Wiley, Alonzo, Sr., 74, passed away in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston on March 23. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, March 29 at St. Johns Baptist Church in Van Vleck. The Rev. O. L. Reynolds will be officiating. Mr. Wiley, originally of Van Vleck, had been a resident of Texas City. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tennessee Wiley; 5 daughters, Miss Mary Wiley of Houston, Mrs. Lurlene Merchant, Mrs. Carrie Horton, Miss Eva Wiley and Miss Millie Wiley all of Texas City; 4 sons, Alonzo Wiley of Houston, Curtis Wiley of San Francisco, California, Eddie Wiley and William Wiley both of Texas City; 3 sisters, Mrs. Alberta Murray of Van Vleck, Mrs. Delphene Wiley of Bay City, and Mrs. Rosie Bell Moore of Houston; 3 brothers, Charlie Wiley and Gerald Wiley both of Van Vleck and Sam Wiley of Richmond. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Van Vleck with Duncan funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Delphine Wiley

Funeral services for Delphine Wiley, 89, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Ms. Wiley was born March 5, 1903 in Van Vleck to the late Tobe and Mandy Wilkerson Wiley and she died Dec. 8, 1992 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, R. S. and Marjorie Harris of Bay City; two granddaughters, Loreen Harris of Los Angeles, Calif. and Ethel Thomas of Houston; a grandson, Robert S. Harris Jr. of Bay City; a great-grandchild; five great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tobey Wiley and Amanda Wilkerson Wiley; her sisters and brothers and a grandson, James Ervin Harris.

Pallbearers will be Desmond Thomas, Murphy Criss, Alex Stone, Marvin Thomas Jr., Marvin Harris and Hewitt Wiggins. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Bible bands and mission societies in the area.

Felix Lee “Joe” Wiley

Funeral services for Felix Lee “Joe” Wiley, age 54, of Bay City, will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, August 20, 1999 at St. John’s Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Van Vleck.

He died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999 in Bay City. He was born in Van Vleck, Texas on Tuesday, June 26, 1945 to Nelson Wiley and Irene Moore Wiley.

His upbringing included public education at O. H. Herman High School in Van Vleck, as well as membership with the Church of God of Prophecy in Van Vleck where he learned under the leadership of Pastor Elzie Curry.

He was described as a friendly person who will be missed in his demise.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Irene Moore Henderson (& Raymond) of Houston; step-mother Susie Wiley of Van Vleck; sisters and brothers-in-law Ozell Crockett (and Edward) of Bay City, Dorothy Wiley Evert of Washington, Alice Martin, Leverne Cherris and Glenda Briggs (& Kerry), all of Houston; brothers, Nelson Wiley, Jr., Frank Wiley and Larry Wiley, all of Van Vleck; step-children Eretta Brown and Charles Johnson of Houston, and Darryl Johnson of Brazoria; aunts Pauline Bradford and Luvenia Sorrell of Bay City, Annie Lou Moore of Cedar Lane; uncles Willie Wiley (and Bernice) of Danciger, Felix Wiley (and Elizabeth) of Port Lavaca, Lawrence Moore, Sr. (and Mary) and Percy Moore, Sr. (and Mattie), all of Bay City; special cousins Shirley Allen and Willie Wiley, Jr. of Bay City and special friends Tommie and Nona McKinney, and Viola Johnson, all of Bay City; and many other relatives and friends who loved him as “Joe.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Wiley, Sr.; brother Russell Wiley; grandparents Jeff and Lillie Wiley and Bennie and Ethel Moore; aunts, Jessie Stroman, Cozie Workman, Martha Moore, Jessie Mae Times and Elleanor Woodard; uncles McKinley Wiley, Charlie Wiley, Eugene Wiley, Cunnie Moore, Sr., Freddie Moore and Leon Moore.

Serving as active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will include Willie Wiley, Sr., Willie Wiley, Jr., Felix Wiley, Lawrence Moore, Sr., and Percy Moore, Sr.

Funeral services for Floyd Wiley, 69, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 11 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev. Ruben Newell, pastor, and the Rev. Curtis Wiley, Sr., eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

He was born in Van Vleck, Texas, October 18, 1936, to Charlie Wiley and Addie Hayes Wiley, and passed away June 9, 2006, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: two brothers, R.A. Wiley and Dorothy, and Charlie Wiley, Jr. and Lee Ella, and a very devoted sister-in-law, Wanda Flagg Davis, all of Bay City. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Recie Wiley, Jr., Terry Wiley, Sr., Kerwin Wiley, Dante' Wiley, Stanley Wiley, Bobby Flagg, Floyd Williams, Curtis Austin and Freddie Allen, Jr.

Funeral services for Nelson Wiley, Sr., age 70, of Bay City, will be held Tuesday, December 19, 1995, at 11:00 a. m., at Jesus Free Will Holy Temple church in Bay City, with Rev. T. L. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Monday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Tuesday from 10 till 11 a. m. at the church.

