SURNAME: Eades, Roberts
DATE: 24 December 2003
NAME: Judy Metz

QUERY:
I recently found my ancestors Thomas Eades and Joseph Roberts living together in the 1860 census. They were listed in the "Chapel Hill" post office.

Can anyone tell me where the Chapel Hill post office was ?

Many thanks !

SURNAME: SHIPP, HIRE, HYER, HEIER
DATE: 1 December 2003
NAME: Patrick Visser

QUERY:

I'm seeking information on Benjamin SHIPP (Shepp) and Peggy Heier/HIRE

In their son Benjamin's (Jr.) civil war records indicate he was born in Fluvanna County, VA June 8, 1834, and moved at age 15 to Higland County, Ohio where he is listed as a 'boarder' and 'student' with another family. It is possible his father, Benjamin Shipp, had died, and his mother Margaret "Peggy" Hire Shipp was widowed, as we find this name in the census of 1850 in Fluvanna County, VA, which may be her? Note: Benjamin (the son) spelled his surname "SHIPP" in all records, including census, through the civil war, when we find the spelling changed to SHEPP. It is strongly suspected, his parents had the surname "SHIPP".

SURNAME: Moon/Snead
DATE: 26 November 2003
NAME: moon2113@msn.com

QUERY:

We are building in Flluvanna about 3 miles from Fork Union.  My brother in Law has researched some of the Moon family history so I will have to give him your web site information.  All I know is that the Moon's were from Fluvanna and the Scottsville area and Mrs. Moon remarried a couple of times.

Who I am interested in is the family who owned our land, the Sneads.  My husband's mother gave me a year book that they had gotten out of the old house on our land in the 1950's.  It is a 1916 Fork Union Military Academy Yearbook called the Skirmisher.  It has a wonderful dedication in the front to Charles Goodall Snead who was a captain in the Civil war.  If you know of anyone looking for information on the Snead family I wouldn't mind sharing this information.

Charles Snead also served in the Fluvanna Artillery.  He also was commander of the Fluvanna Camp of Confederate Veterans.  He was also the Vice-President of the Board of Trustees for Fork Union Military Academy.

SURNAME: Johnson
DATE: 21 August 2003
NAME: Charles F. Price

QUERY:

I posted a query here in April 2002 asking for information about a maternal ancestor, James Johnson, born in Scotland about 1750, died in Versailles, IN in 1850, who enlisted in the Continental Army at Point of Fork in Fluvanna County.  At the time I believed he had enlisted in 1779; subsequent research has shown he enlisted in the spring of 1781 in Lt. Col. Thomas Gaskins' First Virginia Continental Battalion, then transferred to the 1st Continental Light Dragoons in July 1781.  Last October an individual responded to my query but the answer was deleted from my computer by accident.  I am trying to establish contact with the person who responded to my query.  Since 2002 I have done a wealth of research on the military service of Johnson in the Revolution, and am willing to share it.  I am hoping this query will be read by the person who responded last year.

I am trying to find the marriage of Benjamin Shepp (Shipp) and Margaret "Peggy" Hire (Heier/Hyer) in Fluvanna County, circa 1830 - 1834.  Also, to find a DOD or cemetery location for either. Benjamin believed died 1834 - 1849.

SURNAME: Manley
DATE: 2 August 2003
NAME: Nancy Wilkerson

QUERY:

I have reason to believe that John Manley who settled in Fluvanna County was an ancestor of mine. I have received information that he and his brother William came to VA from Maryland after the Revolution. John drew land in Fluvanna around 1800 and settled there from Dinwiddie County. His brother William moved on to Georgia. John died around 1823.

My fellow researcher states that he believes John had sons by the name of David and Abner who also moved to GA.

Any and all information would be appreciated and of course I will be happy to share whatever I have.
