapp all of Urbana, his grandchildren, Lori (Chuck) Gentis, Timy
(Andrea) Roush, Trevin Geer & Eli Tapp, his great-grandchildren, Ethan & Kirbie

Rowe, Mary Ellen Dibert - Urbana Daily Citizen, 22 January 2007
Mary Ellen (Dibert) Rowe, 87, formerly of Urbana, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 in the home of her daughter in Cable, where she had resided for the last 15 months.
She was born May 4, 1919 in Tremont City to the late Samuel and Alta (Bishop) Dibert. She was married to Lawrence Vernon Rowe on Oct. 14, 1940 in Maysville, Kentucky.
She had been an active member of the Nazarene Church in St. Paris, but in recent years had attended the Nazarene Church in Urbana. Mary was a member of the North Mothers Club for many years. She was also a charger member of the Scholarship Bowling League and was granted life-time bowling membership in 1999. She continued to bowl until 2003, when failing health began to limit her activity. Even then, she continued to go to the bowling alley every week to cheer on family members. She was an active participant in Terre Haute and Westville alumni organizations, and enjoyed activities with "The Golden Girls," a loose-knit organization of women with whom she attended school. She also enjoyed playing euchre at the Senior Citizen's Center and elsewhere. One of her favorite pastimes involved various sewing and craft projects, using the thousands of fabric "yo-yo's" that she made. but most of all, she enjoyed just spending time with her family, including the regular Saturday evening domino games.
She is survived by a brother, Charles (Mary) Dibert of Medway and her children: Larry (Peggy) Rowe and Terry (Jo) Rowe of Urbana, Sue (Jim) Clemens of Cable, Randy (Mitch) Rowe of Columbus, Tammy (Earl) Walter of Huber Heights, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Rowe of Cincinnati, many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, Ronnie; brothers Loren and Paul Dibert; and sisters Naomi Dibert, Lois Seal, Ruth Smith, and Esther Printz, and great grandchildren Janice Ormsbee and Connor Rowe.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Urbana, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 with Rev. John Ware and Rev. Mark Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Cemetery, Donnelsville.

2007 Richard E. Russell, 80, of North Lewisburg passed away
Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in the Mercy McAuley Center Urbana. He was born November 6, 1926 in Mingo, Ohio the son of John
Wesley and Cora (Newman) Russell. Richard was a 1945 graduate of North Lewisburg High School. He served his country in the United States Army. Richard and
his wife were the owners and operators of the Russell TV service for 48 years.
He enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Leatrice Ann (Swisher)
Russell of North Lewisburg, his daughters, Cylinda (Gary “Woody”) Herron of
Zanesfield, Becky Hunt of North Lewisburg and Vicky (Larry) McCauley of
Marysville, his sons, Randy (Linda) Thomas of Urbana & Richie (Michele) Russell

Lewisburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July
9, 2007 in the funeral home with Pastor Kathy Reiff. Burial will follow in Maple
Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacob Detwiler’s Missionary Fund,
Grace Chapel Church, 500 Linden St., West Liberty, Ohio 43357 or to Community
Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
Funeral services for William Henry RURTZAHN , 82, were held Sunday at 2:00
p.m. at the Bert Richeson funeral home. Rev. A. J. RIETH, pastor of the
Christiansburg Methodist church officiated. Burial was in the Casstown
cemetery.
He was a retired farmer and passesd away Thursday at 8:30 p. m. at the home
of his son Ernest, northwest of Christiansburg. Death followed several weeks
of illness.
In addition to the son at whose home he died he leaves a foster son, Robert
KAVANAUGH in the armed forces and stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
