Tapp, Mary Louise Lower – Urbana Daily Citizen, Tuesday, 12
June 2007 Mary Louise (Lower) Tapp, 93, of Urbana, passed away Sunday,
June 10, 2007. She was born January 4, 1914 in Champaign County, Ohio, the
daughter of Vernon & Clara Lourindia (Pence) Lower. Mary graduated from
Christiansburg Jackson School. She worked at the P. D. Cosmos Ice Cream Store
for nine years, and worked during WWII at Bauer Brothers for nine months making
ammunition. She also worked at the National Supply for three months wrapping
supplies for servicemen, then Woolworth’s at Park Shopping Center and downtown
Springfield. Mary attended the Faith Wesleyan Church, Springfield, Ohio. Mary’s personality was determined, plus she had a super
memory and was a very hard worker. She loved outdoor work, growing flowers and gardening. She
loved animals, raising chickens, and had an egg route. She lived on Stony Creek
Road for most of her adult life. As a young girl, she raised ducks and sold them
for money to graduate. She always enjoyed mushroom hunting and hosting “weenie”
roasts and having her nieces and nephews over. Mary is survived by several nieces and nephews, and her
special friends and caregivers, Tom & Diana Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Melvin
James Tapp of 36 years. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday,
June 13, 2007 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Funeral services will be held
at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Berridge officiating.
Burial will follow at the Terre Haute Cemetery.
TAYLOR -- ST. PARIS NEWS-DISPATCH, Thurs. 22 April 1937
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Wilbur J. TAYLOR , 35,
who passed away Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John TAYLOR
, south of St. Paris. His death was attributed to heart trouble, having been
in failing health for two years.
Mr. TAYLOR had lived in Troy most of his life, but had lived with his parents,
the past years. He taught school at Lostcreek fifteen years ago and later
was employed at the Waco Aircraft plant in Troy. He was a native of St. Paris
and was graduated from Wittenberg College, Springfield. He also at one time
was a member of Troy baseball teams working as a pitcher. He was a member
also of the St. Paris Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie TAYLOR , and
two sisters, Mrs. Howard MYERS, Troy, and Mrs. Elwood WILGUS, Bellevue. He
was a brother to Lawrence TAYLOR who preceded him in death eighteen months
ago.
Funeral services were held at the Frank and Barger funeral home, the Rev.
A. O. LONG, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was
made in Evergreen Cemetery.
TERRELL -- The Independent, Attica, Harper County, Kansas,
Thursday, 28 August 1913
A. Terrell Dead - One week ago yesterday morning, the writer walked down
the street with Mr. A. Terrell, form his home to his place of business. He
spoke of feeling so well and expressed his sympathy for Mrs. Harding, after
inquiring as to her condition. He spoke of how he enjoyed his recent visit
to his boyhood home in Ohio and to the home of his daughter in Kansas City
and told of his plans for a trip to California later in the season. Ever
cheerful, on this morning he seemed more cheerful than usual.
At about 1:00 he was stricken with the heat, after having assisted in loading
some lumber in the yard and was born to his home in an unconscious condition.
Dr. Hays was summoned and all that medical skill and the ministration of
loving hands could do, was done to relieve his suffering, but to no avail,
and at 5 o'clock Friday morning he passed to the great beyond.
Mr. Terrell was one of Attica's most public spirited citizens, ever foremost
in any enterprise for the betterment of the town and community. He was prominent
in politics and served one term on the board of county commissioners of this
county. He was a member of the G. A. R. and one of the oldest members of
the Attica Masonic lodge. He will be greatly missed by the entire
community.
OBITUARY. Alexander W. Terrell was born in Adams township Champaign County,
Ohio, May 3d, 1846. Departed this life at his home in Attica, Kansas August
22d, 1913, aged 67 years, 3 months, 19 days.
He was married to Eliza Ann Moore July 9th, 1864. To this union twelve children
were born, five of whom survive the father, and the mother who passed on
less than a year ago: O. C. Terrell, C. D. Terrell, Mrs. Ethel Meyer and
Miss Addie Terrell live in Attica. Mrs. Isora Gulke living in Kansas City.
Mr. Terrell with his family moved from Ohio to Kansas twenty nine years ago
and settled on a farm two miles north-east of this city. Here he lived until
about eight years ago, when he moved to Attica, where he has since made his
home. With his sons he as actively engaged in business and his extensive
interests made him well known to all in this community.
During the Civil war he served his country for over three years, and was
wounded at the battle of Gettysburg. He enlisted when fifteen years old in
the 42d Ohio Inft. which was Gen. Garfield's old regiment.
In early life he united with the Presbyterian Church, and for a number of
years served prominently in the work of that church.
