Otto Bailey

Funeral services for Otto Bailey, 80, of Van Vleck, will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999 at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck. Visitation will be Saturday until 9 p. m. in Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel and from 1:30 until 2 p. m. Sunday at the church.

Bailey was born in Van Vleck Sept. 7, 1918 to Jim Franklin and Everlina Chambers and died Jan. 5, 1999 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church where he served faithfully as an usher and proved to be a good follower. He also was a World War II veteran.

Bailey is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Betsy A. Revis, Leonteen Alexander (and Pierce) of Old Ocean, and Bonnie Jean Rhodes of Houston; a devoted niece and caretaker, Ruby Burnett; and a host of other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Catherine Davis, Erma Lee Bess, and Ethola Rhodes; and brother, Johnny Phillips, Jr.

Pallbearers will be John Alliniece, Jr., J. C. Ashton, Sr., Jonas Brinkley, Sr., Jonas Brinkley, Earnest Pettit, Jr., Isham Southall, and Allen King.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pierce Alexander, Bailey’s nephews, and St. John Baptist Church Usher Board.

Everett Charles Banks

Final disposition and burial for Everett Charles Banks, 75, of Van Vleck, will be at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck at a later date. According to family wishes, cremation was held.

He was born in Kingfisher, Okla. on Friday, July 11, 1924, to William Banks and Mary Tyler Banks, and passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Seabreeze Health Care Center in Bay City.

Survivors include: a son, Nolan Banks of Waukegan, Ill.; his inlaws; and many friends including Rev. Ruben Newell and the St. John Baptist Church family in Van Vleck.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Nina Mearle Banks

Funeral services for Mrs. Nina Mearle Banks, age 58 of Van Vleck, will be held Monday, March 24, 1997, at 1:30 p. m., at the St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Sunday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p. m. at the church.

She was born in Bay City, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1938, to Sebron Bryant, Sr. and Estella Wallace Bryant, and passed away Thursday, March 20, 1997, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

Mrs. Banks was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, where she served faithfully and proved to be a good follower. There, she was active with the Mission Auxiliary as well as the youth for many years. She also was President of the Usher Department, and Sunday School Teacher of the Women’s Bible Class. Her fraternal affiliations included memberships with the Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho, Scarlet Cord Court #45.

Survivors include her husband Charles E. Banks of Van Vleck, and two daughters Ms. Amey Singletary of Kingsville, and Mrs. Lucille Jackson of Oklahoma. Also three sons and two daughters-in-law Johnny Singletary (& Laurie) of Bay City, Tommy Singletary of Van Vleck and Nolan Singletary (& wife) of Illinois.

Also one sister and brother-in-law Mrs. Delores Moore (& Will) of Houston, and four brothers and three sisters-in-law Willie Bryant, Sr., Sebron Bryant, Jr. (& Menchie), Jerry Bryant, Sr. (& Isabell), all of Bay City, and Samuel Bryant (& Dorothy) of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She leaves two god-children Teresa Allen-Ford and Elonza James, a nephew she reared, Lugene Bryant (& Mabel), her mother-in-law, Mrs. Althea Franklin, a brother-in-law, Rev. Nathaniel Lemons; as well as a host of great and great-great-grandchildren. Also a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, a family of cousins, other relatives and many friends which include Mrs. Willie Pearl James of Bay City.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Melvia Williams and Lucinda Lemons.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Donald Brown, Dewayne Abbott, Freddie Allen, Jr., Kelly Smith, Coleman Abbott, Hollis Lemons, Sebron Bryant, III, Michael Bryant, Reginald Williams, Jerry Bryant, Jr., Willie Bryant, Jr.  and Anthony Bryant.

Honorary pallbearers will include Willie Bryant, Sr., Sebron Bryant, Jr., Jerry Bryant, Sr., Samuel Bryant, Will Moore and Lugene Bryant.

Darlene Sodia Bennett

Funeral services for Darlene Sodia Bennett, 52, of Clute, Texas will be Saturday, December 6, 2003, at noon at the Cathedral of Joy Worship Center, 125 N. Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson with Apostle Harold Higgins officiating.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

She died Saturday, November 28, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She was a member of Cathedral of Joy Worship Center.

She is survived by four sons, De'Ondre C. Nelson, Brushawn C. Lewis, Keith A. Lewis and Torey D. Lewis, all of Clute; three brothers, Matthew Mouton (Annette) of Brazoria, Victor Sodia, Jay Sodia of Wharton; two sisters, Cher Caldwell of Stafford, Diane Fields of Houston; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Warren Bryant, the Reverend Jessie Times, John Edwards, Elroy Griggs, Buster Sidney and Bervick Solomon.

Honorary pallbearers will be De’Ondre C. Nelson, Brushawn C. Lewis, Darrell Fields Jr., Andre Mouton, Matthew Mouton, Jermaine Mouton, Jay Sodia, Keith Lewis, Torey Lewis, Derrick Fields, Willie Wylie, J. D. Green and Victor Sodia.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p. m. Friday, December 5, 2003, at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel and from 11 a. m. to noon at the church on Saturday, December 6, 2003, only. There will be no viewing afterward.

Wake will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. Friday, December 5, 2003, at the funeral chapel.

Funeral services for Dorothy M. Blackmon, 75, of Van Vleck, Texas will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at New Fellowship Tabernacle Church, 600 Matthew Street, Bay City, Texas.

Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 2 pm. until 8 p.m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City, Texas.

She was born in Matagorda County, Texas on September 12, 1943 to Frank James Sr. and Pinkie Henry James. She passed away October 10, 2018 in Van Vleck, Texas.

Among her many survivors include three daughters, Pinkie L. Blackmon, Lisa R. Blackmon and Teresa R. Blackmon; four sons, Alfred Blackmon Jr. (Theresa), Terry M. Blackmon, Robert J. Blackmon (Gayle), and William Blackmon (Danielle); and a host of many other relatives and friends.

She was born in Van Vleck, Monday, Jan. 11, 1904, to Daniel Monroe and Jane Odom Monroe, and passed away Monday, October 16, 2000, at Palacios Healthcare Center in Palacios.

Survivors include: two sons, Daniel Mayberry and Clarys of Fort Worth, and Howard Roberson of Palacios; one grandson, Clyde Mayberry; two step-grandchildren, Joyce Harris and Donald Sanford; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Elsie Simon of Liberty; a host of nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
