NAME:  kelley.ty@verizon.net

QUERY:  I am seeking information on Vincent Hill of Fork Union, Fluvanna County, VA.  Because he was born in 1832 (or thereabout) my family thinks he may have been a slave. He was married twice (well as far as marriage went with slaves) to Mammie "Nannie" Hill (who was half white) and Elvira Ann Coleman-Hill. Between the the two wives, he had 15 children of whom I have the names. Any information on this man or his family would be much appreciated. By the way some of his daughters married into the Scott and James family of Fluvanna County.

SURNAME:  Ford, England
DATE: 17 September 2005
NAME:
OkiegrlGG@aol.com

QUERY:  My 3rd great-grandfather, John Ford Sr. was married in Fluvanna County Va. in 1785 to Elizabeth England and according to his Rev. pension papers, he was born in 1762 in Albermarle County Va.
I am trying to find anything via the net to research him and find out his parents names. Quite a few years ago whenever I first began my research on this John Ford Sr., I was given the information that his father's name is JOHN T. FORD, however I've never found anything to substantiate this.  This John T. Ford was born in 1733 according to the informant and no wife's name.
My John Ford leaves Fluvanna County with his wife and children sometime between 1801/02 for E. Tn. He lead a wagon train of settlers from Virginia and the Carolinas to Grassy Cove TN. and dies there in 1844. He and his wife are buried in the Grassy Cove Methodist Church.
Would love to share all the info I have on this man and his wife. Supposedly his brother's name is Reuben Ford and he may have had a sister named Elizabeth (and she possibly married a Narramore). He also had a son named Reuben William Ford, and this is my direct line. His other son's name is (Dr.) John Ford Jr.

SURNAME:  Wood
DATE: 8 August 2005
NAME:
ann.robinson@cox.net

QUERY:  Searching for a tie to Jesse Wood, lived in Fluvanna in 1840, age 86.  Am hoping records would link to family in Amherst County.

Think he might have migrated from Amherst.  Prior to 1766, there were Henry Wood and Val Wood of Goochland - who went to Amherst.  Jesse is listed as serving in Rev War from Amherst.  The pension list for Rev. Military Service states that a Jesse Wood lived in Fluvanna.

I am hoping family ties, in Fluvanna, brought him back and there might be a will or death record.

NAME:
pvisser@comcast.net

QUERY:  I am looking for information on:  Benjamin Ship died in Fluvanna County ca 1814 when an administrator's bond was issued. His inventory was recorded in 1815 in WB 2, p. 174. An Albert T. Shipp died testate in Fluvanna in 1863 (WB 9:299).

SURNAME:  Ship, Shipp, Hire,Hyer,Heier
DATE: 15 February 2005
NAME:  pvisser@comcast.net

QUERY: I'm trying to find about BENJAMIN SHiPP and his wife. He was born in VA the son of UNKNOWN PARENTS.  He married about 1829, PEGGY HIRE/HYER/HEIER.  She was born in VA, the daughter of UNKNOWN PARENTS.

Notes: It is quite probably Benjamin Shipp died abt 1840 and the Margaret Shipp listed below in the 1840 census of Fluvanna County, VA is indeed our Margaret “Peggy” (Hire) Shipp.

Name: Shipp, Margaret Home in 1840: Unknown Townships, Fluvanna, VA County: Fluvanna State: Virginia Year: 1840 Roll: M704_558 Page: 262 Image: 240

[Review of the digital image shows

males              1    under 5

                        1     5 - 10

females            1     under 5

                        1    5 -10

                        1    20 -30

Analysis - ages of oldest female and children's ages would support a marriage of no more than 11 years, ca 1829.  Comparison of the ages of the two younger females would work with the Margaret Shipp on the 1850 Fluvanna Census.  The males would also work, with the one of correct age at home, and Benjamin also matching in age, who was then in Ohio.  Of course this is not proof but is important in that with these names from the 1850 census, they should be followed.

Child of BENJAMIN SHiPP and PEGGY HIRE/HYER/HEIER is: BENJAMIN FRANKLIN2 SHIPP/SHEPP, b. June 08, 1834, Fluvanna Co., VA; d. April 18, 1923, Muncie, Delaware Co., IN.

SURNAME:  Hawkins
DATE: 6 February 2005
NAME:  Mnmjmorgan@aol.com

QUERY:  Searching for a burial place in Fluvanna County for Martin V.B. Hawkins who died in the Confederate Soldiers Home in Richmond on July 14, 1912 and was returned to Palmyra for burial.

SURNAME:  Ford, England
DATE: 4 January 2005
NAME:  OkiegrlGG@aol.com

QUERY:  My 3rd great-grandfather JOHN FORD SR. was born in Albermarle County VA. in Dec. 1762 (taken from his father's Bible) and he married ELIZABETH ENGLAND in 1785. On his Rev. Pension from VA. it states he lived in Fluvanna County for 16 years plus after the war before moving to E.TN. in 1801/03.

Since my 2nd great-grandfather is his son, I have an obituary on one of this greats sons, one ROBINSON/ROBERSON FORD, b. in 1835 and dying in 1914 and it states that the family came from Richmond. Since Richmond is somewhat further East of Fluvanna, my thinking is they were listing him as being from Richmond since it was a larger city than say, Charlottesville or Palmyra when Robinson was born in 1835. Any suggestions on this "little discrepancy" as to where the family is from?
