On Sunday, January 16, 1949, a baby boy was born to the late Cedo, Sr. and Mary Williams Sardinea in Markham, Texas, whom they named Ural (affectionately known as Mike). Ural was the fifth of seven children.

Mike accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior under the leadership of the late Rev. Rudolph Martin at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He was a faithful member until his death. He was a graduate of Tidehaven High School in El Maton, TX.

Mike transitioned from earthly life to everlasting life on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Matagorda Regional Hospital in Bay City, Texas.

Mike leaves to mourn, but always to love and cherish his many loving memories to remain in their hearts: two loving and caring sisters, Sharon Sardinea of Markham, Texas and Ora Sardinea Fields of Galveston, Texas; two brothers, Cedo (Willie) Sardinea, Jr. of Markham, Texas and Andrew Sardinea, Sr. (Gertrude) of Houston, Texas; three aunts, Evelyn Williams and Annie Williams of Houston and Amy Coulter of Van Vleck, Texas; one uncle, Edward Lathan of Houston, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Lonnie Sardinea, Sr., and Larry Sardinea.

Geanetta Shephard Smith

BAY CITY - Funeral services for Geanetta Shephard Smith, 64, formerly of Markham, will be held Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m., at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Markham, with burial to follow at Markham Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-5197.

Geanetta L. Smith

Geanetta L. Smith formerly of Markham, Texas, passed away at her home in Houston, Texas on March 22, 2010. She was preceded in death by her father, Alexander Sheppard, Jr., aunt Vivian Crawford, and her grandparents Eddie and Lillie Allen. To mourn her passing, she leaves behind her mother, Blanchetta Allen Sheppard, her aunt Ruth Ashton, her children Marshandria L. Smith, Marshall A. Smith (Andy), Roosevelt Smith, Jr., one daughter-in-law Tammy P. Peters and three grandchildren: Chante’ D. Smith, Alexandra E. Mobley and Jasmine S. Edwards. She also leaves behind one stepson John P. Rutherford and her ex-husband Roosevelt Smith, Sr., in addition to a host of many family and friends. We give special thanks to friend Vivian Robinson & cousin and classmate Ozell Crockett for all they have done.

Annie Smith

MARKHAM - Funeral services for Annie Smith, 97, of Markham, will be Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 11 a.m., at the Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ben Hadden officiating and the Rev. Murry Martin is the pastor.

Burial will follow in Markham Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be today in the chapel of Green's Mortuary from 3-8 p.m.

Sister Smith Died on Thursday, July 5, 2007, in the home of her daughter in Houston.

Annie L. Smith

A Time to be Born: Sis. Annie L. Smith was born on November 19, 1909 in Houston, Texas to Manchie and Edith McGreggor. She was an only child.

A Time to Plant: Sis. Smith was raised in the Church. Her father, Manchie McGreggor, was a Deacon and attended Church every Sunday. Rev. Jeff Jacks baptized her at an early age. She joined St. John’s Baptist Church in Houston, Texas and taught Sunday School.

A Time to Love: Sis. Smith married Robert Smith March 19, 1939. They moved to Bay City, Texas in 1941. To this union one daughter was adopted, Madelyn Yvonne.

A Time to Build: Sis. Smith joined Enterprise Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. C. H. Brown, Sr.’s leadership. She was instrumental in many capacities of the church, surrounding churches and the district. She began the Junior Church Choir where she served as the first matron. She was President of Mission No. II Choir where she served as the first matron. She taught the Adult Women’s class and was Music Director for the Sunday School. She also served as Chairman of the Deaconess, while her husband, Robert Smith, Sr. held the position of Chairman of the Deacon Board. She was a member of the Bible Band and Vice-President of the Women’s Chorus. Outside the Church she held the position of musician for Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Markham, Texas and also filled in at the Federation. She served in the Independent Missionary General Baptist Association of Texas for over 50 years in several positions including Board Member, Area Missionary, teacher and the Director of Vacation Bible School in the Sunday School and BTU Congress.

For many years Sis. Smith would go out into the community and pray for the sick in their homes and at the hospital. She also served on the Board of the Economic Action Committee. She was presented an honorary High School diploma by Booker T. Washington High School in Houston Independent School District in 2001, being the oldest ever to receive this honor.

A Time to Die: Sis. Smith departed this life on Thursday, July 5, 2007. Her husband, Deacon Robert Smith, Sr., preceded her in death on February 25, 1977.

A Time to Mourn: Those whom she loved most and who loved her in return is her daughter, Madelyn, and son-in-law, Gifford Johnson, Jr., grandson, Jonathan, granddaughter, Erica, great-grandchildren, Haybert, Manchie and Audria and a host of relatives and friends.