Mr. Wiley was born in Van Vleck to Jeff Wiley and Lillie Wiggins Wiley, Friday, April 2, 1925, and died Thursday, December 14, 1995 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lydia Wiley of Bay City; two daughters, Mrs. Ozell Crockett of (& Edward) of Bay City, and Ms. Dorothy Wiley of Seattle, Washington; and 5 sons, Felix Joe Wiley of Bay City, Nelson Wiley, Jr., Russell Wiley, Frank Wiley and Larry Wiley, all of Van Vleck.

Also 8 step-children, Robert Barefield, Mrs. Josephine Franklin, Mrs. Edith Bland, Leo Barefield, Sr., Mrs. Bobbie Franklin, Donald Barefield, Mrs. Jayne Arkadie and Mrs. Terry Furlow.

He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Bradford of Bay City and Mrs. Cozie Workman of Hearn, and two brothers, Felix Wiley of Port Lavaca, and Willie Wiley, Sr. of Sweeny. Also 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Wiley and Lillie B. Wiley, one sister, Mrs. Jessie Elnora Stroman, and three brothers, McKinley Wiley, Charlie Wiley and Eugene Wiley.

Active pallbearers will include John D. Fisher, Edward Crockett, Jr., William Franklin, Steve Franklin, Arthur Dykes and Hubert Durgan.

Recie “R.A.” Wiley Sr.

Celebration of life for Recie Allen Wiley, Sr., age 88, of Bay City will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3300 Ave F, Bay City, Texas 77414. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery ~ Van Vleck.

Public visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Recie Allen Wiley, Sr. was born on November 11, 1934.  He gave his life to Christ at an early age while attending St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, TX.  He later made Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church his church home under the Rev. J. Weldon Gilbert.

He shared 62 matrimonial years with his wife, Dorothy Wiley, before her passing. He enjoyed his sports, “shoot-em’ ups” (Westerns), and playing dominoes with his boys.  His best days were spent being surrounded by and loving on his children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, sharing his wisdom and love.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wiley; parents, Addie McNeil and Charlie Wiley; brothers, Horace Davis and Floyd Wiley; sister, Grace; sons, Terry Wiley, Sr. and Kerwin Wiley Sr.; daughter, Sandra Moore; and grandchildren, Paris Jammer, David Jammer, Jr., Devin Jammer, and Dekenric Daniel Wiley.

He left to cherish his memories, his brother, Charlie Wiley of Bay City; his children, Robert Green (Regina) of Sweeny, Curtis Wiley, Sr. (Nichole) of Pearland; Recie Wiley, Sr. (Jackie) of Fresno, Yvette Jammer (Chris) of Sweeny, Stanley Wiley Sr. (Adrienne) of Bay City and Dante Wiley (Robin) of Angleton; Adopted sons, Charles Rowland Jones of Dallas, Douglas Smith and James (Charlie) Robinson, both of Bay City; special niece, Janice Watkins (Marc, Sr.) of Houston; special cousin, Teresa Ford (Bernard) of Manvel; special friends, Shane Lewis of Bay City and James Southall of Van Vleck, 27 grandchildren, 16  great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Russell Wylie, age 27, of Van Vleck, will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at 11 a. m., at the St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Wiley was born in Bay City, Texas, Monday, Nov. 24, 1969, to Nelson Wiley, Sr. and Susie James Wiley, and passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 1996, in Sweeny, Texas, as a result of an automobile accident.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Susie James Wiley of Van Vleck, and a step-mother, Mrs. Lydia Wiley of Bay City. Also two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ms. Dorothy A. Wiley and Mrs. Ozell Crockett (& Edward), all of Bay City, and four brothers, Felix Joe Wiley of Bay City, Nelson Wiley, Jr., Frank Wiley and Larry Wiley, all of Bay City. Also his grandmother, Mrs. Larnie James of Van Vleck.

He also leaves five aunts, Mrs. Dorothy Blackmon, Mrs. Dora Jones, Mrs. Alice Moore, Mrs. Pauline Bradford and Mrs. Cozie Workman; and six uncles, George James, Arthur James, Frank James, Jerry James, Willie Wiley and Felix Wiley. Also two great-aunts, Mrs. Ethel Willis and Mrs. Dora Topica, and three great-uncles, A. C. Henry, Howard Henry and Claudia Young.

Other survivors include a special friend, Keisha Dean, five nieces, Yolanda Hill, Clarisa Wiley, LaWanda Hines, Vivian Robinson and Terry Denis; and four nephews, Nelson Wiley, III, Christopher Wiley, James Wiley and Kipsy Wiley. Also a host of cousins, other relatives and a family of many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Wiley, Sr. Dec. 14, 1995.

She was born in Cedar Lane, Texas on February 26, 1936 to Frank James Sr. and Pinkie Henry James, and passed away March 8, 2018 in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include two sons, Nelson Wiley Jr. and Larry Darnell Wiley; two daughters, Dorothy A. Wiley and Ozell Crockett; two brothers, Frank James Jr. and Arthur James Sr. (Ernestine); four sisters, Dorothy Blackmon, Dora Jones, Alice Moore and Alice Wilcox; and a host of grands and great-grands, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