As a man he was loyal to the best interests of his country and to the community
in which he lived. As a father and husband he was beloved by his family,
who in their sad and sudden bereavement have the sympathy of their many
friends.
The body lay in state at the family residence from ten to three o'clock Sunday
and was viewed by a large number of friends. The funeral was in charge of
Attica Lodge No. 262, A. F. and A. M. of which the deceased was a member.
Rev. W. B. Enos, assisted by Rev. M. C. Pasley conducted the religious services
at the M. E. church at 3 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest
with Masonic honors in the Attica cemetery. About fifty of the Masonic brethren
participated in the last sad rites at the cemetery.
TERRELL -- The Independent, Attica, Harper County, Kansas,
Thursday, 19 December 1912
Death of Mrs. A. Terrell. After a lingering illness covering many months,
Mrs. A. Terrell died on Thursday, Dec. 12th, at Geuda Springs, where she
had been taken for medical treatment.
The remains were shipped to Attica, arriving here Friday night, in charge
of the sorrowing husband and eldest son. The body lay in state Saturday at
the family home, where it was viewed by a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the U. B. church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev.
W. B. Enos preached a short sermon, after which Welcome Chapter No. 203,
O. E. S., of which the deceased was an honored and loved member, took charge
of the ceremony, and the body was laid to rest in the Attica cemetery with
the honors due a member of this order. The pall bearers were also brothers
of the Eastern Star. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, and
the church was filled with those who had come to pay their last respects
to one whom all loved and respected.
Eliza Ann Moore was born in Westville, Ohio, on the 27th day of October,
1846, and departed this life Dec. 12, 1912, aged 66 years, 1 month and 15
days.
Thackery, Joseph C. - Urbana Daily Citizen, Tuesday, 23 January 2007 Joseph C. Thackery, a retired National Labor Relations Board
appellate attorney, died of congestive heart failure on Jan. 19, 2007, in Silver
Spring, Md. Mr. Thackery was born in Camden, Ark. and grew up on a farm
near Urbana, Ohio. He was a graduate of Marietta (Ohio) College where he played
football and rowed on the crew and of the Law School, Duke University. After
retirement in 1974 he received a Master of arts in Creative Writing from
American University where he taught writing for several years. He was author of
a Washington Writers' Publishing House poetry collection, "The Dark Above Mad
River," and of about 20 published short stories. He was also an amateur oil and
watercolor painter. Mr. Thackery's N.L.R.B. service included trial posts at
Pittsburgh, PA, and Atlanta, GA., in addition to the appellate years in
Washington. He was an Army and Navy veteran of WWII and participated in
the invasions of Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, being awarded six battle
stars and a unit commendation medal. His marriage to Janet Houston ended in divorce. Survivors include two sons,
Jonathan P. Thackery of Los Angeles and James H. Thackery of Eureka Springs,
Ark. Thompson, Harold A. "Bud" Thompson - Urbana Daily Citizen,
Monday, 02 April 2007 Harold A. "Bud" Thompson, Jr. of Saint Paris, age 79 years,
dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather silently
passed away March 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. in his residence after a long and
courageous battle with lung cancer. Bud was born on February 7, 1928 in Shelby County, Ohio the
son of Harold "Shorty" and Marabelle (Geuy) Thompson. Bud married Iva Marie (Poole) Thompson May 1, 1949 in the
Saint Paris Methodist church. They were married 57 years. Bud graduated from Johnson-Saint Paris High School in May of
1946, and thereafter attended The Ohio State University majoring in Civil
Engineering. In 1949, Bud began employment with the Appliance Shop in
Saint Paris, a business started, owned and operated by his father. Following
Bud's father's death in 1957, Bud and his brother Darrell continued operating
the Appliance Shop as a partnership and thereafter as a corporation until
closing in August 2003. Bud was a member of the Saint Paris United Methodist Church,
a former member and Sea Scout Leader, a former youth Sunday school teacher of
the Methodist Church, a former member and president of the Saint Paris Lions
Club and a member of the Saint Paris Masonic Lodge. For thirty years, Bud served the Saint Paris community as a
member of the Saint Paris council and as a member and former president of the
Saint Paris Board of Public Affairs. Always interested and energetic in
supporting the betterment of the village, Bud also was a member and helped to
form the "Industrial, Commercial, and Residential (I. C. R.) Corp. and for more
than 35 years I. C. R. served as a means for promoting and achieving the
economic growth and development of the Saint Paris community. Throughout Bud's many years of working as a mechanical
contractor, providing plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and water systems
services throughout Champaign Co. and many neighboring counties, Bud continually
employed innovative practices and utilized the latest tools and equipment in
accomplishing the project at hand. Bud always gave full measure to his family, business and
community. His council, vision, and service will be greatly missed by all who
knew him, worked with him and loved him. Bud always had a smile, and sincere greeting for everyone
whether he knew them or not. One of his favorite pastimes was telling stories
(to anyone who would listen) most of which were from his own experiences. This
was his grandchildren's favorite time with him. Surviving Bud are his wife Marie of Saint Paris, sons Nathan
(Pam) Thompson of Beavercreek and Daniel (Jeanne) Thompson of Sidney;
grandchildren, Olivia Thompson of Seattle, Washington, Jason Thompson of
Seattle, Washington, Andrew Thompson of Evanston, Ill., Jennifer Thompson of
Philadelphia, PA., great-grandchildren, Simon James Thompson and Phineas Archer
Thompson of Evanston, Ill.; two sisters, June Purk of Urbana and Jayne (Merrill)
Craig of Dayton; a brother, Darrell (Jeanne) Thompson of Saint Paris, Ohio and
several nieces, nephews and many, many good friends also survive. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty and
Marabelle Thompson. Bud will always be loved and greatly missed by his family. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 from 5 p.m.
