Elnora Thompson Polk

 

LAKE JACKSON - Funeral services for Elnora Thompson Polk, 61, of Lake Jackson will be Saturday, July 25, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Texas with Rev. Ruben Newell, officiating.

 

Burial will follow immediately after services at St. John Cemetery.

 

She is survived by her husband, Charles Polk; three daughters, Daphne Polk-Garfield (Roberto), Angela Green (Michael), and Tabitha Polk; six grandchildren, Jaquis, Kenric, Alexia, Sharrell, Raymond, and Trenton; one great-grandchild, Arianna; two sisters, Dorothy Hall (Kenneth) and Yvonne Baines (Albert); two brothers, Julius Thompson and Samuel Johnson, Jr. and host of other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be held in the chapel of Greens Mortuary on Friday, July 24, 2015.

 

Final arrangements are entrusted with Green's Mortuary at 979-245-3489.

Bonnie Faye Porter

Funeral services for Bonnie Faye Porter, 54, of Van Vleck, will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at St John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev. James David officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Van Vleck,

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Green’s Mortuary and Saturday from 1 p. m. to 2 p. m. at St. John Baptist Church.

Mrs. Porter was born June 29, 1934, in Cedar Lane to C. L. Singletary and Althea Hayes and died Sept. 12 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

She was a member of the Sixth Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Rogers Porter of Houston; her mother, Althea Franklin of Van Vleck; a stepson, Joseph Porter of Houston; a god-daughter, Deidre Coulter of Markham; three sisters, Willie Lee Brown and Amey Coulter, both of Van Vleck, and Eunice Hanks of Houston; four brothers, Jeremiach Hanks, R. P. Hanks, Joseph Hanks, all of Houston, and Cornelius Singletary; three aunts, Addie McNeal of Bay City, and Nancy George and Bertha Hanks, both of Sweeny; and two great-aunts, Mamie L. Jackson of Van Vleck and Grace Banks of Bay City.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Ashton Jr., Gary Ashton, R. A. Wiley, Horace Davis, Charles Ryan and Greg Organ.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cornelius Singletary, Clarence Brown, Jr., Joseph Porter, Donald Brown, Clarence Brown Sr., Freddie Allen Jr., Johnnie Singletary, Tommy Singletary and Rogers Porter.

Arrangements are with Green’s Mortuary, Bay City.

Gloria Rivers Preston

Funeral services for Gloria Rivers Preston 50, of Houston were held at 1 p. m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at Greater Hope Baptist Church in Houston, Rev. Mose A. Jones officiating. Burial followed in St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Preston was born July 5, 1948 in Bay City to Charlie Rivers and Jewel Harris Rivers. She died Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston. She was a member of Greater Hope Baptist Church, where she kept her faith and hope in Christ .She was employed as a clerk with the Attorney General’s Office.

Preston is survived by her daughter, Shawn Jackson of Houston; son, Artis Preston, Jr. of Houston; mother, Jewel Hubert of Houston; father, Charlie Rivers of Bay City; brother, Wayne Rivers of Bay City; two grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives, and a family of friends.

Active and honorary pallbearers were her family members and friends. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts.
