Mamie Lou Jackson

Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Lou Jackson, age 87, of Van Vleck, will be held Saturday, August 24, 1996, at 11 a. m. at the St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 10 to 11 a. m. at the church.

She was born in Matagorda County, Texas, Monday, Nov. 23, 1908, to Isaac Shepherd and Louvenia Mills Shepherd, and passed away Sunday, August 18, 1996, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Ashton (& J. C.) of Van Vleck, and one son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Harold S. Williams (& Veree), also of Van Vleck. Also three daughters and two sons she reared, Mrs. Carol Farris (& John), and Mrs. Louise Grice, all of West Columbia, Mrs. Marilyn Sanford of Van Vleck, Dewitt Alliniece (& Jeanette) of Bay City and John Alliniece, Jr. (& Johnnie Mae) of Van Vleck.

She leaves one step-son, Willie Jackson of Houston, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Also one niece, Mrs. Althea Franklin of Van Vleck, a cousin, Mrs. Ethel Jones of Bay City, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Selkirk Williams, her second husband, Ellis Jackson, two daughters, Elouise Gipson and Lizzie Lee Williams, a nephew, her sisters and brothers.

Active pallbearers will include C. H. Singletary, Horace Davis, Floyd Davis, R. A. Wiley, Clarence Brown, Jr., Isham Southall, Elmo Dunley and John Farris.

Honorary pallbearers will include the Rev. James Ashton, Jr., Gary Ashton, Sr., Marvin Ashton, Andre Roberson, Christopher Brown, Mike Alliniece, Rodney Ashton, Gary Ashton, Jr., John Farris, Jr., Tyree Franklin, Timothy Brown, Charles Woodard, Sr., Patrick Woodard, Jeremy Sanford, Kevin Grice and deacons of St. John Baptist Church.

BAY CITY - Rosie Lee James, 72, of Bay City, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. She was born July 11, 1940.

Funeral services for Erma Lee Johnson, 71, of Freeport, will be Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at 11 a. m. at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with the Rev. R. Newell officiating.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Van Vleck.

She died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at UTMB Galveston.

She is survived by sons, Samuel Johnson, Jr. and Cherlaina from Lake Jackson and Julius Thompson of Freeport; three daughters, Elnora Polk and Charles, Dorothy Hall and Kenneth, of Lake Jackson, and Yvonne Bains and Albert of Key West, Florida; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Javlin Jackson, Joe Bonner, Rance Johnson, Jr., Broderick James, Don Sandford, Don Johnson, Earl Heard and Mikael Taylor.

Funeral services for Lee Vellar Jones Johnson, 70, of Van Vleck, will be Saturday, February 15, 2003, at 2 p.m., at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, with the Rev. Ruben Newell, eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

She was born in Needville, Texas, Monday, September 5, 1932, to Cleveland Jones and Jerline Riggs Jones, and passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: son, Kennith Jones of Houston, one sister, Florida Ray King, and one brother, Rev. Willis Jones (& Willine), all of Houston; also four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Nellie Johnson

Funeral services for Nellie Johnson, 88, of Van Vleck will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev .Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will be in St John’s Cemetery, Van Vleck.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 4, 1898, in Van Vleck to David and Anna Chambers and died Sept. 22, 1986, at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include three daughters, Gussie Grant of San Antonio, Luberta Ashton of Victoria and Ada Johnson of Van Vleck; two sons, Eugene Walker of Bay City and Ed Johnson Jr. of Victoria; a foster son, Lun Brinkley of Van Vleck; four grandsons, 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Willie Franklin Jr., Lonnie Aykes, July Franklin, Charles Revis, J. C. Ashton and John L. Brinkley Sr.

Olia J. Johnson

Services for Olia J. Johnson, 73, of Van Vleck, will be Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 at 2 p. m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Ruben Newell officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

He died Sunday, Nov. 24, 1996 at Beechnut Manor Progressive Care Center in Houston.

He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Van Vleck.

He is survived by: his wife Mrs. Wilma Johnson of Van Vleck; one special daughter Mrs. Cynthia Scott of Fresno, Texas; one daughter of Seattle, Washington; two sons of Seattle, Washington; one son of Beaumont, Texas; one sister Katie Hayes of Fordyce, Arkansas; one special cousin, Mrs. Blanche Lancaster of Pinebluff, Arkansas; one devoted nephew, Ray Smith of Fordyce, Arkansas, and one granddaughter, Cerenthia Le Annie Scott of Fresno, Texas. Also nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of lifetime friends.