to 8 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint
Paris, Ohio. Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3,
2007 from 11 a.m. in the Spring Grove Cemetery, N. Neck Hill Road, Saint Paris
with Reverend Doug Upton of the Saint Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N.

Thornton, Jay Ernest – Urbana Daily Citizen, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 Jay Ernest Thornton, 66, died Feb. 22, 2010, in Beaumont, Texas. Jay was a 1961 graduate of Graham High School. Surviving are his parents, Paul and Cordelia T. Clark, nephews Brad of St.
Paris and Quinn of Lima, great-nephew Geoffrey, great-nieces, Meaghan, Josie and
Reagan. There will be no services
She was married to Alexander Terrell on July 9, 1864, and united with the
M. E. church in Westville, when 15 years of age, and was a true Christian,
a good wife and mother, loved alike by her family and friends. She leaves
to mourn her death, her husband, two sons, C. D. and O. C. Terrell, three
daughters, Mrs. W. H. Meyer, Miss Addie Terrell of Attica, and Mrs. Gus Gaulke
of Kansas City, a brother, J. A. Moore of this place, and a sister, Mrs.
William Snapp of Kansas City.
Trout, Carl M. – Urbana Daily Citizen, Monday, 19 April 2010 Carl M. Trout, 69, of St. Paris passed away Friday April 16, 2010. He was born July 13, 1941 in Spring Hills, Ohio the son of Charles and Della
Trout. Mr. Trout worked at Val Decker meat packing company in Piqua for 20
years, and later retired from Honda of America. Following his retirement he was
employed in Ann Schmidt Chrysler Plymouth. Earlier in his career he spent eight
years with the National Guard. Mr. Trout enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as gardening,
fishing and travel. Survivors include his wife Peggy Sue; daughters and
sons-in-law Audra (Tab) Worsham, Carmel (Scott) Wiford, Nichole (Rich) Clark;
sister and brother-in-law Barbara (Dennis) Kauffman; grandchildren include
Danielle, Jacob, Jared, Carson, Mackenzie and Andrew. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7:30 pm at Jennings Farley Funeral Home,
5591 US Route 68 South, West Liberty, Ohio, where Funeral Services will be held
11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery. If desired

Robert TOWLER died at his home near Terre Haute early Saturday morning. Mr.
TOWLER was past 76 years of age. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles
WEAVER, and Mrs. W. E. GRAVES of Terre Haute.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon from the Terre Haute
church and burial was made in Terre Haute cemetery by L.K. Jones, undertaker.
TUCKER -- The Muncie Morning Star, Muncie, Delaware Co., Indiana,

SHEIDLER MAN SUCCUMBS
Robert C. TUCKER, 72 years old, a veteran of the civil war and a well known
man in the northern part of the county, passed away last night at 10 o'clock
at his home in Shideler. Mr. Tucker was a member of Company B, Sixty-sixth
Ohio Regiment. He is survived by the widow, two daughters, Mrs. A. V. (sic
- should be "A. B.") Manor and Mrs. J. A. Muntrode (sic - should be "Wintrode")
of Cleveland; one stepson and six grandchildren. The body will be taken to
Cocord, O. for burial.
NOTES: Robert Charles TUCKER was born 16 Nov 1843 in Champaign Co., OH, and
moved to Indiana in 1898 - d 6 Sep 1917 in Shidler, Delaware Co., IN - buried
next to his first wife, Lucy Ann McInturff (1853-1876), d/o Frederick McINTURFF
& Elenor BRYANT, in Concord Church Cemetery, Concord Twp., Champaign
Co., OH - Lucy's parents and dozens of her McINTURFF relatives are also buried
in the Concord Chuch Cemetery.
