Helen Darnell Earls

Miss Helen Darnell Earls, 23, of Bay City, died in Killeen April 15. Survivors include: daughters, Twila LaShell and Tarikza Sekiteran Frierson of Bay City; mother, Mrs. Helen G. Frierson of Freeport; father, Billie Earls of Houston; brothers, Victor, Larry and Gary Earls of Houston; sisters, Nolia and Billie Jean of Houston; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Carrie Chester of Bay City, J. B. Frierson of West Columbia; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Earls of Bay City; aunt, Brenda Chester of Houston; uncles, Kirk Revis of Cleburne, Felix Earls, of Bay City and Horace Earls of Corpus Christi. The funeral will be held at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck Saturday, April 19 at 2 p. m. The Rev. A. H. Pointer will officiate and interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Marvin Sanford, Jr., Don Stone, Tyderrall Copeland, John Henry O’Neal, Willie Boone, Jr. and Matt Earl Williams. Arrangements made with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Eunice Lee “Butch” Ellis

Funeral services for Eunice Lee “Butch” Ellis, 44, will be held 2 p. m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City. There will be a wake from 7 – 9 p. m.

Mr. Ellis was born Feb. 21, 1948 in Bay City to U. L. and Evelyn Jones Ellis and died May 2, 1992 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was affiliated with the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Val Ellis of Van Vleck; a stepson, Lance Sanders; a son, Willie Ellis; four sisters, Mamie Phillips of Sweeny, Wyonnia Stubblefield of Van Vleck, Levera Bonner of Sweeny and Sandra Gail Williams of Iago; three brothers, Jerry Ellis and Paul Ellis of Van Vleck and Donald Wayne Ellis of Houston; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Jerry Leonard Ellis

VAN VLECK - Jerry Leonard Ellis, 50, of Van Vleck, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.

He was born March 24, 1955, in Van Vleck, to U.L. and Evelyn Jones Ellis.

Survivors: sisters, Mamie Willer, Wynonnia Sutbblefield, Levera Bonner and Sandra Williams; and brother, Paul Ellis.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church, the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating.

BAY CITY - Funeral services for Leroy Ellis, 82, of Bay City will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Jesus Freewill Holy Temple, 2420 Ave. C., with Bishop Michael Hurst, pastor, and Dr. M.A. Southall eulogizing. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

He passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

He is survived by his six children, Margaret "Peaches" Grant of Austin, Rita Cunningham (Fulton) of Houston, Samuel Ellis (Roberta) of Bay City, James Ellis (Marilyn) of Houston, Deborah Lewis (Melvin) of Austin, and Lisa Harris of Lake Jackson; three sisters, Dorothy Allen of Houston, Ruby Southall (Frank) of Van Vleck, and Idell Mildred Ellis of Austin; three aunts, Rose Cook, Wilma Johnson and Myrtle Swist; honored family member, Charles Miller; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Green's Mortuary. There will be no viewing afterwards.

Linda S. Ellis

Bay City—Linda Susan Ellis “Susie,” 52, of Bay City died Monday, May 20, 2002.

She was born Sept. 14, 1949, in Bay City, to Leroy Ellis of Bay City and the late Margaret Ellis. She was a Baptist.

Survivors: sisters, Margaret Grant, Maria Cunningham, Deborah Lewis and Lisa Harris; brothers, Samuel Ellis and James Ellis; one grandchild; and father.

Preceded in death by: daughter, Terry Ehimuh; and mother.

Visitation will be 3-8 p. m. today at Green’s Mortuary and 10-11 a. m. Saturday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a. m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating.

Lora Ann Ellis

Funeral services for Lora Ann Ellis, 37, of Sweeny will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Ruben Newell, pastor, and Supt. R. L. Hammonds, III officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and from 10 – 11 a. m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at the church.

Ellis died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 at Sweeny Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 1, 1961 to Audrey Marie Ellis and Thomas Wyche. She graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1981.

Survivors include: two children, Walteshia Lorrain Ellis and Walter LaRon Ellis of Sweeny; granddaughter, Sha’tajia La’kel Hawkins of Sweeny; father, Thomas Wyche and step-mother, Mary Wyche both of Houston, grandparents, Winnie Thompson of Houston and Jessie Mae Wyche of Live Oak; two sisters, Florida Drake and Tonya Wyche of Houston; six brothers, Lester Ellis, Bobby Jones, Thomas Wyche, Jr., Arnold Wyche, Anthony Wyche and Ashley Brown all of Houston; special aunt, Lee Vella Johnson of Van Vleck; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Margaret Ellis

Funeral services for Margaret Ellis, 60, of Bay City, will be held 10 a. m. Saturday at Church of God in Prophecy with the Rev. John Kroon officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck. The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p. m. today.

Mrs. Ellis was born in Van Vleck to Allen and Annie Mae Bythewood Lopez and she died March 14, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Church of God in Prophecy.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy Ellis; five daughters, and four sons-in-law, Margaret and Boston Grant, Maria and Fulton Cunningham, Deborah and the Rev. Willie Sauls, Lisa and Collie Jones and Linda Ellis; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Samuel and Roberta Ellis and James and Marilyn Ellis; one sister, Doris Lewis; four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Aaron Allen, Ruby and Frank Southall, Vera and Earnest Wright and Mildred and Booker Gilbert; two brothers, and sisters-in-law, Minnie and Barbara Ellis and Otis and Georgia Ellis; ten grandchildren, Reginald, Reginald Grant, Michell Grant, Lisa Grant, Charles Rivers, Maria Cunningham, Kara Ellis, Letina Ellis, Detra Cunningham, Milisa Johnson and Denisha Ellis; two great-grandchildren, Brittaney Ray and Darryl Hamilton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Orelia Ellis

Funeral services for Orelia Ellis, 75, of Van Vleck will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Van Vleck.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Wednesday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Ellis was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Matagorda County to Roland and Hattie Scott Rugeley and died Dec. 28, 1985, at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Allen and Mildred Gilbert of Houston, Ruby Southall of Van Vleck and Vera Wright of Brazoria; four sons, U. L. Ellis of Van Vleck, Leroy Ellis and Minnie Ellis of Bay City and Otis Ellis Sr. of Dallas; three sisters, Rosie Cook of Dickinson, Lillie Mae Redd of Bay City and Wilma Johnson of Van Vleck; a brother, Lee Rugeley of Galveston; 40 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives.

Pallbearers include Otis Ellis Jr., Curtis Ellis, Samuel Ellis, Eunice Ellis, Frank Southall Jr., Kerry Wright and Anthony Allen.