Active pallbearers will be James Southall, Frank Southall, Ronald Scott, Benjamin Scott III, Benjamin Scott Jr. and Bryan Scott.

Honorary pallbearers will be lifetime friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 29, 1996 from 1 to 9 p. m. at the Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria.

Richard Johnson, III

Graveside service for infant Richard Johnson, III, age 1 month, of Bay City, will be held Thursday, September 14, at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck, at 11:00 a. m., with Rev. Kevin O. Johnson officiating.

Richard was born Wednesday, August 9, 1995, to Richard Johnson Jr. and Terri Bennett Johnson, in Wharton, Texas, and died Monday, September 11, 1995, at Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include his parents, Richard, Jr. and Terry Johnson of Bay City, and his grandparents, Richard, Sr. and Alice Johnson of Bay City, and Douglas and Billie Broaden of Needville. Also his great-grandparents, Jessie Dykes of Bay City and Bill and Minnie McNeal of Needville.

He also leaves one aunt, Kista Johnson of Bay City, and five uncles, Reginald Johnson and Ricky Johnson of Bay City, Robert Bennett, Douglas Bennett, Jr. and Thomas Bennett, all of Needville; one special first cousin, Amber LaVonne DeWalt, and a number of great aunts and uncles, and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by one sister, infant TaVelle LaDon Johnson, October 21, 1994.

Samuel Johnson

Funeral services for Samuel Johnson, 60, of Bay City will be held 3 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Kenneth Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Visiting hours will be held from noon to 9 p. m. today at the chapel of Green’s Mortuary, and a wake is scheduled from 7 to 9 p. m. tonight at the chapel.

Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 23, 1930, in West Columbia and died June 24, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Lee Johnson of Bay City; a son, Samuel Johnson Jr. of Bay City; two stepsons, Julius Thompson of Bay City and Wilbur Thompson Jr. of Houston; three step-daughters, Yvonne Bain of Key West, Fla., and Elnora Polk and Dorothy Gay Hall of Lake Jackson; two sisters, Maxine Davis of West Columbia and Arthur Mae Dickson of Angleton; a brother, Clyde Johnson of Wichita Falls; 9 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are George Allen, Kenneth Hall, Romade Green, Rance Johnson, Eric Davis and Robert O’Neil Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are Samuel Johnson Jr., Wilbur Thompson Jr., Julius Thompson, Charles Johnson, Lorenzo Johnson, Robert Dickson, Charles Polk and Clyde Johnson.

Funeral services for Grover Cleveland Jones, 65, of Houston, will be held 2 p. m. Tuesday at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck with the Rev. B. Hugh McGruder officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Van Vleck. Visitation is until 5 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City at 7 to 8:30 p. m. at the Church of God of Prophecy, 4610 Sunflower in Houston.

Mr. Jones was born Nov. 1, 1926 to the late Cleveland and Jerline Riggs Jones in Matagorda County. He died June 11, 1992 at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Princella King Jones of Houston; four daughters, Shirley Harris of Wichita Falls, Jerline Jones and Wanda Lucas of Houston and Linda Louise of Bel Air, Md.; three sons, Wayne King of Angleton, Waymon Jones of Missouri City and Prince Earl of Houston; eight grandchildren; two sisters; a brother and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be J. C. Ashton, John L. Brinkley Sr., John McKee, C. H. Singletary, Harry McNeal, Jimmy Smith and Kermit Monroe. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne King, Waymon Jones, Prince Jones, Clarence King Jr., the Rev. Willis R. Jones. Tommie Jones, Kenneth Jones and Ronald W. Ellis.

Mr. Jones was a resident of Houston and a former resident of Van Vleck.

Lawrence Jones

Lawrence Jones, 58, Alvin, died in Ben Taub Hospital in Houston Friday, June 12. He was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Matagorda County. He was widowed. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland C. Jones. Survivors include his three sisters Mrs. Evelyn Fanuiel and Mrs. Lee Vellar Johnson of Van Vleck and Mrs. Ray King of Houston, three brothers, Grover C. Jones and Willis Jones of Houston and Thomas Jones of Van Vleck, two uncles, Sherman C. Jones of Van Vleck and Rudolph Matthews of Galveston, aunts and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Baptist Church. The Funeral will be held from St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck Saturday, June 19, 1976 at 1:30 p. m. with the Rev. R. Fanuiel officiating. Interment will be from St. John’s Cemetery in Van Vleck, Tex. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.
